Catrina’s POV
They both chose to sit at the back of the classroom with some of the other new kids. I looked at them over my shoulder and saw that the girls all flocked around the two guys. I faced back to the front.
“Is it just me or are those girls all trying too hard to get attention?” Lauren leaned over and asked me.
I laughed “seems that way.” We both laughed and shook our heads at how silly they looked.
“Alright, quiet down. We need to go over the class syllabus and also talk about my classroom rules,” our teacher said, walking over to her desk. She grabbed a stack of papers and asked a student to pass them out.
The rest of the class went well and quickly. I headed to my next class, which was a history class that was college level. I walked in and sat down and looked over the paper that was already on my desk. I was looking over it when someone sat in the seat in front of me.
“Are you even smart enough for this level class? I see that you are also dressing nicer. Trying to get some attention this year...if so, it won’t work. No one would want to be with someone as plain and ugly as you.”
I looked up and saw that it was one of the males that has bullied me since I got here. “Hello Max, did you have a good summer? Still with that Barbie you call your girlfriend?”
“Oh, we came back with a backbone.” he laughed. He leaned over on to my desk. “You can act all you want, but you're still a weak-ass, and it looks like I will have to reteach you your place.”
“Do you get off on being rude to females half your size?”
I looked up to see who said it and saw it was one with gray eyes from earlier. He was glaring at Max.
Max turned to look at him. “What did you just say to me?”
“Just don’t think it is nice to pick on females. So, if you want to bully someone, you can try to bully me.” He told Max, stepping closer. I was holding my breath waiting to see what would happen.
“Whatever,” Max said, walking out of the classroom, but I knew it was far from over.
I looked up at the guy. “You didn’t have to do that, but thank you.”
“I hate bullies,” he said with a smile. “Can I sit here?”
“Sure,” I said, motioning to the desk next to me.
He sat down, then reached his hand out to me. “I’m Nicoles, but most just call me Nico.”
I reached out and shook his hand, “Catrina.”
“Do you go by Catrina or a nickname? I thought I heard your friends call you Trina,” he said, letting go of my hand and facing me.
“That’s a little creepy that you were ease dropping.” I told him, turning to face him.
“I tend to hear a lot since I don’t talk a lot.” He tilted his head. “I think you know something about that.”
“Yeah I do.” I told him honestly. I have never had someone admit that to me and know what it actually feels like. “I guess you can call me Trina. I tend to only let my friends call me that.”
“Ooo cool, so I made a friend on my first day.” He chuckled.
“Maybe,” I said as our teacher came into the classroom. We went over the syllabus, and then he gave all of us an assignment to figure out what made us interested in history. We have to write a one-page paper about it. So, my first assignment of the day, hopefully I won’t have too many more. We finished class a little early, so I looked at my schedule to see what I had next. I groaned when I saw my next class.
“Not a fan of math?” Nico asked, leaning over to see my schedule.
I looked at him. “I hate math. It’s the one subject I struggle with.”
“I am actually good at math, and it looks like we have the same class and teacher. I have math next too. If you want, I could help you with it,” Nico offered.
The bell rang, and I got up with my things, and he got up. It was nice he was offering, but we just met, and I found it odd for someone to be that nice and helpful for a stranger. “I normally get help from my friends”, I told him honestly while walking to math.
“Oh My Gosh! Trina made a friend,” Lauren said, walking up to my side.
“Really girl?”
“Yes and wait till my brother finds out. He will be shocked too.”
“Her brother, your boyfriend?” Nico asked me in an annoyed tone.
“No, he’s more like a brother. He is the person that normally helps me with math though.”
“Huh”
“You two are so slow,” Daniel said, leaning against the wall next to our math class. He then looked at Nico. “Who’s he?”
“Nico, Daniel, Daniel, Nico.” I said, motioning to each of them while saying their names. They both nodded at each other. We all went in and sat down. Lauren sat in front of me and the guys each sat at the desk on either side of me. There were a group of new kids sitting on one side of the room and one of them was the guy from first period. I looked at Nico and saw him looking at the group. I leaned toward him. “You can go sit with them if you want to.”
He looked over at them and then looked back at me. “I would rather sit with you if that is okay?”
Lauren turned around and looked at us. “If you introduce us to some of new male students you can sit with us,” she said with a cheeky smile.
“Or you could ignore my sister,” Daniel added.
“Sit here or not your choice.” I said, not really caring. The teacher walked in, and the room went quiet. The class went by with no problems, but I did notice that Nico kept looking to his left toward the guy from first period. When the bell rang, we all got our stuff together and headed for the door. “So, I have science next what about you?”
“History,” Lauren said unhappily.
“Don’t worry, I will help you in there.”
“It's economics,” she told me.
“Oh s**t! Nope! You are on your own with that,” I told her.
“Didn’t you pass that class?” Daniel asked. “Also, I have economics next.”
“Yes, I passed it with a 90, but it wasn’t easy.”
“Hahah you passed it, but you don’t like it?” Nico asked. “I have science next Natural Science to be exact.”
“Me to. See you guys for lunch.” I said as we all went our separate ways except for Nico, who followed me to class. We went inside and sat at a lab table.
“This school is big,” Nico said, sitting down.
“You get used to it. Also, what happened to your school? I have heard many different stories,” I asked curiously.
“None of your business,” the guy from first period said, sitting down in the seat across from Nico.
“That’s rude,” I commented.
“Don’t care,” he said with a pissed-off tone.
“Brother,” Nico growled.
I looked at Nico and then at the other guy. They did look similar and the more I looked between them, the more I noticed, and then a lightbulb went of ‘Holy s**t these two guys are twins.’
‘Why are you being nice and cozy with this chick?’
‘Trying to be nice.’
‘Yeah right. Fess up.’
I was able to hear their thoughts, and they were not being nice and also staring each other down. “So, are you two going to just stare at each other or kiss and make-up?” I asked, trying to play dumb.
They both wiped their heads to look at me. Nico smirked and the guy who he was calling his brother was glaring at me.
‘Now you get to see why I am spending time with her.’
‘I hate women that have attitude.’
‘She doesn’t have attitude. She is interesting, that’s for sure though.’
“Why would I kiss my brother? That would be weird.”
“I never said it had to be on the lips. I thought siblings normally get along. Yet you look like you want to rip his head off?”
“Siblings fight.”
“Okay, whatever you say,” I said, holding up my hands in surrender.
“Catrina, this is my brother Dean. Dean this is Catrina,” Nico said, introducing me to Dean.
“Well, at least one of you has manners. Nice to meet you Dean....... I think,” I said, trying to be polite. The teacher came in then and class started, and Dean stayed seated at our lab table across from Nico. Which made the whole class period uncomfortable since Dean kept looking between me and his brother weirdly. I am ready for lunch so I can get away from Dean. I don’t mind Nico since he is nice to me and my friends, but I’m not sure if I like Dean.
Nico tapped my leg halfway through class. I looked at him, and he passed me a piece of paper. I opened it, and it said, ‘I am sorry about my brother. Just ignore him.’ I looked at him, then Dean. I gave him a thumbs up and just went back to listening to the teacher.
