Medical Volunteers AssociationNear the end of her first year of university, Francesca was wandering around Venice when she stumbled upon the Medical Volunteers Association’s headquarters and went in for the first time.
This association was present in many different countries and it was made up of doctors and nurses who dedicated their free time to aiding people in the world’s most remote locations. It existed thanks to donations and what funds could be gathered through charity events.
The following summer, after she’d taken her exams, Francesca spent three weeks in a field hospital in Lebanon. The patients were all refugees, mostly Syrian. It was a life-changing experience which finally gave her a sense of purpose.
