Chapter 6: Maybe Some New Friends

1572 Words
Catrina’s POV I ignored them and sat down as far away from them as I could get. “She must be thinking if she dresses like that she will be able to snag one of the new guys' attentions,” Ariel's friend Belle said. “Please like any of them will even glance at her. The guys that already go here don’t want her, so why would the new ones want her?” Ariel's other friend Cindy laughed. They all looked fake and didn’t even have any good assets in my opinion. They were all cheer leaders and, since Ariel’s father was the principal, she and her friends never got in trouble. I continued ignoring them as they threw insult after insult at me. “Hey plastic bitches! Why don’t you shut the F*** up!” came a snarking female voice. I looked over to see who had the balls to stand up to them to see Rachel, Dean and two others walking in. “Excuse me!” Ariel said, standing up and getting in Rachel's face. “What did you just call me?” “She called you a b***h and fake. Which you are. Your hair is dyed, and it's easy to see that your lips, breasts, and butts are all fake as well. Do you have anything real about you?” the other girl that walked in with them said. I was shocked, not just one, but two girls were telling her and her friends off. I looked at the guys and they both just stood behind the girls backing them up, but Dean was looking at me. I looked away from him and went back to watching Rachel and the other girl. “Clearly, you two don’t know who I am, so I will let you pass this time, but in the future don’t piss me off or get involved with something that has nothing to do with you,” Ariel said with a wicked smile on her face. “I don’t care who you are, and you won’t be telling me what I can and can’t do.” Rachel told her, walking away with her friends following leaving a flabbergasted Ariel behind them. Rachel saw me and skipped over and sat in front of me. “Hey girly. I was hoping to get a class with you,” she said with a bright smile on her face. “Really?” I was worried she only wanted that so she could ask me tons of questions. “Well yeah. Nico told me a little about you, and then I got to meet you. You seem cool.” She said it was obvious. “Oh.” I was shocked. “So, this is my best friend, Kathrine, but I just call her Cat,” She said, motioning to the other girl sitting next to her. “This is Javier or Javy, as I call him.” She said, pointing to the guy sitting behind Dean. “And that is my other cousin Dean.” She said pointing him out since he was sitting next to me. “I somewhat met Dean earlier,” I told her while nodding to him and waving at the others. “Is that your natural hair color? If so, I am so jealous. It is so pretty,” Cat said, making me smile. I don’t get compliments from anyone other than Lauren, so I was sure I was blushing too. “Thank you. It’s my natural hair color,” I told her. I thought she was a knock-out with her green-blue eyes, blonde hair that was in golden curls, and being a not too small and not too tall height of 5ft 4in. “You’re gorgeous. You got lucky in the gene department,” Cat said, looking me up and down, almost like she was flirting with me. “Cool your roll Cat. I don’t think she likes girls like that,” Javier said. “I’m being honest, but you never know.” “I’m in to guys, but you are very pretty yourself,” I told her honestly. “Thank you and too bad.” She said, looking sad. “So, your Trina?” Javier asked me. “I thought your name was Catrina,” Dean commented in a snarky tone. “My name is Catrina, but I let my friends call me Trina and you were mean to me when we met earlier, so that is why I said my name was Catrina.” I said the first part to Javier but the last part to Dean with a glare. “Dang dude, I have never seen a girl not throw themselves at you before,” Javier said jokingly. Dean turned and glared at him. “How did you know my name was Trina?” “Nico and Rach,” Javier said with a shrug. Ah, that made sense. ‘Why does this chic seem to get along with everyone? Yet she doesn’t seem to want anything to do with me?’ I heard Dean’s thoughts loudly in my head. He was pissed off. “You should apologize, Dean,” Cat remarked. Dean said nothing and Cat and Javier rolled their eyes at him. The teacher walked in then and everyone faced toward the front of the class to listen. I was listening to the teacher talk about their hopes for the class, since this was the first year it was being offered when a piece of paper was tossed at me. I turned to the right and saw Dean looking at me, and he nodded to the paper. I unfolded it: ‘Why is my brother in such a bad mood? Rach said that something happened to you...so what happened?’ he wrote. I didn’t know how to answer him and looked at him again, and he seemed not to be pissed anymore and just really concerned. I ignored him and focused back on the teacher when another paper hit my desk. I turned and glared at Dean, who just stared at me, then motioned for me to write. Wanting him to leave me alone, I wrote back ‘It’s something personal about me that I don’t really want to talk about. I’m sorry your brother is in a bad mood.’ I refolded it and tossed it back to him. The teacher was talking about how the big grade for our class would be a group project and to start thinking about who we would want to work with since it would be groups of three. I looked at the syllabus and there were some topics we could pick for the project. When the paper was tossed back to me, I unfolded it and read ‘why would he be in a bad mood over something about you?’ I wrote ‘none of your business’ in all caps and gave it back to him. The teacher finished reading the syllabus and told us that our first grade was to talk about a folklore or legend we found interesting. I knew what I was going to write about immediately. I have always wondered if witches could be real, since so many things in history are described as mystical or magical, so I always believed that it had to be real, or at least I hoped. I would love to use it on my Aunt to make her nice. The teacher said class ended in 20 mins, so we could think about what we would write and who to be in a group with. I had only gotten two assignments today and I could most likely get both finished before getting home today. So, I was happy about that. “What class do you have next and want to be in a group with Cat and I?” Rachel asked me. “Sure, that sounds good. I have library aid next, then I’m done for the day, but I will be staying anyway since my ride is in football and his sister is in cheer I will just work on this assignment and my one other waiting for them.” “Sounds like you have a chill rest of the day,” Javier said. “That’s the plus of taking college classes, since I finished most core classes,” I told him with a grin. “Wait, you're in college-level classes?” he asked shocked. “Yeah, I am in three. English, History and Natural Science.” “Dang. I can barely pass my regular classes,” Rachel said and Cat nodded, agreeing. “Are you on scholarship?” Dean randomly asked. Everyone got quiet and looked at him, then me. “Not that that is any of your business, but yes. I got in due to having good grades.” I answered honestly. I expected them to comment more on it, but they didn’t. “Why do you have to wait for your ride? Do you not know anyone else with a car?” Javier asked. “Well, I don’t have one of my own and my ride is also my neighbor's, so it works out.” I turned to face him. “Oh, makes sense then,” he answered. I turned back around to face forward just as the bell rang. At least my day was almost over. I picked up my things and walked out the door and headed for the library.
