Delilah's POV
I could feel Deacon’s pull and I knew he was close. I couldn’t let Dylan know. I lay on my bed for what seemed like days before I could feel someone at the back of my mind. I looked around the room, trying to see if there were cameras. Once I felt safe enough, I dropped the guard, and I felt an immediate sense of relief wash over me.
Baby, are you okay? Has he hurt you? He asked, trying to gauge if I was in pain.
No, I’ve been locked in a room on the second floor about 100 feet from the stairs.
We’re coming at nightfall. I’m coming to get you and you and I are going away. Just us.
I love you.
I love you too, baby. See you in a few hours.
I closed the link as someone unlocked the door. It was her. She was Dylan’s assistant. She very rarely ever said anything, just stood at the back and took notes. I noticed that she wasn’t wearing her usual lab coat and pencil skirt. She wore jeans and a t-shirt and she looked panicked.
“Are they coming?’ She asked.
I looked at her puzzled. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said.
“I know you can link even by being this far away from your mate. Are they coming?”
“Who are you?” I asked, wondering why she was there. She worked for Dylan. If I told her, then she would go back and tell him, and it would ruin the ambush.
“My father is Alpha Jacob. When I was young, they sent me to Dylan to be healed and Dylan told my parents that I was dead. He gave me something and I couldn’t move. I could hear my parents, but I couldn’t move. He told me if I ran, then he would kill my pack.” She cried, “I haven’t seen my father in 15 years.”
I looked at her and listened to her heart, trying to find any sounds of deceit. I looked into her eyes and I could see all the fear that she had been hiding.
“You’re Angel.” I said. I remember hearing the story of Alpha Jacob’s daughter and why he was so eager to fight Dylan. She was 10 when he was told she had died. His mate was heartbroken and though they had Jaxxon and Maddox, she was never the same. Deacon told me that she never left the pack space, not even for the Alpha and Luna conference.
“Yes. How is my father?” She asked, her voice dropping an octave.
“He’s here. With Alpha Deacon and Alpha Michael’s men. Deacon told me that they would be breaking the perimeter at night fall. Is Dylan still here?” I asked.
“No, he left early this morning. He isn’t coming back until morning. Liah, you need to know everything that he did to you. What we did to you.” She whispered.
“Now is not the time. How many other wolves are here?” I asked, opening my link.
“There’s 1500 rogues spread about a mile apart from the front door to the dam. Dylan has built his own army of wolves he ‘saved’ over the last 10 years. But Liah, they are powerful. More powerful than an Alpha. They can and will kill to protect him. He has about 50 here and 25 more with him wherever he is.”
I nodded. We needed a way to take them out. I started to pace the room, listening to Deacon and Alpha Jacob try to come up with ways to take out the wolves. Angel looked at me and opened her mouth and then closed it again. She stared at me intently and finally sighed.
“What?” I asked, impatiently.
“You don’t have to kill them to get them to listen to you,” she whispered. I could tell she wanted to tell me something but didn’t know how.
“If you have something to say, then you need to say it,” I snapped. Now was not the time to play games. Games would get people killed.
“After your Wolf came out, after Aurora died… Dylan told me you would be stronger because you were of alpha blood. I found out that your blood is now impervious to pretty much everything. Dylan used that blood to try to save other wolves. This last year has been spent giving your blood to other wolves. Saving their lives. Your blood runs through their veins.” She looked at me pointedly.
“Wait. What?!” I screeched.
You are an Alpha, my love. I felt Deacon’s smile.
“Since you came from alpha blood, and your blood saved their lives, they are blood bonded to you. What Dylan did not expect was, once we saved their lives, that their loyalty would be to their Alpha and not the mad scientist who created an Alpha pack. That’s why he stopped experimenting on you. He couldn’t have his army kill him. He had to put 5 down before he realized he had created a True Alpha. An Alpha to an all-Alpha pack. An Alpha that can make another Alpha submit.” She said. She looked down at the floor and fidgeted.
“So they have to follow my command?” I whispered. “Wait, if they are blood bonded to me, what did Dylan tell them to get them to agree to war?”
She kept looking down, “He told them that Alpha Deacon was coming to kill you.”
“HE WHAT!?” Deacon and I roared at the same time.
I closed the link and looked at Angel, “You need to tell me exactly what happened when I was a wolf. I mean exactly.” I commanded.
She told me everything that they did and by the time she was done she had tears streaming down her face. I sat blankly on the bed and tried to process everything. After 5 minutes, I could feel Athena whining.
I told you you didn’t want to know.
How are we still alive?
I couldn’t let you die. So I fought.
Athena.. I am so sorry. I am so sorry that you went through that. I am so sorry that I was too weak to be able to help you.
You were never meant to have me at such a young age. Your father still prays to the Moon Goddess. She comes to me and lets me hear his pleas. He still misses you, even after all this time.
I felt a tear roll down my face. I never knew who my parents were. I never got to meet them. I was always told that I was created in a test tube and grown in an incubator. I had actual parents. They loved me. They wanted me. They trusted Dylan to heal me and he told them I was dead and experimented on me. He cut me open again and again. He took my blood, my organs, my claws. He starved me and let me drown. He tortured me for years.
My blood was boiling as I stood up and began banging on the door.
