"Mommy... Daddy... Please wake up.Don't leave me." I whimpered as I watched my parents burn to ashes while the flames didn't even touch a single hair on my head. I felt my body shake violently as I sat there sobbing for my parents. I felt the bones in my body break and it hurt so much, I let out a blood shuddering scream and blacked out. When I woke up I saw paws instead of hands. I looked at my jet black fur that reminded so much of my father's.  Then I felt a sudden jolt on my shoulder as someone shook me. I woke up screaming at the top of my lungs. "Shhh... Calm down sweetie it's just a dream." my aunt said, trying desperately to calm me down.  "No I don't think it's a nightmare." I said as I quickly got out of bed and ran towards the sitting room. "what do you mean by it's not? Where are you going?" she asked as she run after me. I got to the sitting room and put my hand under the fire place.  "What are you doing? Do you want to burn yourself?" she asked with a panicked voice.  "I'll heal, don't shifters have healing abilities?"  "Yes they do but... How are you not burning? Why are the flames bending around you?" she asked with a hint of fear.  "Well turns out I can control fire. That's why I didn't burn with my parents that night." "So the dream you had..?"  "It's not a dream. It was a memory. I guess the fact that my birthday is near triggerd it." I said with a little shrug.  "So you can control fire, what more did you find out?" she asked.  "Check this out." I said as I took off my clothes.  "And why are you taking your... Oh goddess,You can shift. How can you shift?" she said as she saw me shifting. My panther was bigger thank hers as I'm the first of my kind. I shifted back and put my clothes on.  "I don't know. It just kinda happened, I guess the grief of losing my parents and daddy's hand over of authority pushed me to it." "What do you mean by handing over of authority?"  "Oh yeah, about that daddy kinda gave me authority of the pack before he died." I said with a shrug again.  "Mathew... Get down here now." she said. I looked at her quizzicaly hoping she'll tell me what was wrong but she didn't.  "Aunt, what's wrong?"  I asked but she ignored me. "What is it honey?" Mathew asked while rubbing the sleep of his eyes. "She has power over the pack. This changes everything. We have to go far away from here." she said and it was pretty clear that she was panicking. I placed my hand on her arm and told her to calm down. That seemed to help and she did.  "What do you mean by she has control? Who has control?" Mathew asked with confusion in his voice.  "Rory, she has control of the pack."  "That's not possible. You have to shift first before you..." he stopped as soon as he saw the looks on our faces. "Oh goddess, you can shift? But how?"  "Before dad died, he gave me authority of the pack. I shifted immediately after he died."  "This changes everything. We have to get out of here. We have to go far away."  They both muttered as they go ready to go and pack. I couldn't let them leave.  I couldn't leave again, not while the person who killed my parents was still out there. I had to save my pack." Quiet both of you. Calm down. We are not going anywhere. "I said.  " We have to, if they find out that you are.. " I cut her of before she could finish.  " I am no going anywhere. I can't leave my pack yet again, neither would I leave my best friend. By the way how is Theo?"  " He's fine, I'm sure he could survive without you. We have to keep you safe, it's not the right time."  "Then when is the right time? I have already shifted and dad has already handed over the alpha position to me." I said.  "But..."  "No buts aunty. I'm tired of running this is my pack and I promised dad I'll take care of it. Who is leading it anyways?"  "Terry, your dad's best friend." Suzi said and at the mention of that name I let out a growl. My eyes started changing color as I was ready to shift.  "What's wrong? Why are you getting like that?" Suzi asked. She was backing away from me. As soon as I saw the panicked look in her eyes I let myself calm down.  "That basterd killed my parents. I can't let him rule this pack. I just can't and this gives me more reason to stay. I have to make him pay even if it's the last thing I do."  "What can we do to help Alpha?" they said in unison. Bowing their heads to show respect. I smiled at that, I knew that with them by my side I can do anything. I just needed one more person and I'll be complete.  Theo' pov I was watching TV in my room when I suddenly felt a sharp stap in my heard. That could only happen when someone was trying to midlink me. I knew that it couldn't be anyone from my pack since they were all sleeping. The pain got more intense so I let my mind blocks down.  "Hey stranger." the voice said.  "Who are you?" I asked in confusion. The voice didn't belong to anyone I knew.  "Ahh... Are you saying you can't recognize your friends voice anymore? I'm hurt." she said.  "Rory? Is that you? I though you were dead." I said with a mix of realif and doubt.  "Of course it's me. You thought wrong my darling. How can I die and leave you behind?" She said. The more we spoke the more I recognized her voice. But I still have to be sure it's her.  "Prove to me that you really are my best friend." I said.  "OK sure. Firstly you know that only alpha kings or queens can mindlink people from other packs." she said.  "True. Tell me something that only I would know."  "What are, twelve? You are still as goofy as ever. OK fine, we promised to  be each other's best friends even after we find our mates. Happy now?"  "Oh goddess it is you."  "That's what I've been trying to tell you, you goofball." she said with a hint of a smile in her voice.  "Yeah you have. How have you been? Where are you? When can I see you again?"  "Easy there panther. One question at a time. I've been OK. I had lost my memory but I'm getting it back day by day. As for when you'll see me again, soon that's all I can say. How have you been?"  "I'm glad that you are OK now. I've been OK, although a bit frustrated that I couldn't find you." "Ncoow that's cute. Well you found me now or rather I found you. By the way did you find her yet? Your mate I mean. Did you find her?"  "No I didn't. Did you?"  "No." I was relived to hear that. I couldn't bear to see her with someone else. We continued talking and cought up on each other's lives. I told her all about running my pack and how I'd been trying to find her ever since I was old enough. She told me all about her life after she lost her memory and how she regaining them day by day, she told me a little bit about her powers but I didn't understand her that much. I made a mental note to look them up all by myself . It was really great getting to talk to her again even if I couldn't see her.  "Ahh.. Theo?"  "Yes princess." "I have to take control of my pack. I need to know that when the time comes I'll have your support and that of your pack."  "You'll always have my support princess. Always."  "Thank you so much Theo. This really means a lot to me."  "Anything for you princess."  "You are the best." she said. I pictured her smile and her toothless grin the one that I used to adore when we were kids.  "But can't you just go and claim your position though? You are the alpha's daughter after all."  "I could but then they might kill me before I reach the pack house."  "Why would they do that?"  "You see, the person who is leading the pack killed my parent and he might ki me he finds out I want to overthrow him."  "Oh my goodness, you mean it was your dad's best friend all along?"  "Yes." she told me more about how her parents died and how she was able to survive which gave me clearity on how she was able to mindlinke. Which meant that Terry had no real control of her pack but if he could make them believe she was a threat he might convince them to kill her. We talked we into the morning. Making plans to meet and how we could overthrow Terry. It was  after six in the morning when we finally said our goodbyes. I was said to but she promised she'll get in contact with me again. I had to trust that she will and I knew that she never breaks her promises. I got ready for the day with a step in my movement. We had decided not to tell anyone that she was still alive, with the exception of my parents of course. In case there was a spy in our pack.  I went downstairs to get my breakfast. I was humming along to a song we sang as kids and didn't even notice my mom when she came into the kitchen. I jumped a little when she cleared her throat but I recovered quickly. " Someone's in a good mood." she said.  "Good morning to you too. It's a good day, isn't it mom?"  "Indeed it is. So?" she looked at me expectedly.  "So?"  "What got you in such a good mood?" "Its nothing. It's just a good day. Oh and I need to speak to you and dad." I said and pecked her cheek before I walked out.  "But..." she called after me but I just waved as I made my way to my office.  By afternoon there was a knock on my door. "Come in." I called out. My dad walked in, followed by mom.  "son."  "Dad. Have a seat please." they both sat down. "Your mom said you have something to tell us?" " he said it as way of a question.  " Yes, I do. "I broke into a huge grin. " What is it then. " they asked impatiently. In the fear that someone might hear us I mindlinked them. " She's alive. " I said through the link. My mom let out a gasp. I didn't have to say much. They knew me well enough to know who I was talking about.  " Are you for real son?" mom asked.  "Yes. I talked to her last night. This morning I mean." I said after I realized it was after midnight when we started talking.  I told them all about how she contacted me. All about her parent's death and everything that she told me. My parents were as surprised as I was to know that it was Terry who killed the king and queen. They were also friends with my parents. They told me that we have their support in everything we may need in order to bring Terry down. They promised to gather all of our allies and those who sided with the late king and queen. That would be easy since not many people liked Terry. Rory was going to need all the help she could get. Of course I made them promise not to tell anyone that Rory was alive. It was not yet time for people to know.  "Of course son. This conversation never happened." dad said as he got up to leave. Mom stayed behind and we talked a little more until she also had to leave. I went back to my work. After not being able to sleep the previous night I was ready for the day to end.
