Deacon’s POV
When I heard everything that was done to Liah, I wanted to go find Dylan and tear him limb from limb. I wanted his blood to paint a wall. I wanted him to feel how she felt. I growled at the thought of her being in pain. Liah looked so beautiful running through the field without a care in the world. She was free and freedom looked good to her. When Kyra and I finally stopped fighting, I looked over and Liah was asleep. I wanted to let her sleep, so I curled up next to her. I laid my muzzle on her head and closed my eyes and napped with her.
“Deacon!” I felt my sister shaking me.
I growled at her and pushed her away with my head.
“It’s dinner time.” She said, still shaking my shoulder “I brought you clothes.”
I grunted at her and looked down at Liah. She was still sleeping peacefully. I nuzzled her neck, and she growled at me. Not a normal unranked wolf’s growl. She almost made me submit and Kyra flinched. I licked the top of her head until she woke up. She looked at me and smiled.
“Come on, lovebirds. Dinner is ready.” Kyra said. Handing us some clothes.
I took the clothes in my mouth and went to the closest tree to change behind me. She brought me a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and tennis shoes.
I walked out and stopped. Liah was dressed in a simple sundress that went down to her knees. She had her curly brown hair pulled into a ponytail. She was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. I pulled her to me and buried my face in her neck, taking in as much of her intoxicating scent as I could. Apples and vanilla. I took her hand and led her to the dining room. I felt her stiffen at the sight of all the other wolves. I rubbed a small circle in her hand, and she looked up at me and smiled.
My parents walked towards us and even though I knew it wasn’t their fault, I still blamed them. I growled. My mom gave me a warning glare.
“Hush.” She waved her hand at me “Now we didn’t get a proper introduction earlier. My name is Margret. This sweet man is Abram. I noticed you had met Kyra, of course, because they are twins, but over there.” She pointed to my younger brother and sister, “Is Ky, and that is Mya.”
“You have little siblings?” Liah asked.
“Yeah. Mom and Dad had me and Kyra first, then Mya, then Ky. For some odd reason, after having twins, they decided more children were necessary.” I laughed, knowing they could hear me.
Ky came over first, “Well they had to keep going until they got perfection.”
I playfully punched him, “Dude, I’m next in line, so everyone else is just pitiful for me being too good.”
“You’re only next in line because I was stuck behind your big head,” Kyra said.
“I don’t want to be Alpha. It’s too much work and then you still must take over the businesses and run those too. Plus, you basically are forced to push out as many babies as you possibly can pretty much on the first night.” Mya shrugged.
I felt Liah’s unease at the idea of children. We hadn’t even gotten the chance to kiss, let alone mate and mark each other. She didn’t know about our world. I was fighting Chace, my wolf, back at the idea of Liah rounding with my pups. I shook the image off.
“You, my little sister, are just enjoying the free ride of everyone else’s labor.” I ruffled her hair and she snapped at me.
We sat down for dinner. One of my favorites; steak, fully loaded baked potatoes and steamed broccoli. I dug in immediately but stopped when I noticed Liah, staring down at her food. Her brow furrowed. I gave her knee a small squeeze, encouraging her to try it. She put a little bit of the steak on her fork and took it in her nose and sniffed it. She put the small bit in her mouth and her face lit up. She cut a bigger piece and inhaled it. She looked at the potato and smiled. She ate the whole thing and looked at me. I smiled at her.
“Can I have more?” She asked, her eyes sparkling.
“Yes, my love, you can have as many steaks as you would like.” I said, waving one of the omegas over, “Please bring her another plate.”
The omega nodded and bowed to us. She quickly returned with another plate. Liah thanked her and dug back into her plate.
I ate my food and smiled as she finished her second plate. She looked at the cup and smelled it. She looked at me and questioned me.
“It’s champagne.” I said. “Mom and Dad wanted to make a toast. It’s a big deal for an Alpha to find his Luna.”
She put the cup down and her leg started to shake uncontrollably. I put my hand back on her leg and she stopped, “We don’t have to stay for the announcement. My parents will understand. I will understand.”
“No, it’s okay. If it’s that big a deal, then you have to stay. It’s your job, right? As the future Alpha?” She whispered.
“You are more important than any job, Liah.” I said back to her. “We can go.”
She looked at me, her eyes filling with tears and smiled. I put my hand on her cheek and smiled.
“No, we can stay.” She said.
At that moment, my dad stood up, cleared his throat and used his Alpha voice.
“Today is a day of great celebration! As you know, I am stepping down as Alpha as soon as my son graduates, in December. I am also pleased to announce that Kyra has been admitted to Yale for the Spring Semester” My dad beamed at her. “Deacon will be stepping up with both college and his Alpha duties, but it is with a full heart that I announce he has found his mate!” He began clapping and I stand up holding Liah’s hand in mine.
“Thank you, Alpha. I know I have a lot to learn from you; how to be a great Alpha, but also how to be an amazing mate. I hope that you all will accept me in my role as Alpha, but also accept Liah, as your Luna.” I said, smiling. “A toast to new beginnings and happiness to the retirement of our Alpha and Luna. Blessings from the Moon Goddess!” I lifted my glass and took a drink. I watched Liah take a drink and make a face. I laughed.
She smiled back at me, and I pulled her into my chest and kissed the top of her head. She was mine. I was not letting anyone keep her from me.
