chapter 1 Must marry him
Chapter 1 || Must Marry Him The room looked utterly messy. The bedsheet and pillows were out of shape. Even the stuffing from the pillows had scattered who knows where. On the dressing table, pieces of broken glass were scattered everywhere. All of this was the result of a woman who now sat at the edge of the bed, crying her heart out. Knock! Knock! Knock! A series of panicked knocks echoed from behind the door. “Xyla, please come out, sweetheart! Listen to what Daddy has to say first!” pleaded a middle-aged man from outside the room. The man, sitting in his wheelchair, kept knocking on his daughter’s door. His name was Sammy Sinclair. “No! I won’t open it unless Daddy lets me marry Damian!” shouted Xyla stubbornly, her voice full of insistence. Xyla Sinclair, a beautiful young woman who would soon turn twenty-two, was arguing with her father because he refused to let her marry the man she loved—Damian. Xyla was selfish, caring only about what she wanted. And because of that decision, she would soon taste the bitterness of life. “If Daddy won’t allow it, fine! I’ll just kill myself!” she threatened when she realized her father had remained silent. Hearing that, Sammy’s heart skipped a beat. Fear gripped him, terrified that his daughter would actually do something reckless. Xyla now stood holding a small knife in her hand. “Daddy, do you think I’m joking?!” she yelled furiously. “Alright. I’ll allow you to marry Damian,” Sammy finally gave in, surrendering to his beloved daughter’s demands. Creak! The door opened, revealing Xyla with messy hair and a pale face from not eating for three days—ever since Sammy had refused to accept Damian as his son-in-law. “Thank you, Daddy!” Xyla exclaimed joyfully, rushing to hug her father tightly. “You’re welcome, sweetheart,” Sammy replied softly. He was willing to do anything for her. Losing his wife to death was already more than enough pain to bear. “But first, we should eat,” Sammy coaxed her gently. “Okay. Aye, Boss!” Xyla saluted playfully. What’s so special about that man, Xyla, that you’d starve yourself for three days just to marry him? Sammy thought to himself. And so, a month later, Xyla and Damian officially got married. Every expense was covered by Sammy. As the CEO of a long-established electronics company, with palm plantations and vast assets overseas, wealth was never an issue for him. Xyla looked stunning in her ivory wedding gown that hugged her slim figure. Damian, equally striking, stood tall in a luxurious tuxedo matching his bride’s attire. The couple greeted their guests from the stage, while Sammy smiled in relief at the sight of his daughter’s happiness. “Sir, don’t you think this decision was a bit reckless? Marrying Xyla to a poor man like him?” asked Alex, the family lawyer, standing beside Sammy. “For my daughter’s happiness, I’d do anything. She’s the only one I have left in this world. I just pray her husband will be a good leader in their household. As for being poor—that’s not a problem. We can always help them,” Sammy replied calmly. “You’re right, Sir,” Alex nodded shortly. Meanwhile, a group of overdressed women approached Rose, Damian’s mother and now Xyla’s mother-in-law. “Wow, congratulations! You’ve got yourself a wealthy daughter-in-law now!” one of them remarked slyly, her eyes roaming around the luxurious wedding decorations. Rose smiled awkwardly, though pride still flickered on her face. “Yes, you’re very lucky. You do know how wealthy the Sinclair family is, right?” added another, a tall and sharp-faced woman, her tone dripping with arrogance. “I’m jealous. With a rich daughter-in-law, you’ll have no problem buying branded goods anytime you want,” chimed in a plump woman wearing glasses. “I’m not after that. All that matters is that she truly loves my son. That’s enough for me,” Rose answered simply. “You’re no fun at all!” the plump woman pouted. ••• The ceremony ended, and it was time for Xyla and Damian to leave in a luxury sports car—a wedding gift from Sammy. “Congratulations on your marriage, sweetheart,” Sammy whispered, planting a kiss on his daughter’s forehead. “Thank you, Daddy,” Xyla replied, hugging him tightly. “Please take good care of Xyla, Damian,” Sammy said, patting his son-in-law’s shoulders firmly. “Of course, Daddy. I’ll protect her with all my heart and soul. I’d never let go of a woman as precious as her,” Damian vowed. Sammy held back tears as he embraced Damian briefly. “I’ll hold you to that promise, Damian,” he murmured. Not long after, Damian started the engine, and the sports car drove off, heading to a five-star hotel. Guests and relatives waved goodbye, watching the couple leave for the next chapter of their journey. The hotel door opened to reveal a breathtaking view. A luxury suite overlooking the ocean at night. On the bed, rose petals had been arranged to form the word Love, adding a romantic touch to the atmosphere. “Please, come in, my princess,” Damian said tenderly, holding Xyla’s hand. Xyla blushed at his gesture. Without warning, Damian scooped her up in his arms bridal-style and gently laid her down on the bed covered with roses. “Who prepared all this?” Xyla asked curiously. “Who else? Obviously not me. Since when have I even been here?” Damian teased. “You’re so cheeky!” Xyla pouted before kissing him softly on the lips. “What? Isn’t it fine to be cheeky with my own wife?” Damian chuckled before kissing her back. He caressed her face gently before deepening the kiss, his fingers moving to unzip her gown. The kiss trailed from her lips down to her slender neck. Damian quickly shed his tuxedo, then pulled the blanket over them. “Now?” he whispered, breathing heavily. Xyla nodded shyly. Damian pressed a tender kiss on her forehead before continuing. That night became a night of bliss for the newlyweds. “Thank you, my love,” Damian whispered, wrapping his arms around Xyla from behind, planting kisses on her bare shoulder. No response. He peeked at her face. “Oh wow, you’ve already fallen asleep, huh?” Damian chuckled softly when he realized Xyla had dozed off. To be continued…
