Chapter 1: Homecation
"What's up with you?", she asked.
"I think I can feel, again", I smiled shyly.
"Don't tell me it's because of-", she squinted her eyes.
"Of him", I said, biting my lip.
"Ahah", she chuckled. "Tell me more"
"He is a dream"
"A dream or a nightmare?", she asked, warily.
Chills ran down my spine, my expression turning dry instantly. It slightly put me into thought. But before I could think anything else, I felt someone pull me from behind harshly into a dark space. A sharp silver knife aimed at my heart came into my view and it was all I could see. A hand wearing black gloves was slowly moving towards my heart. I screamed in terror and my vision now blurred due to tears falling heavily from my eyes. I closed my eyes shut just to feel the pain of my heart tearing, my screaming non-stop.
*Thud*
I opened my eyes again to find myself on my bed, tears on my cheeks and my pillow. That was such a f*****g weird dream, I sighed.
And what was that noise?
I rose up from my bed and rushed open my bedroom door. Nothing seemed wrong to me. It is probably not from my home. I strode towards my balcony stretching. I peeped down to see a moving truck with a mess of men trying to figure out how to lift a huge and seemingly heavy wooden table off the ground. It looks like it has been dropped abruptly from the truck, though it hasn't been damaged. That piece probably costs a fortune. I concluded that was the source of the noise and went back inside.
I washed up early to get ready for a brand new day resting at home. Yes. I decided to take a big fat leave for two whole weeks to stay free from work and its related stress. Being the part-time song artist I am other than my engineering job, I needed time off for inspiration and healing. These tarot readings are having an effect on me, in a positive way of course.
I filled my 2 liter water bottle and laid back on my comfy sofa. I scrolled though my messages. My friends suggested a solo trip to any of the nearby countries but I discarded that idea. That would have helped a lot, but this time, I just wanted to stay home and explore the town for real inspiration.
*Thud* again.
I strode towards my balcony again. Haven't they finished moving yet? I looked down to see a busy street with people leaving their homes. There was no sign of a moving truck. It must be from the building this time.
My bell rang, dragging me towards the door.
"I'm sorry but do you have a paper cutter", a middle-aged man who looked like a moving company employee asked me.
"Yes. Give me a moment", I said, heading back in to rummage through my belongings in the living room shelves.
I handed him the paper cutter and he left with a thank you. They better don't forget to get that back to me. I had only one in my inventory.
*Thud* again.
Yep. Whoever that is moved into this floor. What furniture do they even have? I mean I am the one to talk here. I probably gave the neighbors even a harder time moving in.
But I was never the biggest nuisance for sure. Until a week ago, a bachelor men duo stayed in the floor, and all the neighbors could hear were screaming moans and loud-ass music. They weren't indecent since they apologised pretty often and pretty politely, and tried to turn the noise down. But things didn't just work for them here. Soundproofing could have worked for real. I set it up in my apartment since I finally bought it last month.
The new tenants must be moving to that flat.
I turned my TV on for some morning news. I switched to YouTube after a while to watch space theories. My bell rang again in the middle of my video, causing me to pause it. I opened the door to an unfamiliar face with my paper-cutter in his hand.
"Thank you", he shoved the paper-cutter into my hand and left in a hurry without sparing me a single glance. I wondered if he even saw my face. I couldn't see his face either, since his eyes were glued to his phone and the scene unfolded just too fast.
I closed my door shrugging. One thing was for sure, he was good looking. But I couldn't bother less, since my romantic life is already so complicated.
Evening arrived and my appetite for rest was still heavy. My bell went off again. I ordered dinner just five minutes ago so there wasn't a chance that it would be my dinner.
I opened my door this time to the same guy from the morning, but only to get a clear view of his smiling face. He is breathtaking.
"I'm sorry, am I disturbing you?", he asked with a beautiful and soft speaking voice.
"No", I replied politely.
"I am your new neighbor, the one who borrowed your paper-cutter this morning", he said.
"Ah! I hope it helped", I said.
"Oh yes, it did", he said in relief. "I brought a little something since I couldn't say thank you properly in the morning", he smiled.
He was holding a small pack of mini doughnuts from Dunkin. He pushed his hand towards me.
"Ahh it's okay. You didn't have to do this", I smiled, snatching the packet from him anyway. I was getting real hungry.
"Are you here with your family? Seems like you had a lot of heavy furniture", I said.
"Oh, it's just my brother! He is an antiques enthusiast", he smiled brightly. My heart melted at once, not at the information but at the smile where his eyes shone bright like two big crystal balls.
I smiled back. He had the kind of smile which would want the opposite person to do the same.
"Thats interesting", I commented.
"See you then", he waved, parting.
"See you. Thank you for the doughnuts", I smiled, closing the door after him.
At least I got free food on the first day of my self-given holidays. But why does it feel like there's not going to be the peace I am expecting afterall.
