Chapter 36: Fireworks and their aftermath.

Aki’s Point of View

Aki followed their car from a distance. He kept his word and did not interfere with them. He let them be. However, before he distanced himself from Rin, he had attached a red string with Rin’s finger.

He was going to follow them from a distance but the string was to let him know if anything happened instantly. Aki flew as he kept his eyes on the car. They drove out of the city and onto the highway.

After about fifteen minutes or so, Aki watched as the car stopped. Both Rin and Haru got out of the car. He watched Haru walk towards Rin and they started smoking. As he promised not to interfere, he stayed above them and did not fly down.

After a while, they got into the car and they started moving again. Aki followed them. After about another fifteen minutes, the car came to a stop. They were on the foot of a small hill. Since Aki was flying, he saw a canopy on top of the hill.

He understood that they were going to climb the hill. So, he waited for them to climb, and then he followed them from a distance.

After another ten minutes or so, they reached the canopy and sat down on the bench inside.

Aki’s eyes were on the canopy when he heard a sound coming from the direction of the city. He looked in the direction and saw fireworks. It was pretty.

“So, this was your plan young man. Not bad.” He thought. The show went on for about ten minutes and it stopped. He was waiting for them to stand up and leave the place but that did not happen. However, he still waited for them.

After a while, the fireworks started again. Aki understood that reason they did not leave was that the show was not over. As the fireworks continued, Aki could not help but wanted to see Rin.

“Was she happy right now?” was what he was thinking. So, he slowly descended behind the canopy and levitated towards where they were sitting. He looked at Rin and saw her smile. Seeing her smile, Aki also smiled. This calmed him as his decision to trust Haru was maybe right.

He looked at Haru. He felt like something was burning inside him. Haru was staring at Rin as if he was in love with Rin and that he would do everything for her. Aki could not handle it so he flew away. He kept his distance but he was not going to leave Rin.

Soon after that, they stood up and walked down the hill to their car. They were both in the car and they drove back the way they came from. Aki followed behind. After about half an hour, they reached where they had left Rin's car.

After they got out of the car, Aki descended to where Rin was standing and remained beside her.

Aki watched as Rin turn towards Haru. She spoke, “Thank you so much for today. The drive to the place, and the fireworks were amazing. I had so much fun today.” She smiled at Haru.

Haru looked at her and smiled. Then he said.

“Anything for you.”

Aki's eyes widened as he was shocked by what he heard. "Wait what?" he thought. He turned towards Rin. He watched as she started blushing. Since the red string was still connected, Aki felt Rin’s heart starting to beat fast.

Aki looked at Rin and thought, “Do you like this guy?” Aki started to feel an ache in his body.

Aki turned towards Haru as he heard him starting to speak, “Um….. Ri...Rin. I.. I..am very sorry about that. I do not know what I was thinking. Can you forgive me?”

Aki felt her heartbeat getting back to normal. He looked at her and saw that she regained herself and was calm. She then spoke, “It is okay. Let us not worry about that. People can make mistakes." Then she smiled at him.

Haru then said, “Thank you Rin,".

Aki was confused. He did not know what was happening between them. He was confused about what they felt about each other.

Right then, he heard Rin speak, “Haru, it is getting late. I have to go home or my father is going to worry. Thank you again for tonight. See you on Monday?”

Haru smiled at her and spoke, “No problem. Drive safe. See you on Monday.”

Then Aki followed Rin to her car. He also got inside the car as Rin did. Then Rin started driving. Aki still felt the weird ache in his body and a heavy feeling.

They were about to reach home. Just then, Aki heard a voice in his head.

It said, “Aki, guardian angel of the human named Rin. You are being summoned by the higher angels to Heaven. Leave the human realm and come back here. Immediately.”

Aki was shocked yet again. He thought, “Why is the Heaven calling me? It has been only around 24 hours in the human realm.”

However, he could not disobey them. So, before he started going. He gently placed his hand on Rin’s head and whispered, “I will be back soon.”

He then flew back to Heaven.

*After a while*

Aki reached the gates of the Heaven. As soon as he entered, the two angels at the gate looked at him and immediately informed him that the higher angels were in the meeting hall. Aki nodded and then flew in the direction of the hall.

As soon as he entered the hallway which led to the meeting hall, he could feel the gazes of other angels. “What is happening?” he thought.

Then he entered the meeting hall and bowed in front of the higher angels. Aki did not lift his head up as he was not ordered to. This confused him again. “Why are not they asking me to sit down?” he thought.

After a while, he heard one of the higher angels speak.

“Aki. We cannot believe this. You have been ordered to stay in the Heaven for five years to rebuild your immunity against negative emotions. After these five years, you were allowed to go back to the human realm. It has been about only twenty four hours and you have already started feeling those again. How could this happen?”

Aki was startled by it. “What do they mean I am feeling negative emotions?” he thought. He calmly spoke, “With all respect, I am not sure what you are talking about. I have not felt negative emotions.”

Another higher angel spoke sternly, “Silence.”

Aki flinched at that.

The higher angel continued, “The ache that you felt earlier today is known as jealousy. That is an extremely negative emotion human feels which leads to undesired conflicts. It makes them irrational and they do things that end up hurting themselves and others in the process. Are you falling in love with the human you are supposed to be looking after?”

Aki could not believe what he was hearing. He did have an ache earlier when he saw Rin and Haru together but he did not know it was jealousy. There were no words he could speak. The last part of what the higher angel said was bugging him the most. Aki was not sure about it and he was confused. One thing he was sure about was that he was worried that he had to leave Rin again because of his carelessness.

Just then, the higher angel continued, “You are to spend the night in solitude. You will be under the supervision of a senior angel. You will not be allowed to go back to the human until we decide what should be done about this. We will decide tomorrow morning. You will be led here by the guards. You are dismissed.”

The highest angel spoke, “Take him to the solitary confinement.”

Aki was then led to solitary confinement by the senior angel who had the duty to watch over him for the night.

*After sometime*

The senior angel spoke, "Here it is. I never thought a day like this would come.”

Aki smiled at him. "Thank you, senior angel. “

There was nothing more he could say or do about it. After he was inside the room, he started worrying about Rin. However, he remembered that Rin still had the red string he had attached earlier during the day. If anything happened to Rin, he would know it. He just hoped that he would be able to get back to her on time.

Then he started to think about what the higher angel said. “Are you falling in love with the human you are supposed to be looking after?”

It repeated again and again in his mind. Aki was not sure what he felt. One thing he knew for sure was that he would do anything to save her and to keep her smiling.

“Is this love?” he thought.

However, Aki still could not understand it. He had been with Rin from the moment she was born. He then realized that what he felt before the five years he spent in the Heaven was different from what he felt after going down to the human realm yesterday.

He felt the difference in how he watched over her. He felt the difference in how he cared about her. He felt the difference in how he wanted to protect her from any harm in her life.

“If this is love, then I think I am starting to fall in love with her.” He thought.
