CHAPTER 14

"Whew! That was close! " Bridgette said, while catching her breath. She became the center of attention at that party against her will. If not for that strange, arrogant man, she’d be on her way to Hounslow already. "No! This was all Daddy’s fault! If he hadn’t tricked me into going home, I'd never be in this mess! ’ Bridgette was furious because of what her dad did to him. The memory of what happened a few days back came rushing back to her as she sat behind the bush on this dark road, hiding from that strange man. Did you enjoy the food? Troy asked Bridgette after they both finished a platter of green salad. They’re at a lettuce farm a few miles away from Westminster. Troy decided to bring Bridgette here because they’ve been eating unhealthily, and based on what Chelsey said, due to her hectic schedule, she only eats premade foods nowadays. Bridgette seemed to like the place. Fresh air, fresh foods, and Troy’s company. This is the first time I've actually been to this kind of place. I really like the ambience. She was grinning from ear to ear as she said that. Troy smiled back. For him, one of the best decisions he made in his life was to take this woman into his life. Bridgette is such a breath of fresh air. His whole life was chaotic; it was the first time he was able to enjoy life. That’s good enough for me. I bought some for you to take home. Eat it instead of premade meals, "Troy said, with a serious look on his face. "Chels! That wench," Bridgette murmured. Don’t blame her. I offered her two front-row seat tickets for the Premier League just so she’d tell me things about you, "Troy explained. Bridgette gave her a questioning look. Things about me?! " I knew it. You’re a spy, or a police officer, or something! " She said that with a serious look on her face, but she’s just really kidding. "Hey, I’m worse than that," As a response to her joke, Terrence gave her a knee-weakening stare. He might be telling the truth, but he’s not ready to tell her about his family and his real identity yet. "Troy Seige Evans!" Bridgette yelled and pouted in protest. Troy just laughed at her cute reactions. Just as Troy was about to say something, Bridgette’s phone rang. "Hello?" "What?! How is he?!" Alright, I’ll go there. Please take care of him." Bridgette’s face turned from happy to a nervous and worried look. It was their butler who called. He told her that his father had fainted and was rushed to the hospital. "Troy, I have to go." Bridgette was on the verge of crying. She was shaking and looked like she was about to faint. Troy rushed beside her. "Hey, what happened?Who was that? "he asked. "D-Dad. He was rushed to the hospital. He needs me, Troy! " Bridgette stood up and walked fast to the parking lot. She forgot her bag, her phone, and even their takeaways. Troy just brought all of those and followed her immediately. Troy took her to the hospital where Bridgette’s father was confined, but he insisted on staying outside the room and just waited for her there when he saw someone he needed to have a word with. Meanwhile, Bridgette entered the room and saw her father lying unconscious with several tubes and medical equipment connected to his body. His father stayed there for a week. Bridgette stayed by her father’s side until he recovered. On the day he was supposed to be discharged, he asked his daughter if she could go back to the mansion. Bridgette, filled with pity and guilt, agreed without saying a word. Everything went back to normal for them. It'd been several years since they sat down to dinner together. Bridgette tried so hard to forget their conflict. For her, what’s important is her father’s health. Until an unexpected thing happens. She had just come home from the shop when she saw their servants and bodyguards busy preparing for what looked like a special occasion. They’re setting up a stage and filling it with flowers. She approached one of them. "What’s the occasion?" she asked, but no one could tell her about it. They were just asked to prepare a venue, according to them. His father was nowhere to be found, so she just stayed in her room for a while. She was dead tired, so she fell asleep easily. Later in the evening, she was startled by a knock, followed by several footsteps and whispering voices. What’s happening? Why are you guys here? "she asked as three housekeepers entered her room carrying stuff. "Miss Bridgette, your father asked us to give this to you. He said to wear it and come down immediately. " They put three boxes on her bed. Bridgette opened them one by one. It’s a pair of ankle straps, open-toed silver heels, a light blue evening gown, and a gorgeous rose gold wired rhinestone crystal hair band. After looking at the contents of each box, she gave them a baffled look and said, "Are you still not going to tell me what’s happening downstairs?" The three just shrugged off their shoulders, gave her a bow, and left the room. Bridgette became suspicious, so she decided to sneak out of her room. She passed by her father’s room and overheard him talking to someone on the phone. The door was half-opened, so she peeked. "Everything’s ready here. She’s getting dressed now. Just come here and we can sign the contract later. Make sure Julius will also come so we can push through with the engagement party for Bridgette and Julius." She didn’t even bother to finish listening to the entire conversation. Once again, his father betrayed her. She hurriedly went into her room, grabbed her bag, cash, passport, her papers and some clothes, and stashed everything in her tote bag. She also took her round-framed eyeglasses and wore them as she dashed to the servant’s quarters. Good thing, everyone’s busy serving the guests, so no one noticed her sneaking in. She grabbed the nearest shabby clothes available. There are long blue sleeves and a long brown skirt hanging on the rack. She quickly put it on and shoved her clothes inside her bag too. She also changed her hairstyle. She put her hair in a bun and removed all her makeup. "Perfect!" She wanted to pat herself on the back. She looked like a different person now. She easily passed by the gate and out of the mansion without anyone suspecting her. She decided not to use her car either. Her mistake was that it’s already seven in the evening and she won’t be able to hail any cabs or cars on the road. Given her desperate situation, she just endured the dark and scary road and began walking, and that’s how she ended up in this situation when a strange masked man almost hit her and even took her to a party. That weirdo! Good thing I was able to escape him! ’ She hid behind the bush when she saw a familiar car and the driver in it. Why is he here?! " Isn’t he supposed to be at that party? ’ Bridgette tried to question herself about the masked man’s sudden appearance. She peeked out and noticed that he was driving really slowly, almost as if he was doing it on purpose. "Was he looking for me?" Bridgette whispered. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest when a cold thing landed on her foot. She bit her lower lip when she almost shrieked because of it. She opened the flashlight on her phone and saw a small frog. Good thing, the car was gone. She ran as fast as she could from the icky frog. She stopped running to catch her breath. She checked her phone and saw that she already had mobile reception. She immediately called Chelsey to pick her up, but she didn't pick her up. A couple of dials more and she gave up. She has no choice now but to call Troy. As soon as his phone rang, he immediately picked it up. So you’ve been set up by your father? How cruel, "Troy commented. She asked him to pick her up, and they’re on their way now to the train station. "Yes, Just when I started to trust him again, he betrayed me! " Bridgette said. You could hear the frustration and exhaustion in her voice. Thanks for picking me up. Chelsey wasn’t answering her phone, "she said shyly." Hey, the Premier League event? I gave her tickets. "Let me jog your memory," Troy replied jokingly. "Oh right, Sorry.Anyway, I’m going back to my old house in Hounslow. I never want to go back to this place again. " Her voice sounded like she had already made a decision and would never back out of it. "Yeah, you already said it over the phone." Troy let out a chuckle, making her confused. "What’s funny, Troy?" she asked. "Nothing. "What time does the train leave?" he asked. "Nine." Suddenly, he noticed that she was shivering. The temperature suddenly dropped, and the sky got dark. It looked like it was about to rain. He took off his jacket and put it over his shoulders. She was shocked and was trying to give it back, but she later gave in and just put it on. After all, it's really getting cold. When they arrived at the station, Bridgette bid goodbye. "Thanks for dropping me here," she said, smiling. Troy could see the sadness in her eyes as she said those words. Troy couldn’t bear the thought of not seeing her every day again, so he made a decision as he saw Bridgette turn her back away from him. "Bridgette, wait!" She stopped walking and looked back. Troy ran over and gave her a tight hug. “I’m going with you, Bridgette. Wherever you go, I want to be with you."
