Catrina’s POV
Pearl’s boyfriend, Grayson, came and picked her up and they both took some slices of pizza with them. Once they left, Rachel and Kat left too, since their parents wanted them to get home before dark with a murderer on the loose. I understood that and once everyone was gone, Lauren helped me clean up and then pack some of my things to take to her house. After everything was cleaned up and taken care of she came and helped me carry my things downstairs. I grabbed my backpack and keys, then set the alarm and locked the front door. I walked over with Lauren, and we went inside, and her parents waved to us when we walked in. We headed upstairs, passing her room, her brother's room and the game room, then went into the guest room and put my things away. I had stayed at their house before, so some of my toiletries and some pj’s were still in the guest room.
“Honey, when will your Aunt be coming home?” Mrs. Maddox asked me from the doorway.
“She said she would be back Wednesday, but she could be gone longer since she is staying with a guy,” I told her.
“I swear that women is a piece of work in more ways than one.” She mumbled, walking away. “Stay as long as you need your always welcome over here.”
“Thank you.” I shouted to her.
“I swear our parents like her more than us at times,” Daniel said, coming into the room and plopping down on the bed. I just shrugged it off, but I saw Lauren smile at his comment.
“So, I didn’t get to ask how was cheer practice?”
"It was great. I was voted cheer vice president, which I’m happy about, but pissed that the captain yet again is Ariel, so I have to work with her."
“Could be worse.”
“How?” she asked me.
“Not sure, it's just something people say.” Which was true, but I didn’t have a happy spin to put on it, since if Ariel is captain, she will make Laurens life harder than it needs to be and her minions will definitely help with that. “What about you does the team look promising this year?”
“I think we could make it to the play-offs this year. Having a team that has those new kids on it definitely made practice harder than normal. They are beasts on the field and, while that is a good thing for game day. It also means that I will be sore from practice a lot,” he said as he rolled his shoulders with a wince.
"Sorry you're hurting, but at least the team will be unstoppable this year. That’s a good thing, right?"
“Of course, it is girl. Also, it means the cheer team will be cheering even more than normal from us winning and crushing our rivals on the field,” Lauren said with determination in her eyes.
“Right,” I drew out. “Sounds like you both had a good practice then.”
“Yep.”
“Basically.”
“Kids, you all need to get ready for bed.” Mr. Maddox came into the room and told us.
“Okay,” we all said, getting off the bed and going our separate ways. I plugged my phone in to charge and got a shower. Once I was done in the bathroom and had put on some PJs, I turned the lights off and got into bed. ‘Not a bad first day back to school. Hopefully the rest of the year goes just as well.’ Was the last thing I thought before sleep overtook me.
----
“ALL A BOARD!” blared into the room, waking me with a fright just to realize it was my alarm. “I really need to change my alarm sound. Dang Ozzy is going to give me a heart attack,” I said while turning the alarm off. I got up and did what I needed in the bathroom and looked over my clothes to figure out what to wear. I decided, since I was not feeling too good this morning, that a pair of worn-out dark jeans and a blue top that said ‘I don’t speak stupid’ would be my look for the day. I reapplied the ointment to my wounds, happy that the wound on my head no longer hurt, and the burns were fading just like the bruises, but I would still need a jacket to cover my arms until they were completely healed. I got dressed and decided to flat iron my hair, which sadly took longer than I thought it would.
Knock, Knock
“Trina you up honey. I have breakfast sandwiches ready downstairs.” Mrs. Maddox sang out peaking in the room. “Oh, you’re already up.” She said, noticing me in the bathroom dressed.
“Yeah I set an alarm.”
“Wish my kids would do that.” She chuckled. She walked over and looked at my head and arms. “Your head is almost completely healed, but still keep putting the ointment on it. Same goes for your arms."
“Thankfully, I have always healed fast.” I chuckled, putting some product on my hair.
“Well, I am heading to work. You kids get to school on time.”
“Will do.”
I finished getting ready just putting some mascara on and some lipstick. I grabbed a jacket, my phone and backpack and headed downstairs. I set my bag down and put my phone in my pocket and my jacket on. Then went into the kitchen and grabbed two breakfast toasted bagels with eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, and some hash browns in it. I sat down to eat alone since I could hear them upstairs getting ready. Daniel came down first and went to the kitchen and grabbed himself two sandwiches and set them on the table, passing me a Coca-Cola to drink while he had coffee. After a while, Lauren joined us downstairs. As Daniel and I were cleaning up.
“Your running late.” He grumbled to her.
“Couldn’t figure out what to wear, and then my hair didn’t want to work with me either.” She said, grabbing a to-go cup, filling it with coffee and a sandwich, then following us to the door.
We all climbed into the car with our things and headed off to school. Since Lauren was behind this morning, we had a hell of a time finding a spot and had to walk a distance to get to the school. Once inside, we ran to our lockers and grabbed our things, then ran to class. Lauren and I sat down right as the bell rang, and we let out a breath relieved we were not late.
“Tomorrow set an alarm to wake you up, so we do not have to rush,” I complained to her.
“Did that in the car.”
“Good.” I said right as the teacher walked in, and class began.
The school day was rushing by, and soon we were all at lunch talking about our classes and how I am already confused in my math class and Lauren swears that her economics teacher is speaking a foreign language.
“Hey Daniel, coach asked that I give you this,” A guy said, getting all of our attention. Daniel reached for it.
“Coach wants us to have last period for practicing too?”
“Yep. Give the note to your teacher, and they will excuse you from class,” the guys said, walking off.
“Well, there is one less period you have to worry about.”
"True, but now I have more practice. I am still recovering from yesterdays.”
“Sorry.”
“Lauren.” I heard a snarky voice say. We all turned to see Ariel and her minions standing there with hands on their hips.
“What do you want?”
“Look, the new people on the team are not up to where they should be, so instead of going to your last period, all cheerleaders are going to be outside practicing, so we don’t look like idiots at our first game.”
“Okay, you have a note or something for me to give my teacher.” She asked the snake.
“The principal sent an email out with all the cheerleaders' names on it, so just show up on the field and DON’T be late,” Ariel said, blowing a kiss to Daniel then turning to look at me. “AND YOU! Stay away from Dean. He is mine.”
“Does he know that or, better yet, does your boyfriend Max know that?” I popped off, earning a chuckle from Lauren and Daniel.
Ariel leaned on the table. “What I do and who is mine is my business, and you should just stay out of it, or you will be sorry.” She sneered at me.
I stood and got in her face, which shocked her since I never talked back or stood up for myself, but I wasn’t feeling good and had a full-blown migraine and this b***h was annoying the s**t out of me. “And what will you do if I don’t? I have no control over him anyway. Though maybe he likes being around me instead of you because I haven’t slept with half of the school’s male population like some people,” I said, looking her up and down.
She hesitated for a second, then smirked at me and pulled back some and SLAP “Know your place and hear me now.” She said after slapping me so hard my head whipped to the side and the whole cafeteria went dead silent. I held my cheek. “Stay away from Dean... Your life just may depend on it, b***h,” she said, then walked away.
“Girl, are you okay?” Lauren asked me concerned.
“I have had it with people bullying me,” I stated firmly. I grabbed Lauren’s milk carton and threw it hitting Ariel in the head and covering her in milk.
“AHHHHHH!!” She screamed as she looked at her outfit dripping with milk.
The whole cafeteria let out a gasp from shock. I had sat down with a smirk on my face but acting like I didn’t do anything, and Lauren and Daniel’s jaws were on the floor.
“I can’t believe you did that,” Lauren whispered.
“I wish I had videotaped that.” Daniel chuckled. “You finally fought back...somewhat.”
“WHO THREW THAT?” Ariel screamed. The whole room went dead silent. “Well? Someone threw it. Who was it?” Not a single sound was said. “UGH! I WILL FIND WHO DID IT AND THEY ARE DEAD!” She screamed while running out of the cafeteria with her minions hot on her tail.
Once she left, the talking continued back up like nothing happened.
“I hope for your sake, Trina, that she doesn’t find out it was you,” Becka said, looking at me concerned.
“Forget about finding out. I hope I’m there when these two actually fight,” Lucas, one of Daniels' football friends, says excited.
“Let’s hope these two don’t actually fight. Considering that Trina is here on scholarship and Ariel’s dad is the principal," Sara, one of Laurens’ cheer friends, reminded us.
“IF she finds out it was me, but until then, I will act like I didn’t do anything,” I told them. I reached in my bag and took a pill to help with my head.
“Your head bothering you?” Daniel asked.
“Woke up not feeling great, but now it’s a full-blown migraine and dealing with the snake queen zapped all remaining energy from me,” I told him, pulling my bag over and putting my chin on it.
Daniel got up and walked away and came back a few moments later with a cold Coca-Cola can for me. “Drink it. It will help your head, and you know it."
I mouthed ‘thank you’ and took the can, taking a drink from it. Soon the bell for our next period rang. We all got our things and waved bye heading to each of our classes.
