Aki 's Point of View
Aki opened his eyes but his vision was hazy. He blinked a good amount of times until he adjusted to the land full of cherry blossom trees. He looked around but he saw no one in sight.
He started to walk slowly, taking in the beautiful scene. The branches of the trees swerved side-to-side gently in the breeze.
Aki stood there and admired the vibrant color of the petals. While Aki walked past the cherry blossom trees, he noticed that each petal looked as lively as the next one with not a single one different from another.
He was amazed by how mesmerizing the scene looked. He went to one of the trees and touched the trunk. Aki imagined the bark to be a little rough before he touched. On the contrary, the bark was surprisingly smoother than what he expected.
“Are these trees prosthetic?” ran through Aki’s mind. However, it looked too realistic to be fake. He did not care whether they were real or fake as the first clear view he would have described was ‘majestic’.
As he deeply inhaled and closed his eyes, he felt a light feather-like brush against his left cheek. Aki opened his eyes to see a petal fall on the ground.
He picked it up and felt the soft touch of the petal. “Yeah, this cannot be fake” thought Aki. As he looked up, he noticed that the petals started to fall.
At first, Aki thought it was a pleasant scene but he noticed that some of the petals had started to wither instantaneously as they fell. The color of the petals quickly turned from baby pink to metallic ash and soon crumbled away as they hit the ground.
It was very weird but he felt like it was a warning to something. Not knowing what to do, he looked at the surrounding cherry blossom trees and saw that every tree was in the same situation. Some petals withered mid-way to ground and crumbled while some withered only after falling on the ground.
He looked at the petal in his hand which had not yet withered. However, it did not feel the same as it first felt. He knew something was wrong but he could not really do anything but watch.
Soon, all the petals fell and had withered. He fell to his knees and felt horrible. Aki felt so helpless and as he watched the last of the petals wither, one thing came to his mind. “If only I had the power to heal, I would bring back that beautiful scenery”.
Aki looked around saw that all the trees were bare and the petals had all withered. His eyes saddened at his surrounding and his gaze fell upon the ground.
He noticed something even odder than what he had just witnessed. A snowflake was falling.
When he looked up at the sky, he noticed that it was snowing now. He thought it was a dream with how weird things were progressing.
No matter how, what was even more unusual was that, when he looked at the ground, a small portion of the petal where it had absorbed the snowflake restored its original color.
The petals that crumbled after withering also reconstructed themselves as if time reversed.
Even if it snowed, Aki did not feel cold and instead, he was warm inside. Soon, all of the petals had their initial color and they flew back to the branches that they had fallen from.
It truly was as if time was reversing or rather, as if the whole scenery was healing.
As he watched the petals attach themselves to the twigs and branches of the cherry blossom trees, he noticed that it stopped snowing.
Aki woke up from his nap and thought, “What a strange dream”. The whole thing was so fresh in his memory.
He stood upright from his bed and turned on the heater to warm himself. As he was rejuvenating himself from the cold air because his blankets had kept him warm until now, he felt a little bit dizzy.
It was similar to nearly fainting when a person stands up very quickly after sitting for so long. However, this dizziness was a bit similar in which, his focus and attention got sucked up by his thoughts.
“Is the memory flashing still not over?” thought Aki and prepared himself. He was right to do so because not too soon after that, a memory flickered into his brain.
