“Newspaper time again,” shouted Hayley. She had found Abigail, Terry, and Betty on the village green. Lillian and Suzie had gone to visit her mother and brother, Jordan. Sonia couldn’t see her daughter but felt her presence and it always comforted her, so they tried to go at least once a week.
“Where would we be without the Chiltern Weekly? What does it say?” asked Betty.
“It’s on the front page, of course, and they’ve got photos of Cassie and Chris and a mugshot of the late Veronica Stokes. So the world and its wife know she was a fake.”
“She’s no Hayley Moon, that’s for sure.”
“Thanks, Betty. The headline is ‘THE MOTHER AND SON MURDERERS - Cassandra and Christopher Briggs.’ Basically, it says the mother commits murder to save her son, but it was too late and nothing can save him now.
