“You still love your ex-husband, don't you?” Cain Lawrence asked quietly. But the words sounded more like a statement than a question to me. We were on our way home to Phoenix Manor when Cain spoke for the first time after leaving the fancy restaurant. He'd been noticeably quiet while we were dining. But despite his silence, I could feel him watching me silently, lost in his thoughts. The remark rendered me speechless for a good thirty seconds. Finally recovering my scattered wits, I slowly turned to him, but Cain didn't look back. His intent eyes were focused on the highway as he drove. “Why did you suddenly ask?” I inquired, wondering why he had made the remark out of nowhere. “Because I saw the way you looked at your ex-husband when you thought I wasn't watching you,” he whispered.
