“I’m here because I accept,” I swallowed my nerves. “I’m saying yes, Onyx.”

He widened his eyes and looked at me like I had grown two heads. I needed him to say something, anything, but he said nothing. He was thinking about his next words, no doubt. I watched as the wheels in his head turned in different directions. He wasn’t the only one that was good at observing people.
