Haru’s Point of View
After he had told Rin the truth, he looked at her. She looked like she was trying to absorb what he told her. Haru was thinking about trying to talk to her about it when he heard a knock at the door. It was not locked so whoever was knocking came in right after knocking. Haru was half expecting a nurse or a doctor but instead, it was Rin's father. He was not expecting him. However, his daughter was in the hospital so it is a given that he should be visiting a lot.
Haru looked at Rin and when she heard him say something, she started to look stressed.
He said, “Rin, how are you feeling?”
Haru wanted to go near her and calm her down but since her father was near, he thought it would not be a good decision. So he waited.
However, Rin did not reply to her father. She remained silent until he spoke again.
But this time, it was not to her. Her father looked at Haru and spoke.
“Haru right? Can you leave us alone for some time?”
Haru thought that this might be a family matter and he was not going to intervene without thinking rationally. So he was about to nod and excuse himself.
However, before he could do that, Rin finally spoke, “Haru, there is no need to go.” Then she looked up to her father and spoke, “Say whatever you want to, he stays right here.”
Haru was stunned. He was not expecting to see this side of Rin. She was always calm and smiling. She sounded frustrated at the moment. Before he could say anything. Her father spoke.
“Rin. He is an outsider. This is a matter of our family and we should not let an outsider be a part of this.”
Haru thought, ”Well, technically he is right. I am an outsider. I think I should just tell her that I will be outside. That is for the better right?”
He was about to tell Rin that when she spoke.
“Oh really? If Haru is an outsider, so is the woman who is behind you.”
Haru was shocked. Rin sounded super furious.
Her father spoke, “What part of ‘he is an outsider’ don’t you understand?” Then while pointing to the woman behind him he continued, “And she is not an outsider. I told you I am marrying her.”
Haru was caught between thinking about telling her that he should be waiting outside and being on her side. In the end, it was her that he wanted to be happy and not her father. So he decided to stay put and quiet.
"Yes, you told me you are marrying her. But you haven't. This means that she is not part of our so called family yet.”
Before he started to say anything, Rin continued.
“So if you want to talk, just talk right now with everyone in the room. If you want Haru to go out, she goes out too.” She said pointing to the woman behind her father.
Her father let out a sigh and then turned around. He said something to the woman and then they left the room.
Rin let out a sigh and then looked at Haru. She spoke, “Sorry Haru for all of this drama. If he comes inside alone, can you go out for a little bit?”
Haru smiled at her and spoke, “Of course I can go. You just have to ask. And don’t worry about the drama. Everything will be alright.” He wanted to comfort her. She looked like she was going to break down any moment. So he did what he thought she should do. He walked over to her and then patted her head.
After he did that, Rin looked up at him and smiled. She said, “Thank you so much Haru. For everything.”
Just then her father came back into the room. He came in alone. So Rin looked at Haru and gestured at him with her head. He nodded after getting the message and then left the room.
He had no idea what they will be talking about and he did not plan on eavesdropping either. He had just left the room when he saw the woman who came in with Rin’s father sitting on the chair. He had no intention to talk to that woman. So he walked straight to the vending machine to get an iced coffee.
