Chapter 45: Through thick and thin?

Haru’s Point of View

Haru watched Rin sleep as he waited patiently. He truly thanked the god, the universe, and anyone else he should be thanking that Rin is alive. He was so much calmer at the moment. When he had first heard about it from the nurse and when he had reached the hospital, he felt like his anxiety was digging up a hole where he can curl up and die.

He had never been scared and anxious to this extent. He could really let out a sigh of relief now. However, even though the anxiety was gone, he was still worried. He knew that something was troubling her because of the sadness in her eyes. In addition to it, it was also because of the visions he had of her and the “curse” that he has to save her.

He wanted to know what was troubling her. However, he could not ask her. They were acquainted but he wondered if what they were could be termed as “friends”. They had been talking to each other for only a small number of days.

However, even though he knew that he wanted to be near her and help her through any trouble she was facing. His heart reached his mouth when he heard she had jumped off a six-storied building. He wished she could open up to him. He wanted to let her know that he will be there for her through thick and thin. He wanted her to know that she had a shoulder to lean on through anything. He wanted her to know that she was not alone.

He looked at her and gently touched her head.

“You did not even tell me about your mother. I understand that we might not have been extremely close that you would have told me that. However, I really want to make sure you know that I am on your side. No matter what happens, I will always be on your side.” He whispered even though he knew she would not hear that.

Then he remembered what the nurse had told him earlier. He quickly opened the door to the balcony and took out his phone after closing the door. He then dialed his mother’s number. He asked his mother to not tell anyone that Rin had jumped off a six-storied building and was fine without a single scratch on her. His mother replied that she understood what he was saying and agreed not to.

After ending the call, he stayed on the balcony for a while. It had been around 6 hours since he had reached the hospital. He remembered what the doctors told him. Rin would be asleep for about 48 hours due to fatigue. Then he opened the door and closed it after he was inside the room. He then decided to go home to get a change of clothes. He also wanted to ask his mother to cook some soup and something to eat when she woke up.

He then sat on the stool and gently touched her head again. He then whispered, “I will be back soon. “

Then he stood up and walked out of the door. Before he actually left the hospital, he informed the nurse that he will be back soon. He then got into his car and started it. He drove towards his house. It took him around twenty five minutes to reach home. He did not bother to park his car inside the gate as he will be leaving again. He left the car outside the gate and then walked to the main door.

Soon after he rang the bell, his mother came to open the door. She was shocked to see him here.

"What happened, sweetie? Why are you here? Who is Rin with?" she asked.

Haru smiled and turned to his mother. He spoke, “Don’t worry mom. She is alone but she is fine. I came back for a change of clothes. I will be there for a few days.”

His mother nodded and said, “I will make something for you to eat.”

Haru replied “No mom, it’s fine. I will grab something to eat on the way. I do not have a lot of time.” and walked to his room. He took out a duffle bag from the corner of his room. He then walked to his wardrobe and took out a couple of shirts and two pairs of jeans. Then he put them in the bag. He went to the bathroom to grab his toothbrush and toothpaste which he also put in the bag.

After he was done packing, he took out another shirt and a jogger. He took off his clothes and changed into those. He put the clothes in the laundry basket.

Then he walked out of the room with the duffle bag.

He reached the living room and saw his mother in the kitchen. He kept the bag near the hallway and walked to the kitchen. He asked, “Mom? Can I ask you for a favor?”

His mother turned towards him and replied, "What is it, sweetie?"

Haru spoke, “The doctors said that Rin will wake up after about 48 hours. So, before that can you make some soup and something for her to eat? I will come to pick it up.”

His mother smiled at him. She touched her head and replied, “I cannot believe my boy has grown up this much. Of course, I will make it. I will give you a call when it is ready okay?”

Haru smiled back and replied, "Thank you, mom. You are the best."

Then he turned to leave. He picked up his duffle bag and reached the main door when he heard his mother say, “Take care of Rin and yourself.”

He replied, “Okay mom. I will. Do not worry about that.”

Then he walked out of the main door and towards his car. He opened the door of the back seat and tossed his duffle bag inside. Then he got into the driver’s seat and put the key in. He started driving towards the hospital.
