Deacon’s POV
When I realized that Liah was gone my heart dropped. I knew she had been feeling guilty about the war, and I was trying my best to keep her as far away from it as I possibly could. When I felt the mate bond stretch, I was flat out terrified. I didn’t know if she had run to them, or if someone in my pack had given her to him.
I felt the mate link and I breathed a sigh of relief. As foolish as it was, she was doing what she thought was best for everyone. She was putting our pack first. She was a Luna. I smiled. She gave me a rundown of where she was, what she could smell and hear. She told me that there were rouges surrounding the building. She made sure to tell me that she could hear the water in the dam. I ran to my office and pulled up a map of all the dams in the state. There was only one within 3 hours and I opened my link to my family and Sam.
Get to the meeting room. I said, closing my laptop and walking to the conference room.
I studied the maps while I waited for everyone to get in. Kyra was first. I could tell by her eyes that she had been crying. Following her, Jackson and Ky. Sam came in holding a breakfast burrito and a coke and plopped himself on the couch. I shook my head at him and went back to studying. Finally, my parents came in, Alpha Jacob right behind them and his Beta Joshua.
I got up to close the door and I pulled up the map of the area surrounding the dam.
“Liah, linked me this morning. She’s here.” I said, pointing to a small clearing of land about 30 miles south of the dam. “She said, she smelled rogues, roughly 300 or so, but he might have called in reinforcements. Jackson told Sam last night that they had pulled back. I think if we set up a camp here”, I pointed to another area surrounded by trees east of the clearing, “we might be able to surprise them and end this bastard once and for all.”
“Wait, what do you mean Liah linked you. The link only goes so far,” Ky said.
He wasn’t wrong. A normal link, whether pack or mate, only stretches about 30 miles or so. Liah was special.
“I don’t know, but she was. She sounded safe.” I said, “I would like to get our warriors up and on the move in an hour.”
My dad looked between me and the map. “Deacon, this could be a trap.”
“If we wait any longer, he could kill her. Or worse, go back to using her as a lab rat.” I spit back.
“Honey, you know how much we love Liah, but your father is right.” My mom said, her eyes filling with tears.
Alpha Jacob looked at me and nodded, “It wouldn’t hurt to do some recon. If you are unwilling to send men, then I will.”
“I’m going too.” Sam said, his face tight. He knew that if anything happened to Liah, he could die. As my best friend that killed him inside and as my Beta, he was willing to do anything to protect his Luna.
“Me too.” Kyra said, tears coming back down her face “I was supposed to stay with her, and I didn’t. Maybe I could have talked her out of it.”
Ky nodded, “You guys aren’t going to have all the fun.”
My dad looked at all of us and sighed, “Fine, Gamma Jackson, get the warriors ready. This is just a recon. If there is any change, I am to be informed first. Are we clear?”
We all nodded and began to plan. We were going to send roughly 50 warriors from our pack, plus 30 from Alpha Jacob's. We would leave Alpha Michael’s warriors close to home. After an hour of planning, Jackson linked me, telling me that the vans were ready and packed. We all went to the dining hall and the kitchen staff made us coolers of food and drinks. We loaded up and headed out.
I made sure to remember each turn and I smelled exactly what Liah described. I could feel the mate pull that let us know we were in the right place. We set up our camp around dusk and set 45 warriors out to set up a perimeter. Alpha Jacob and I both agreed that we would scout using drones. Ky set them up and we counted roughly 1200 rouges. I texted my dad our location, letting him know we would need reinforcements. I told him to send them out as wolves, as that many cars traveling the abandoned roads would alarm Dylan and he would either move Liah or worse.
I shuddered at the thought and began a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess.
I’m coming Liah.
