Haru’s Point of View
Haru’s father spoke, “So, repeating visions is what the name suggests. It repeats as in you get the vision every night and not that it is the same one. The most important feature is that a vision holder can get repeating visions only of the destined person he has to save. Only some of the vision holders get repeating visions. It is more common than precaution of the vision. However, as you know your grandfather did not have that. Repeating visions helps in guiding you more than the normal visions. Since it occurs every night, you can decide what you can do. I also had repeating visions. It helped me make my decisions. Did grandfather tell you about how everything is connected to each other?”
Haru nodded.
His father continued, “With repeating visions, the connection is so much better. It helps you to make the decision based on how things are connected. And since you get the visions every night, the whole thing about curse and burden does not get complicated as with normal visions. The clues you get from the vision tonight can be connected with the vision tomorrow.”
Haru nodded again. He waited for his father to continue speaking. He waited for around two minutes but his father still did not start speaking. Haru was confused and lifted his head to look at his father. His father had picked up the newspaper and was reading it. This meant that he has finished what he intended to say. Haru was contemplating whether to ask his father for more information or just quietly leave the room. He did not want to question his father. He had a feeling that it would definitely make him angry.
He decided not to ask and slowly stood up. He went into the kitchen to help his mother. Haru was not satisfied with the amount of information his father had told him. His mother looked at him and walked towards him. She whispered, "What happened, sweetie?"
Haru sighed and sat on the chair in the kitchen. His mother followed behind him and touched his shoulder. Haru turned his head towards the direction his mother was in and looked at him. He could see that she was worried. In order to ease her, he whispered, "Father did not tell me a lot about vision after he said that he wanted to talk about something yesterday." He sighed again.
“Come, let us go out for a walk. I have finished making dinner. Wait for a little for me here, I will go inform your father okay?" His mother spoke. Haru nodded and watched her walk out of the kitchen door. She was back soon after and pulled Haru's arm gently.
Together, they walked out of the back door in the kitchen and out on the lawn. She did not start speaking until they walked out of the gate and into the footpath near the road.
Their arms were linked and his mother squeezed his arm and started speaking, “Sweetie. I know both you and your father like the back of my hands. And I love you both so much. You are bothered that your father does not want to tell you anything more about it. But I know that it is not that your father does not want to tell you everything he knows about it. I told you that he was not like this before right?” Haru nodded.
She continued, “He is not ready to tell you right now. He has gone through plenty of pain himself due to visions. I do not know a lot like your grandfather must have told you, but I do know that it inflicts pain on the vision holder. He has gone through one of the most painful phases in his life. I was beside him but I was helpless. I could not do anything else than watch your father become like this. Give him some time okay? He is trying to do everything he can to make sure you know everything you need to save the person.”
She became silent for a while and Haru was not sure what to tell her. Instead, he wondered whether he had been misunderstanding his father for so long now. They kept walking in silence for few more minutes.
When she finally spoke, his mother looked like she was about to cry and her voice was shaking.
“Your father told me that he did not want to have any children.”
Haru was startled. If he did not want children then why was Haru born?
His mother continued, “We had been married for two years. At that time, we were not trying to have children because we wanted to be settled down and be financially stable. When we were finally settled down, your father told me he did not want any children. He explained that his grandfather had told him about the origin of vision holders and the consequence if they fail. He did not want to burden our child. He told me with tears in his eyes. I was listening to him but I had something to tell him. That day since I was not feeling well, I had gone to the hospital. The doctors had told me that I was pregnant with you. I cried helplessly when I told your father that I was pregnant. I watched as his eyes became sad. Since then, he slowly became guilty. With each passing day, his guilt grew bigger and bigger. However, when you were two years old. The person he had to save appeared. Your father gave all he had so that you would not be burdened with the curse. But he failed. And he lost the ability and it was passed down to you. The more you try your best and you fail, the greater the impact. The guilt that your father’s heart and soul holds because he failed, was bigger than ever. From then, he was not able to stay close to you. He thinks that he does not deserve to be your father. He does not speak of that but I know it. I love your father so much and I know him very well. He does not want you to suffer the way he is right now. This is why I can see that he is trying hard to connect with you. Please give him some time dear. Please."
By now, his mother was sobbing. Haru could not bear his mother’s tears and tears fell from his own eyes. Haru felt sad because he was not aware of this very important event in the past. He really was misunderstanding his relationship with his father.
He hugged his mother and spoke, “I understand mom. Now that you have told me this, I can understand clearly. I have misunderstood things about my father. Thank you, mom, for making it clear. Do not worry about it. I will give him some time and wait. “
He broke away from the hug and looked at his mother. His mother was smiling despite her tears. Haru wiped away her tears.
Suddenly his mother checked the time from her wristwatch.
"Oh my. It's almost time for dinner. Let us go back, dear." She told him. Haru nodded.
It was nearly 7 pm. Haru’s family usually ate dinner early unless some circumstances lead to being late. They walked back into the house through the back door of the kitchen after walking by the gate.
His mother started plating their dinner and Haru went to wash his hands. He then helped his mother bring the dinner plates to the dining table. His father was already sitting there. After getting it ready, Haru and his mother also sat down. They started eating in silence.
It took them around 20 minutes to finish it. Haru helped his mother take the plates into the kitchen and washed them. After he was done, he excused himself and went to his bedroom. He had assignments to complete. He locked the door behind him and sat on the study table. He checked the time, it was 7: 38 pm. He opened his laptop. He also took out the articles that were assigned by the lecturer. He had already printed them on the first day of college by looking at the curriculum. After that, he started typing.
*After an hour and a half*
Haru had nearly completed his assignment when he had to go to the bathroom. He stood up for the chair while remembering to press Ctrl + S in order to save it. He went to the bathroom. After he came back, he completed the assignment.
He closed his laptop and charged it. He reached for his phone and checked the time. It was 9:30 pm. He was exhausted after typing an essay of one thousand words with a logical and evidence-based argument. It was tiring but it was something he was interested in studying.
He stood up from the chair and walked to his bed. He just wanted to scroll through the Social Media applications on his phone until he was sleepy. He got into the blankets and laid his head on the pillow. He scrolled through Pinterest. There, he found a picture directing how to make notes. As soon as he finished skimming the picture, he had an idea.
Just like how his grandfather told him that everything is connected and how his father added to that by saying that Haru can find clues clearer because of repeating visions, Haru wanted to keep track of his clues.
He got out of bed. He walked to the bookshelf that was in his room. He opened the drawer on that shelf and took out a new notebook. He planned to write all the clues that he gets from his visions every night.
