Catrina’s POV
When the bell rang, I was rushing to get out of there since Dean made me feel uncomfortable. I put my books in my locker and grabbed what I would need for the rest of the school day and was closing my locker when Lauren and Daniel came over to me and put their stuff away, and we headed to the cafeteria.
“Girl, I swear these new kids are weird and hot. Not sure if they are more hot or weird.”
I looked at Daniel and we both said “Weird.” These new kids all acted odd and seemed to huddle around one another and didn’t want to get to know any of us. Just walking in the hallways made it easy to see who was new and who wasn’t by how they circled up and stood with, but the main difference was in how they looked. The new kids, both female and males, were tall and built like they worked out every day.
“Hey, did you hear me?” Daniel bumped my shoulder.
“Huh?” I guess I zoned out. “Sorry, can you repeat what you said.”
“Got lost in thought, huh? I asked if you got into that one class you were hoping for or not?”
“Oh yeah, I have it after lunch. I am actually looking forward to it. It’s not a core class, but I picked it since I like history, and the class is about religion, folklore and legends. So, it should be interesting.” I tell them as we carry our trays over to a table to eat.
“That class sounds interesting. I wish I was taking it,” Daniel said.
We all sat down and began eating. Two of Laurens cheer friends came and sat near her and two of Daniels' football buddies sat near him. I knew their names, and they would be nice to me, so I didn’t mind if they sat with us.
“Catrina, I saw that you were sitting next to the two new guys, and they are so hot. Did you by chance get their names?” Becka asked me. She was on the small size like me and always seemed to have a new boyfriend which I didn’t get but to each their own.
“Um, the one that sat in front of me is Dean and the one that sat next to me is named Nicolas. They are twin brothers,” I told her. She smiled and started blushing. I guess she has a crush on one or both of them. “I think the one named Dean is a player though, so be careful.”
“How do you know that?” Brandan asked.
“Just a feeling at best,” I told them, since I couldn’t tell them the truth.
I went back to eating and just listening to their conversations, keeping to myself. The girls were talking about a new route that they had to learn that was hard, and the guys were talking about how the football team would be unstoppable this year.
“Girl, are you going to walk home or stay after since we both have practice today?” Lauren asked.
“I will stay after and wait for you two to finish,” I told her. She nodded and went back to talking to her friends. I got up and grabbed my tray.
“Are you okay?” Daniel asked.
“Yeah, just going to throw my trash away and go to the bathroom is all.” I let him know. He nodded okay and I walked off. I walked outside and leaned against the wall away from the eyes of others. I set my bag on the ground and took my jacket off, taking some deep breaths. My pain this morning wasn’t too bad, but it was getting worse now. I bent down and dug through my bag, trying to find the pain pills I keep in my bag with me at all times when I heard someone gasp behind me. I turned around to see Nico and some chic standing next to him, and they were both staring at me in shock.
“Oh my gosh! Are you okay? Who did this to you?” the girl asked, running over, looking at my arms with real concern in her eyes. I was panicking. I wore my jacket and jeans to hide everything and thought I would be safe out here from anyone seeing me. “Are you being abused at home? If so, just nod and I will call the police for you,” the girl said with tears in her eyes.
I looked past her to Nico, who was staring at me wide-eyed and pissed off. I saw him clenching his fists and his eyes looked black. The girl followed my eyes and stood in front of me, blocking my sight. ‘Why were his eyes black? People don’t have black eyes,’ I thought. I leaned and looked around her and Nico was turned around so I could only see his back. I bent back down and looked for the pills again, ignoring the girl who was still talking to me. I finally found the pills and grabbed two and was about to take them when I realized I didn’t have another to drink with them.
“You can have this,” the girl told me, handing me a bottle of water.
“Thanks.” I told her taking it and taking the pills. I put my jacket back on and stood up leaning against the wall again.
“So, you can talk. Good to know. Want to talk about your arms?”
“Not really,” I told her, looking at the sky to keep from crying.
‘I am going to kill whoever hurt her. Why is she covered in bruises, cuts and burns like that?’ I heard Nico’s thoughts.
I thought it was nice that he cared but also was scared that he would ask tons of questions.
“I’m Rachel, by the way. I’m Nico’s cousin.”
I looked at her, and she held her hand out to me. I shook it. “Nice to meet you. I’m Catrina, but you can call me Trina.” She was very pretty. She was about 5ft 3in with green eyes, brown hair with blonde tips that were dyed, and she was light-skinned. She looked nothing like Nico or Dean, but they are cousins, so not too shocking they don’t look alike.
“Is he okay?” I asked her, nodding toward Nico, who was still facing away from us. She walked over to him and whispered something to him, and he turned around, and his eyes looked normal. I guess I imagined his eyes looking black since they look normal now. He still looked pissed with a tight smile and his hands shoved in his back pants pockets.
“He is okay, just not happy about.....you know,” she said, motioning to my arms.
I just nodded in understanding, not wanting to talk about it. The bell rang, and I picked my stuff up and walked back inside with them right behind me. At least I won’t have to talk about it if I’m in class and I doubt anyone will have my next class. I walked into my class and my mood immediately got worse.
“Look who is trying to dress pretty,” Ariel chuckled. “It would take a lot more than that to get laid or any attention from a guy though. Not enough make-up to cover up so much ugly. Not that that would help. Anyway, you have nothing to offer that would get any male's attention.” She said, earning chuckles from the two girls sitting next to her.
‘Great, I have this class with the Queen of the school and her minions, who are also my bullies.’
