Kayla was seated on the ground in the park playing with sand as other children run around, she has already secluded herself from everyone at a very young age she would rather play alone than try to use the slide with other kids because she knew she would get mocked, other kids made fun of her because she was a chubby girl with a round face, anytime she would try to hang out with her classmates they would dismiss her by calling her fat and ugly.
“Move fatso” A kid around her age shouted at her as he ran after a soccer ball, as she was trying to exit the area hurriedly, the kid meet up with the ball and kicked it straight right at Kayla she let out a loud shriek as the ball hit her right on her face all the kids around busted out laughing as she shouted in pain, she stood up from the ground and tried to defend herself.
“Apologize for what you just did,” she said to the boy who shot a ball at her face “For what, not my fault your fat face was in the way,” he told her making all the kids now gathered burst into laughter again.
“I won't leave until you apologize” she insisted stomping her foot “Oh really how about this,” he said pushing her to the ground, she scattered are legs on the sand as she let out a shrieking cry. The kids including the boy who pushed her Jake laughed to their heart content before ignoring her and returning to what they were playing with.
She dusted herself still crying and walked up to her sister who was having fun with her friends, rubbing her nose she said
“Can we go home now Sasha” All the girls stopped talking and turned around to look at Kayla
“Ugh your sister is here again what does she want now” one of the girls groaned “Kayla what do you want?” Shasha asked “Let's go back now I don't want to play here anymore,” Kayla said stomping her feet.
“You promised to come to the park if I give you that chocolate bar and I did, so wait a little,” Sasha said
“But you just left me alone by myself what do you want me to do, you won't even play with me” Kayla pouted
“I don't know make friends,” Sasha said
“Sasha are you coming we are going to get ice cream” one girl called out
“Just play around I would be right back in an hour and don't go home,” Sasha told Kayla
“I want ice cream too can't I come with you?” Kayla asked tugging on her sister’s shirt
“Here,” Sasha said handing her a candy bar “I will get yours for you” she added before running off to meet her friends.
Kayla watched as she walked away with friends leaving her all alone. Sasha has been all Kayla have she was her only sister and also her best friend but now that Sasha started having friends she has been less and less time with her little sister, their mom is the only one around to take of them and their father died a few months ago right before they moved here, all the memories she has about him are in pieces.
Kayla ripped the pack of the candy bar and smiled so brightly as she took the first bite of it.
“You really like it?” a little girl around the same age as Kayla asked her
“Uhuummm” Kayla nodded in agreement, “It is my favorite ever, do you want some?” she said pointing to the candy bar to the girl, the collected and took a bite from it and Kayla winced internally as she didn't expect her to take it, Kayla is not one to share her food or snacks with anyone she love them so much to let anyone else take from it but right now is different because she is lonely and needed someone to play with.
“What is your name,” Kayla asked the girl
“My name is Jess” she replied
“Are you here alone?”
“My brother dropped my cousin and I off, he promised to be back before 6 pm”
“Who is your cousin?” Kayla asked
“That one” Jess pointed to a boy wearing a green shirt chasing another boy
“Um, your cousin is Jake?” Kayla asked shocked
“Yea I know, he is a douche bag” Jess sighed and Kayla nodded in affirmation
“He was my best friend but now he doesn’t even what to play with me” Jess added
“Boys are jerks,” Kayla said, they both busted out laughing
“My sister is my best friend, we even do everything together,” Kayla told Jess
“Why are you here alone then?” Jess asked
“I was here with her but she went out with her friends,” Kayla said almost whispering the last part
“That is how it all starts, making new friends, calling you a baby, and telling you to make friends too…” Jess was listing when she noticed Kayla’s face dropped she was visibly sad
“Don’t be sad” Jess tried to cheer her up
“If I don’t play with Shasha, who would I play with no one wants to be my friend” Kayla teared up
“I can be your friend if you want?” Jess asked
“Really?” Kayla's face lit up “You would be my friend?” She asked again
“Yes, I would be your friend” Jess replied
They gave each other big hugs and ran around the park playfully.
