Catrina’s POV
I couldn’t believe that I offered others to come over to my house and they agreed. I was both excited and nervous about it. Thankfully, I did keep the place pretty clean.....well, it stays clean and looking nice when my Aunt wasn’t around. I was pulled out of my nervousness and anxiety by the bell ringing signaling the end of the day. I had finished all my papers for my classes but will edit them later that way they will be perfect when I turn them in tomorrow. I collected all my items and headed for my locker. I put all my books inside and closed it.
“You ready?” Pearl asked, bouncing over to me.
“Yeah. Are you?” I asked, hoping my nerves weren’t showing.
“Yep.” She popping the ‘p.’
“You girlies ready?” Cat came up behind me asking.
“I think we are ready,” Pearl and I said.
“I have cheer practice, but I will see you after,” Lauren said, shoving things in her locker and taking off running.
We all waved bye to her and headed to the parking lot. I followed them over to a cute light blue Honda Civic. We all climbed in, and I gave Cat my address, and she looked up directions and we were off.
“Did either of you start the paper for our Folklore, Legends and Religion class? I can’t figure out what to write about,” Cat asked as we drove to my house.
“I finished mine, but I need to reread it and make changes if needed,” I told them as we arrived at my house. Cat turned the car off and we all climbed out.
"How have you already finished it? I’m still stuck on picking something to talk about."
I walked up and unlocked the door letting them in. “Well, I like that kind of stuff, so it was easy to figure out what to write about.”
We all walked to the table and set our stuff down in a chair. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I walked over, and it was Rachel. I let her in.
"Sorry it took me a while to get here. I stopped and grabbed some snacks," she said, holding three bags full of snacks. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I just grabbed a little of everything,” she told me.
We all walked over to the others, and they were chilling on the floor with their school work. We walked over and joined them.
“Please tell me you got something sour. I love some sour candy?” Cat asked.
“I need something sweet,” Pearl added.
“I need some chocolate, something bad,” I added, making all of them smile and chuckle.
Rachel passed out all the candy to each of us, and we all opened a bag of candy and got working.
“So, what did you pick?” Cat asked, popping some sour skittles in her mouth.
“I wrote about witches,” I told her, rereading my paper and popping some M&Ms in my mouth. It got quiet, and I looked up and saw them staring at me. “What?”
“You chose witches?” Pearl asked confused.
“Well yeah, to be honest, I had lots of different things I could have picked, but that was the only one I could think of more than one reason. They could be real. What were you guys thinking about doing?” I asked Cat and Rachel since I had the class with them.
“Not sure what were some of your other ideas, maybe we could pick something from your ideas,” Rachel said, and Cat nodded in agreement.
“Really wishing I had this class with you guys. It sounds interesting. Though I have my hands full with this psychology class I am in,” Pearl said, getting back to what looked like a huge packet of paperwork to get done.
“Well, some of the other ideas I had were things like Fae so that can be anything from fairies to dragons and then the other I was thinking about was werewolves or lycans. I love history and there are moments in history when those kinds of animals come up in stories a lot, so I always figured there had to be a little bit of truth behind them. Does that help you guys? ”Pearl looked up at me, shocked, and the other two had their mouths hanging open. “What?” I asked, confused by their reaction.
“You believe those stories?” Rachel added.
“In a way, yes, but also no. I'm more of a 'believe it when I see it' kind of person, so do I think they are real in some beliefs back in the day sure, but do I think they are like 100% real today or even back then no.” I told them, then I got to work editing my papers, and they got to work as well.
When I finished my work, I decided to get some water for us to drink and brought it over to the girls. A knock came from the front. I went and opened the door to see Lauren and Daniel holding several boxes of pizza.
“I told mom and dad that I was going to be at your place with other girls and order pizza, so she ordered pizza for them and us.” She said with a shrug.
“I will have to really thank your parents,” I said as Lauren walked in.
“The top four are for you guys,” Daniel said.
I grabbed the boxes and waved bye to him while closing the door. I took the boxes to the kitchen and got some plates out for everyone.
“You guys had homework? It was the first day,” Lauren said when she noticed everyone working on homework.
“Girl, they are college-level classes, so yes, we have homework on the first day.”
“Oh, is that candy?”
“Yeah, I grabbed some for everyone, not sure what you or Trina would like, so I just got a bit of everything,” Rachel told her.
“I’m not picky,” Lauren told her with a smile. She then came into the kitchen with me “So mom ordered cheese, pepperoni, and some breadsticks. Also ordered this cookie pizza as well,” she said, moving each of the boxes and writing what each one was on it.
All the girls got up and grabbed what they wanted to eat, and I did the same. Suddenly someone’s phone began ringing.
“Hello?” Rachel answered. “Okay, one sec.” She said, then looked at me. “Can we put the news on?”
“Sure,” I told her, and grabbed the controller and turned the news on.
Breaking News was on the screen. I turned the volume up so we could all hear.
‘The police are still looking for evidence on the murders from this morning, but now there are two other houses that were hit about an hour ago and the whole family was killed. The police are warning everyone to be careful when going out and to make sure that all windows and doors are closed with the alarm set. We will bring you all the news and updates as they come to us.’ Then they showed a map and red dots on each place that the murders had happened at.
“Isn’t that about one street away from here?” I asked officially, worried.
“Yep.” Lauren said.
“Yeah, we are watching it,” Rachel said still on the phone.
“Trina, my mom, said that she wants you to stay at our house till your Aunt gets home,” Lauren told me, looking at her phone. “I think that’s a good idea.” I looked at Lauren, who was giving me a tight smile, knowing I will the safety being offered but won’t have it once my Aunt came back.
“You live with your Aunt?” Cat asked.
"Yeah, my parents died when I was about 10 and, with no other living family, I was sent to live with my Aunt. We move a lot though. Would love to actually stop moving every so many years."
“Sorry to hear that. Why do you move so much?” Pearl asked.
"Not sure my Aunt says it’s because of her job, but I don’t think that is true. I also know not to question her, so I just go with it,” I said with a shrug. “When my parents were alive we moved a lot then too, so maybe it’s a family thing.”
“Well, on the plus side, you got to travel and see lots of places,” Cat said. “I have always wanted to travel and see the world, so you actually doing that is pretty cool.”
While she was right, the only thing was that, since I was in school, the only thing I really saw was home, grocery stores and school. If I had actually gotten to really see the places I have lived in, then yeah, I would agree it was cool getting to travel a lot.
“Um, my boyfriend wants to come get me. Is it okay if I tell him your address?” Pearl asked me.
“That’s fine.”
