I awoke to the sound of the bedroom door opening. I didn't stir, pretending to still be asleep. I kept my breathing heavy while I strained my ears, listening to Cole shuffle drunkenly around the room. Another night he had stayed out until well past two AM. I felt the blankets being pulled around, then felt the mattress sink down with his weight. I closed my eyes and tried to drift back to sleep when I felt Cole's arm snake around my body. His hand ran up my shirt, resting on my bre.ast. I stayed motionless as he massaged my chest.
"Are you awake?" He murmured as he rolled my body over to face his.
"I am now." I sighed and tried to roll back over.
Cole continued to massage my bre.asts, keeping me pinned on my back. He moaned as his hand trailed down my stomach, resting between my thighs. He bent down, pressing his lips against mine. My nostrils filled with the scent of his alcohol and I felt my stomach turn with disgust.
"Cole." I sighed, placing my hands against his chest, trying to push him away.
A wide grin spread across his lips as he straddled me.
"Cole, not tonight." I groaned. I wasn't interested in getting dirty with him, and hadn't been for some time. He was banging Maggie at every chance he could get.
"Can't I make love to my woman?" He growled as he buried his face in my neck, sucking the soft flesh between his beer stained lips.
"Not while you're sleeping with her." I quipped. He released his hold on my neck, propping himself up over me. I could see his eyes flicker even in the pitch black of the room. Butterflies filled my stomach as I awaited his response.
"I haven't slept with her for a while." He said and I was amazed that he could utter a solid statement through the alcohol haze.
"Cole, I feel every time you sleep with her. It hurts, more than just emotionally. It's absolutely gut wrenching. Plus, I know she sleeps with anything on two legs, I really don't want to contract some sort of disease." I knew I should just keep my mouth shut, but my brain told me to say the words.
"She doesn't have a disease, and if you can feel it, you should know I haven't been with her."
"Today." I muttered under my breath.
Cole grinned as he ignored my protests. I gave up trying to stop him. He wasn't going to take no for an answer, and to be honest, I still loved him. Even after everything he was putting me through. I was leaving soon, and this would be the last time I would ever be with this man. I tried to enjoy myself as Cole slipped me out of my pants, his lips traced up and down my neck. He sat up, removing my panties. I moaned as arousal overtook my body.
It was hard to resist him. I loved him, and wanted to make things work. But I wasn't going to be a mistress. I was done being embarrassed as he paraded around with his lover, still pretending that I had no idea. I gave in to his advances almost every time. I wanted us to work. I wanted us to be that perfect couple. I hoped that we would someday. I hated that I gave in to him. But love clouds your judgement and makes you do stupid things sometimes, even if I would regret it in the morning.
Cole pulled my legs towards his body as he slammed his member into me. I lay in front of him, watching him ram into me repeatedly. I reached for the nightstand and pulled out my vibrater. It had been months since I had been able to climax with Cole. I found that I had to use a toy to help me out. He was always only focused on himself, and it left me fending for myself. He threw his head back, staring at the ceiling, moaning as he continued to thrust his hips. I turned on the vibrater, pressing it against my c**t.
No sooner had I done that, did Cole spill his seed deep in me. I sighed as he got off me, rolling over and instantly falling asleep. I rolled my eyes and finished myself off. I placed the vibrater back in the drawer and headed for the shower.
I awoke the next morning to find Cole still passed out next to me. He would most likely be nursing his hangover all day. I grabbed my laptop and headed for the kitchen. After making myself some breakfast I sat down, going through the help wanted ads. I came across a couple new positions and sent off my resume. My phone began to ring and I picked it up, not recognizing the number displayed on the screen. I usually didn't answer calls from people I didn't know, but being as I had sent off so many resumes, I thought I should really answer this one.
"Hello. This is Stella." I put on my best professional voice.
"Hi Stella. This is Clint. I received your resume and wondered if you had a moment to talk."
"Absolutely." I grinned.
My heart raced as I spoke with Clint. He asked me a series of questions, and explained the job to me. I had applied for a position as an administrative assistant at a fashion house. I had a degree in fashion and business I had obtained from college. My goal was to start my own fashion line. That goal was thwarted after I got with Cole, however. Being Luna had taken most of my time, and not allowed for me to start my own business. I had been making clothing for myself and some of the women in the pack for a while now, and was really wanting to pursue my dream now that I was starting my life over again. Clint had wanted me to come in for an interview in a couple of days. I wasn't sure if I could get away, but I knew I needed to try. Cole would most likely be occupied with Maggie and wouldn't notice if I was gone.
I cleaned up breakfast and quickly booked a ticket for a flight. I giggled as I closed my laptop. It was actually happening. If everything worked out, I would soon be moving and leaving this awful place behind me. I did feel bad for the pack members though. The thought of having her as their new Luna was leaving me regretting my plan. She had no leadership skills. The only thing she knew how to do was party and steal other people's husband's. She couldn't manage money and was always begging for Cole to pay her bills for her. She showed up late to work on a daily basis and absolutely didn't want to be a mother. I knew Cole wanted an heir, and I doubted that Maggie could give him one, or would give him one. She had mentioned on more than one occasion she had no desire to be a housewife or a mother. She wanted to party and enjoy life, something that couldn't be done with kids. I know that was the attraction Cole had with her. I wasn't a party person. I was into being responsible, taking on my pack duties and being an adult. My days for partying, staying out all night, were long gone. In a sense, I was boring. I was the responsible female who always had a clean house and a hot meal on the table for when Cole returned home. It was easy to see the appeal she presented to him.
I had to get packed up and ready to go. My flight was tomorrow. I was going to fly in and search for housing in the area the day before the interview. I was scheduled to fly home directly after the interview. I didn't want to be gone too long. Cole would notice if it was more than a couple of days. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl as I bounded up the stairs and began packing for my trip.

The interview went well. Clint had really been impressed with me and my work as Luna. Clint was human, and I couldn't tell him I was a werewolf, running a pack. I put down that I was COO of a multi million dollar company, listing off my Luna duties and accomplishments. He was very impressed with my business skills and had decided to give me a chance. I was ecstatic. Things were working out, and a lot faster than I thought they would. I drove around town yesterday looking at several rental properties and homes for purchase. I had seen an adorable little cottage type house on the outskirts of town. I had some time before my flight and decided to get a hold of a realtor and walk through the house. I sat in the driveway, waiting for her to show up. The house was a small white cottage with a white picket fence out front. The lawn was checkered with yellow patches in between the green and the shrubs were overgrown and in need of some tlc. Two bright pink rose bushes stood in front of the home, which was in desperate need of paint.
My admiration was interrupted by a soft knock on my window. I looked over to see a slender redhead standing outside of my car. Her bright red lips curved in a warm smile. She held a clipboard against her black skirt suit, her black heels digging into the gravel on the driveway.
"Hello, are you Stella?" She extended her hand.
"I am." I grasped it in a strong handshake.
"Lola." She beamed. "Shall we go inside?" I followed her up the rickety steps and waited as she used her phone to unlock the front door.
"Now, it has been empty for some time, and definitely needs some work. It isn't in the best shape, but its a cute home and with the right person would really shine in its original glory."
I stepped inside and took in the home. The living space backed up to a set of doors leading to the backyard. It had a formal dining area, a spacious kitchen with a kitchenette, a mud room, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was dirty, the carpet and hardwood needed to be replaced and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint, but it wasn't anything that would be too hard to accomplish. Lola showed me through a door in the mud room, which led to a small single car garage. The backyard had a small shop, a garden area which was overgrown with weeds and a luscious grass backyard.
"It's perfect." I said to Lola.
"Great. Did you want to make an offer?" She scribbled some things down on her clipboard.

"Where have you been?" Cole said as I crept in the front door. I thought for sure he would be out with Maggie tonight and was shocked to see him sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for me.
"Out." I said as I brushed past him.
"For two days?" He followed me up the stairs and to my room.
"Yeah. I went to see a friend." I said in half truth. I didn't want to lie to him, but couldn't let him know what I was up to.
"Why didn't you say anything?" His voice grew angry.
"You were out." I kept my voice calm as I placed my purse in its spot in the closet, removing my jewelry and gently placing it in its place.
"You should have told me."
"I figure you'd be busy. You've been out with the guys every night for the last few months, I didn't think you'd notice that I wasn't here." I glared at him. He knew exactly what I meant and huffed as he left the house. He was still trying to pretend that I didn't know.
I smiled in victory as I watched him stomp out of the room. He very rarely argued with me. The last time we argued I called him out on having a mistress. He swore he would end it with her. I knew he hadn't. They kept things quiet for a while before going back to being so careless with her. He knew an argument would only lead to me accusing him of sleeping with her, and that was a conversation he didn't want to have. Ever since I called him out on sleeping with her he ignored a lot of what I did. He didn't say anything about the shopping sprees I went one, and gave me whatever I wanted. It was his way of making up for what he did. Buying me off I suppose. It worked for a while. I had a new wardrobe, expensive designer purses and shoes, designer jewelry, but eventually the fun of spending his money wore off.
I sighed in relief as I carefully unpacked my bag. I was glad he didn't try to argue or press me for more information. He had no clue I was leaving, and didn't care what I did. He didn't want to be with me anyway. I wasn't worth his time. I heard the front door slam closed and knew he was on his way to see her. I didn't care though. I was almost free. Tomorrow I would visit the elders and see about breaking the mate bond.
