CHAPTER 003

1214 Words
THIAGO'S POINT OF VIEW It was obvious that the Goddess would choose us a partner who had a fiery temperament. She understood perfectly what my brother and I needed from a mate. We would not employ any girl who demonstrated a lack of strong will. She had to face challenges and then learn to be tamed. Doing that was something I was eager to begin immediately. Lily Nunes. She possessed breathtaking beauty which caused everyone to turn around whenever she entered a space. My first encounter with her was last night although her name had been circulating among my friends. I understood her reputation because I knew she recognized ours. When she entered our party I felt an overwhelming urge to claim her by force but managed to restrain myself. Without Enzo's interference I would likely have taken action. Her hasty departure didn't stop me because I was fully committed to running after her to assert my position as the Alpha. "You are being an i***t. You cannot treat her like that. The wolf within me, Bruno, growled out that I wouldn't allow a man to behave like that toward our sister. "Quit being Enzo right now and let me handle this situation." My twin was someone I loved even though he often acted like a buzzkill. He wanted to give her space when he went to bed last night. She got nine hours. That was more than enough. My wolf was raging. He needed her—needed to claim her. My father never stopped questioning when the day would come when Enzo and I would prove ourselves capable leaders. The uncertainty about our readiness should now be gone since we found our mate. Our pack needed a Luna and we discovered ours. But could the Almeida brothers commit? Would we be able to leave behind every other woman? Could she? The moment we discovered her presence acted as a catalyst. There was no other option. Every other girl blurred into nothing. I desired her in inexplicable ways from the very beginning. Within an hour of their first encounter my parents became marked and mated. Most couples did not wait. The pull was too strong. Her wolf had to be going crazy. She was just fighting it. "She will be ours soon. You need to get her to shift. Bruno caught me off guard when he stated her wolf would instinctively know the necessary actions. I liked that idea. Her wolf would take control and remove her ability to fight us. As she consumed the breakfast we provided, it was clear her kitchen was completely bare. She probably never cooked. How did a she-wolf not cook? I had mastered cooking on a stove. I must admit that I had spent many hours secretly entering the packhouse kitchen to help the staff. Does our rejection need to happen before you even acknowledge us? I finally asked, breaking the silence. She placed her fork down and faced me while her expression remained impossible to interpret. She expressed gratitude for breakfast before standing up to wash her plate in the sink. "That is it?" Enzo asked, touching her arm lightly. My fists tightened from the surge of jealousy as she touched him. Though we were both her mates it felt foolish yet I wanted her to touch me. We had shared numerous women previously but they never held any significance. They existed solely as diversions because girls desired our identity and status. This was different. "Yes. I have things to do. She pulled back her arm while shooting back, "I have other things to do that don't involve entertaining donkeys." I blinked. Did she just call us donkeys? We should create a sweet nickname for her. My mind-link message to Enzo suggested that this nickname would push her over the edge into insanity. He smirked, catching on immediately. Reliable sources confirm that your team needs us. Maybe try being a little nicer. I told her that smiling wouldn't hurt her but I knew it would drive her crazy. She tensed up while her mouth formed a thin, rigid line. She hated being told what to do. That was obvious. "Actually, yes. My boss has requested an interview with you for The Daily Whisper," she said while handing him a folder. I laughed. She made this too easy. "Looks like you are in luck, beautiful. You will soon discover how much I enjoy discussing my own life," I said with a playful grin while extending my arms. "That statement ranks as the most truthful thing you've spoken," she retorted while crossing her arms. She thought she was cute. She needed to learn her proper role in this situation. I calmly declared that the most sincere statement I have ever made involves making your screaming of my name the sole memory you retain. Enzo tensed beside me. We both experienced the sudden electric charge in the space between us. Lily opened her mouth but remained silent. I had already used rejection as a threat against her. I despised resorting to such tactics yet it was essential for her to realize that we wouldn't leave her behind. The harder it became to picture myself walking away from her as I continued to observe her. My attention would now rest completely on her. Football no longer mattered. Nothing else did. She displayed perfection from the very start of the day. The majority of female students on campus were likely unconscious from the previous night’s festivities. But not Lily. As fiery as ever she prepared herself to face the whole world. I paid close attention to her every movement while noting each subtle sign of doubt. She disliked being out of her element yet displayed enough stubbornness to pretend she was unaffected. Fine. I agreed to give her that concession at this moment. Enzo handed me the file when I extended my hand. I opened the document to examine the listed questions. She smiled as she reflected on the fact that even a caveman knows how to read. My GPA was perfect I stated as I entered the living room beyond her. I achieved perfection since I had people taking notes for me although that fact held no significance. Enzo followed behind while both of us settled down. We were not leaving anytime soon. What process did you follow to find an apartment on your own? Enzo asked, noticing the single bedroom. The campus had only a limited number of one-bedroom apartments available. Acquiring one required personal connections. I noticed Lily's lips forming a tight line as she silently weighed her options about whether to respond. "You don't deserve an explanation, donkeys," she said with a huff before she stormed into her room and slammed the door shut. Enzo chuckled, shaking his head. I smirked, leaning back against the couch. I’m going to interpret that as a confirmation she found the right partner. Enzo gave me a cautionary glance yet I refused to retract my words. Because I was right. The time had come for me to discover the depth of her secrets. Who was responsible for setting up this situation she found herself in? And more importantly— What lengths would she go to in order to keep that secret hidden?
