CHAPTER 005

ENZO'S POINT OF VIEW I stood up and embraced my mate while saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." Oh, she was furious. And damn, it was hot. Our strategy was daring and possibly deceitful but it delivered the desired results. She exited her room and after meeting her parents she became very angry while looking outrageously attractive. Mission accomplished. Her mother was overjoyed about her settling down and her father was eager to share her Alpha partnership with everyone. They showed no real interest in our status as top athletes. Human sports were considered insignificant within her pack. My preparation with Thiago for a persuasive speech during our entire car ride was pointless because it failed to impress her dad. His primary interest was in displaying her baby photos instead of talking about our accomplishments. She responded with a tight smile while holding back her emotions as her dad looked through an old photo album. "This picture here is my favorite," Thiago said while indicating one particular picture. "The potty-training struggle is real." Her dad laughed, shaking his head. She arrived after the time had passed. We laughed with him. The sound of her audible growl triggered my deepest level of arousal. The whole journey had become an unusual form of foreplay. Her two-hour confinement in the car left her completely helpless. Scoring the winning touchdown couldn't match this experience. Her mother casually stated she left her phone at her sister’s house after we arrived. Her dad did not even own one. So, there was no warning. Everything had fallen into place perfectly. "Inside. Lily forced out the words "Now," through clenched teeth as her voice trembled with furious intensity. I glanced at her parents. The parents were beaming because they were too excited to notice her anger. "I'll do anything for you, sweetheart," I declared while leading her inside. Thiago followed closely and his excitement seemed to radiate from him. We needed her to shift. The moment she started the transformation process her wolf would assume complete control and any resistance would disappear. She would have to accept us. The action felt somewhat like we were removing her ability to make choices yet this was simply the way things functioned. You could not fight fate. She wanted our acceptance so why postpone what was bound to happen? The kitchen welcomed us while her mom finished making lemonade which we helped to prepare during our talk about Lily's childhood. Lily achieved excellent academic results without participating in sports and led a serene life throughout her pre-college years. Her mother expressed displeasure about Lily's recent dating frequency but trusted it would cease from now on. She trusted that we would become her suitable partner. A heart attack would probably ensue if she learned about our past. Do you two have any sense whatsoever? Lily snapped, shoving Thiago back a step. He smirked and crossed his arms. Thiago expressed his admiration through the telepathic connection by saying she becomes incredibly attractive whenever she gets angry. I agreed with no objection in my mind while contemplating the extent to which we should pressure her. Thiago had no limits. He would cross any line without hesitation. I tested limits as well but I stopped at the right moment. I knew when things were too much. "We just want to meet your family," Thiago said, his grin evident. "We already told our parents about you. Finding out you had hidden us broke our hearts, sweetheart. I laughed, shaking my head. He was such a liar. When she learned about us she got so excited she wanted to meet us right away. Our parents had started planning a welcoming party for her at the packhouse. "Hiding you?! It has barely been a day! I still cannot even... Ugh! Males!" she threw her hands up in frustration. Something inside me snapped. Her breathless and overwhelmed state affected me deeply. My body demanded more. The heat from my skin made my thoughts spin as I longed to taste her. She was not even dressed up. Her hair appeared untamed as if she had spent the night sleeping. She looked so incredibly sexy that she became the most attractive woman I had ever seen. I liked maps. I liked knowing every curve and detail. My current need was to retain every aspect of her form in my mind. "Kiss her. She will become receptive to us when she senses us," my wolf Gael advised me. Our wolves had always shown us differences since time began. The discovery of our mate initiated an internal change. Moving forward I placed my hands on her waist to pull her close. A hint of surprise danced across her eyes as her lips parted slightly. With my right hand I moved to her face as I gently cupped her cheek. And then, I kissed her. Thiago wished to determine who would kiss her first yet I persuaded him to allow her choice. He remarked that holding back for her decision could result in us never acting. I gave that consideration more time than I should have. My wolf agreed with him. "She needs to discover what she's missing," Gael pressed me forward with his words. Her body remained rigid without any response to my kiss. She didn't push me away. That had to count for something, right? My whole body came alive. Our breaths mingled, our chests pressed together. This was what fate had given me. This was mine. "Jealous?" I teased Thiago through the mind-link. "d**k. You would have criticized me for going too far if I had kissed her first. Your sweetness has exceeded any level I could have shown. "I can be sweet," he muttered. I took a small step back and encountered her enormous pupils. She was speechless. Lily Nunes. The mouthy reporter. Speechless. That was a win. "Compliments. Gael remarked smugly as he said everyone desires compliments. Good point. I wondered whether she would trust my words or respond with a slap. Stroking her hair I told Lily "You are beautiful" while keeping my eyes locked with hers. Lily took my hand into hers but immediately pushed it off. She retreated backward to press against the refrigerator while her frown penetrated me. "This was low," she whispered, voice tight. "Coming here like this. I cannot believe you did this." Thiago stepped closer as he remarked that they would never communicate with us. "We had to take action." Which part of your primitive mentality convinced you this approach would solve anything? This just made everything worse." "Are you embarrassed by us?" I asked, tilting my head. I could not accept that. How could she be? Our roots were based in a robust family that operated as a formidable pack. We were smart, successful, and respected. The people back home were real. The people back home showed genuine interest in our true identities rather than our social standing. Our father ran a highly successful construction company while my brother and I pursued architectural design degrees with business minor concentrations. As a dreamer I excelled at drawing anything and visualizing the bigger picture. Thiago naturally served as our family's spokesperson and sales expert. Without hesitation he could sell ice to an eskimo because he had such convincing sales skills. His talent with people was remarkable as he worked alongside dad to manage hiring processes and HR tasks. He just got along with everyone. At 15 years old our younger sister Bianca was still too young to offer significant help. She was more into computers, graphic design. I practice drawing by using pencil on paper which is not her preferred technique. The majority of females lack interest in this area yet my parents supported her involvement. We would take action to demonstrate to Li that she can achieve everything she desires. "She doesn't know any of that," Gael told me. "She would if she read our interview. The one we spent hours perfecting." "Not embarrassed. Just... "I can't seem to understand this yet," she said as tears welled in her eyes. "I have dreams, ambitions. I refuse to spend my days in packhouses making sandwiches and cleaning up noses. I want to work. I want to live in the city. I want my own identity." A tear slipped down her cheek. The growl from Gael resounded in my chest as she demanded my comfort. Her request remained unfulfilled by my actions. Neither could Thiago. This was her fate. She had career opportunities but city living was impossible for her. She could not live... without us. "So what happens now?" she whispered.
