Unexpected union

Chapter 9

"It's time. " a voice I had become too familiar with said. "Time for what? " I asked. 

"For you to know who you are. " a different voice said. I looked up to see my father looking at me lovingly. "Daddy ." I said. 

"My princess. " he said as he came closer to give me a hug. "What are you talking about? " I asked. 

"Walk with me. " he said as he offered me his hand. I took it without hesitation and got up from the bench. Mom took my other hand  so that I was between them . We walked for a while in a comfortable silence. We reached a clearing in front of a big mansion and stopped. "Where are we? "I asked. 

"Home. " they said in unison . Then turned to walk away. I was about to run after them when the door of the mansion opened. Two kids came out running. It was a boy and girl. They both had jet black hair. The boys eyes were blue while the girl's were green. "Wait for me. " the girl said. The boy then stopped and said, "Hurry up. " she got closer and he took her hand. "Hold on tight. " he said. 

"I won't let go. " she said as they ran towards the forest. I ran after them but I lost them. I looked around for them until I got tired. I sat down under a tree and slept. 

When I woke up I was in a car. I was about to ask where we were when Suzie said, "We can't tell her. Its too early. "

"Yes we can. We can't keep this from her any longer. Her birthday is coming up. She has to know. "

"I don't know. This wasn't supposed to happen. We were supposed to wait till she was eighteen to tell her. "

"We have to. She's going to have questions when she wakes up. "

"We can give her the memory wiping potion like last time." Suzie said. 

"No we are not doing that. It's too dangerous now that she's nearing her shift. We have to tell her. "

"Tell me what? " I asked. 

"Oh. You are awake. "Suzie said. 

"Yeah. Tell me whatever it is you have to tell me. "

"it's nothing sweetie ." she said. "No it's not. What's going on? Where are we going? And whose the man or thing that was following me? " I asked. 

"It's a demon. " Mathew said. I could have laughed if I didn't see the intense look in his eyes or if I didn't see that man's eyes glow. "A what now? I could swear you said demon. " 

"Yes, I said demon." he said. 

"A demon. As in evil spirits from the pit of hell? " I asked. 

"That's one way to put it. "

"OK. And what did you mean by I was nearing my shift? "

"Well..." Mathew said before Suzie cut him off. 

"Honey, it meant that you aren't exactly human. " she said. This time I couldn't help but laugh. "What do you mean I'm not human?" I asked. 

"Exactly what you heard. " she said. 

"Well, you gotta give me more than that. "

"OK. You aren't human because you are a shifter. "

"OK., this is getting a little crazy. Did I by any chance take drugs or maybe I hit my head to hard when I fell." I said while busy shaking my head. 

"No honey, you didn't hit your head and you are definitely not on drugs."

"What you are saying does make sense. What did you say I was again?" 

"A shifter." said Mathew in the driver's seat. 

"As on werewolves? " I asked. 

"Yes. But you aren't a werewolf. " 

"What I'm I then? " 

"We don't know. " she said. "What do you mean by that? How can you not know ?"

"Let's talk about this inside. " I hadn't realized the car had stopped moving until Mathew said that. We got out of the car and walked to the door. The house was some kind of cabin in the woods. " What place is this? " I asked. 

"It's a safe house. We'll be fine here till morning. " he replied. I went straight to the couch and sat down. Suzi came in as sat at the couch opposite from me. She let out a sigh then said ,"Remember the bed time story I used to tell you? "

"The one about the lonely king that was looking for his queen? The same one I once said I dreamt my mom telling it to me ? " I asked .

"Yeah."

"I remember. " I said. 

"Well you are that princess. "

"Wait, what? I thought I heard you say I'm a princess. The princess in my bed time story to be specific. "

"That's what I said. Your dad, my brother was alpha of all alphas. Meaning he was the king. Your mom was leader of the guardians. They met by chance and found out they were mates. It's unheard of for a guardian to mate with a shifter. Many people were happy for them. Some weren't they felt threatened  and when it was discovered that your mother was pregnant it got worse. They were attacks at the pack house. "

"Why were they threatened though?" I asked. 

"Because it was said that you were going to be stronger than than any shifter or guardian that's ever walked the earth. They felt that you were a danger to them. Some saw you as an opportunity to be more powerful. Like the demon king. He wanted your powers to open a portal to the demon world. He wants to take over earth. "

"So he killed my parents ?"

"Yes and no. No one knows how your parents died except for you. "

" How come, I don't know anything. "

"You do. Just that you locked up the events of that day in your head. "

"How do I remember? "

"I don't know." 

"You'll have to give me more than that." 

"I really don't know. Get some rest. We'll talk more tomorrow. "

"OK. Good night. " I didn't have the strength to argue. I was beyond exhausted. I got up from the couch and went to my room.
