Pushing the limits

After dinner, Deacon took me to a guest room, and he stopped at the door. “This is your room, if you would like it to be. At least for now.” He said, shifting his weight from one leg to the other. “Where’s your room?” I asked. “Next door.” He pointed to the door on our right. “Can I see?” We walked to his room, and he opened the door. I stepped inside and gasped. The room was mostly grey with one dark blue wall where his king-sized bed was settled. One wall was half a window and half a bookshelf. I walked to the bookshelf and ran my hands over the cover, reading each one I touched. He told me he enjoyed reading. I walked around the room and walked through another door and there were rows and rows of books and a dark grey sofa settled in the middle of the room. “You’ve read all of these?” I asked. “Not all of them. The ones in my room are my favorites, so I read and reread those,” he said. “I read textbooks mostly. Things I needed to learn. It helps that I have a photographic memory.” I sighed “I always wanted to read just to read but they wanted a perfect wolf. Compliant, never sick, and indestructible.” “Indestructible?” he growled. “How?” “I don’t remember. Most of those tests were done on Athena. I just remember healing. I woke up and they told me that it was it. I was a success.” I shrugged. “Can I shower?” He nodded. He followed me back into his bedroom and pointed towards a door. I went into the bathroom and stared at the giant tub nestled in the middle of the room. Behind the tub was a shower that looked like it belonged in a locker room. I looked down at my dress and realized I didn’t have any clothes there. I must have taken so long to do something, because Deacon was knocking on the door. “Liah, is everything okay?” He asked. I opened the door, “I don’t have clothes.” He laughed, “Oh, is that all?” “Is that all? Deacon, I don’t have anything to wear. All of my clothes are with Dylan, at the lab.” I said sadly. I just got those clothes. “We can buy you new clothes.” He shrugged and walked out of the room. He came back and handed me a shirt and a pair of his boxers. “You can wear that for now. Tomorrow I’ll have Kyra take you shopping. Now go shower.” He left again. I take off the dress and fold it and lay it on the counter. I look at myself in the mirror, something that I was very rarely ever allowed to do. My hair was curly and long. Even in a ponytail it hung down to my butt, my eyes were a deep brown, I could still see the bags from all of the restless nights over the years. My skin was honey colored and had freckles sprinkled all over. I stepped into the shower and turned it on as hot as my skin could handle. I stepped under the water and felt all of my muscles relax. I let out a small moan at the feeling. I let the hot water run until I felt my skin pruning. Grabbing the shampoo, I quickly washed my hair and followed suit with the body wash. It smelled like Deacon and I smiled. After the water started to turn cold, I turned it off and grabbed a towel. I heard a knock at the door. “Liah, you’ve been in there for an hour,” Deacon said, opening the door and stopping, his eyes looking me up and down. “Uh, I’m sorry.” “It’s okay. You’re my mate, right?” I said shakily. “Yes. You are mine.” His eyes went black. I take a couple of steps towards him, and he growls, “Liah, don’t do this if you aren’t ready. I can wait. Not for very long, but I can wait for you.” He took a couple of steps back. “I’m not sure what I’m feeling, but I know you wouldn’t hurt me. I do have questions though.” “Get dressed.” He closed the door, and I felt my heart sink. Did he not want me? I got dressed and walked out of the room. He was sitting at the head of the bed leaning against the headboard. He opened his eyes and groaned. “You are going to be the death of me.” He smirked. “Why?” I c****d my head to the side. “Liah, you have no idea how you make me feel. It is hard for me to settle for holding your hand, or a kiss on your head. Even now I have to stay here and keep myself anchored to this bed.” He growled again. “What makes you think I don’t want more than a kiss on the head?” I said, trying to be sexy. “Liah,” he sighed, “You have been through so much in your life. I’m not going to push you into this. As an Alpha male, this is damn near killing me, but as someone who cares about you, I need to make sure you are completely sure that this is what you want.” “I’m not saying I’m ready for s*x, but I would be up for a kiss.” I looked down at my feet. I heard him jump off the bed and felt his arms around my waist a second later. He pulled my face up to look at him and I breathed in his scent. Being this close to him was causing a burning in between my legs. He smiled down at me and inhaled deeply. He leaned down and kissed me softly. I stood up on my toes and wrapped my arms around his neck. I moaned as his tongue swept my lips. I opened my mouth and allowed him to explore. He put one of his hands behind my head and pulled me closer to him. He pulled back after a few minutes and put his forehead on mine. Our breathing was heavy, and I pouted. “We need to stop. Or I will take you tonight.” He said softly. I opened my eyes and saw that he was smiling. “What’s funny?” “Oh, baby, there is nothing funny. I’m just happy. I am so happy. I just really think that we should go to bed because I have exerted all of the control I have for the night.” “Can I sleep here? I’ll sleep on the couch, but I just don’t want to sleep alone again. I’ve been alone my whole life.” I have spent the last 2 years sleeping like a wolf. I wasn’t sure I could sleep like my human self. “I’ll sleep on the couch.” He said, pointing to the bed. I went to bed and climbed in. It was like sleeping on a cloud. Then again, after sleeping on a cot for the last 10 years, I’m pretty sure sleeping on the rug would feel good. Deacon kissed me one more time on the forehead before going to the couch. I snuggled into his pillow, feeling his scent calm me, and I drifted to sleep.
