Chapter 10: The beginning of Haru’s determination

Haru’s Point of View

As soon as Haru’s third class got over, he packed his bag and dashed out of the class. He practically sprinted towards the Library. When he got there, he was out of breath because he did not usually sprint. His eyes automatically started searching for Rin after catching his breath. Two minutes passed by and Haru was now worried that she might not come.

He thought to himself, “Was I progressing too fast? Maybe she did not like it and she is ditching me? I hope it is not that.”

“Calm down, it is just two minutes right now. She might be on her way.”

He looked whether there was somewhere to sit. He saw a bench and started walking towards it. He sat down and waited for another three or four minutes. He scrolled through his social media on his phone. His eyes switching to and fro from his phone to see if Rin was here. On about his tenth time, he saw Rin coming.

As soon as he saw her, he could feel his eyes lift and he was comforted that she came. He saw that she noticed where he was and walked towards him.

When she got near him, she said “Hi. I am sorry that I am late. Did you wait long?”

Haru replied, “Hey. It is okay. Don’t worry, I did not wait long” with a smile.

Rin smiled back.

Haru said, “Let’s go to the cafeteria?”

Rin replied, “Okay.”

They started walking towards the cafeteria. Haru realized that he was walking a little too fast compared to Rin, so he adjusted his pace with her.

After they reached the cafeteria, Haru and Rin picked what they wanted to eat and looked for a place to eat. There was an empty table at the corner near a window.

Haru asked if that table was fine to Rin and she replied by saying yes.

They walked towards the table and sat down face to face. They started to eat when Haru noticed that Rin was too thin and frail. She looked like she could break anytime. He did not want to seem like an intrusive guy so he decided not to ask if she was eating on time.

Haru started eating and she did the same. In between, they talked about the high school they studied at and what subjects they took during it. When they finished eating, they stood up and started walking down to their respective classes. He offered to drop her near her class, which Rin politely accepted. As soon as they reached near her class, Haru asked "Will you come to the isolated place when your classes get over?"

Rin looked startled and Haru started contemplating whether he made a wrong move.

She replied, "Umm, my classes get over by 2:30 pm. If that is okay with you, I will come." She said it with a smile.

Haru smiled and said, “Yes, that is absolutely fine. I am the one asking you to come so I have no problem.”

She replied, “Okay. See you then.”

Haru smiled and walked to his class. Two and half hours until he can talk to her again.
