be okay

“I wonder how long he is going to stick around,” Kai mumbled, staring out of the glass pane. Zaiden pulled down the magazine from his face and darted at Kai before following his gaze and glanced outside. Observing Leo and Emma standing near the elevator, he narrowed his eyes. But after gazing at them for a while, he pulled up the magazine again and resumed reading the article written about him. “It was the second round. And here he goes for the third round,” Kai murmured again. Pulling the magazine a little bit down, Zaiden peeked again. He saw Leo walking downstairs with a gloomy face. When he shifted his gaze at Emma he noticed a grin on her face. “Poor guy, I think he is regretting the thing he chose,” Kai said, glancing down on the file. “What choice?” queried Zaiden casually. “Um! This morning when he answered my call late, I conceived about taking a test. So, I asked him to choose between his girlfriend and his job.” “He has a girlfriend?” he rumbled in a deep tone. “Yeah, it seems so. I heard her yelling at him while I was on a call with him.” Zaiden thought gravely for a while before asking, “So what was his answer?” “His answer was that he would choose what is important in this situation?” “Meaning?” Kai looked up at him in bewilderment, as Zaiden had never paid much attention to such small things before.  “What?” He raised his brows when he got his stare instead of the answer. “Nothing…” He shook his head right to left and answered his question, “he sounded like he is in desperate need of a job so he chose a job over his girlfriend.” Zaiden didn’t say anything further and buried his face behind the magazine again. Kai inhaled deeply looking down on the file again mumbling, “seems like he will not survive a week with Emma. After all, he pissed her off on his first day only.” “Pissed her off, how?” “He had no idea about who she was and she didn’t get a chance to flex in front of him. So this probably pissed her off and was not ready to keep him. Thanks to Beth that she was able to convince her to keep him.” Silence hovered around the office soon as Kai got back to reading the file and Zaiden sat peeking at the elevator, pretending to read the magazine. Time passed but Leo didn’t show up. He grew anxious wondering where he might be. Suddenly his eyes fall on him at the stairs climbing up.  As he got on his feet, Kai said out, “We need to land in Hawaii tomorrow afternoon for a charity event. Are you good to go? If not, I can cancel it.” Zaiden just nodded, not giving him an exact answer, and rushed out of the office. “What… what does that mean?” Kai knitted his eyebrows perplexed. “If not for the money I need I would give up the second seeing her evil attitude. How can she be so rude? Face beautiful as heaven but attitude worse than anything,” whining to himself, Leo finally stepped on the tenth floor. Sweat streaming down his forehead, he was panting. Pressing his hands against his knee, he tried to catch his breath for a while. When he got back to normal, he got up to walk but seeing Zaiden coming towards him, hastily he stepped aside and stood still. “Damn, why is he coming here?” he mused. He tried his best not to look at him but from his side-eyes, he saw that Zaiden’s eyes were fixed on him. He lowered his head and watched his shoes getting closer and closer. As Zaiden approached him, he raised his head their eyes met. Hastily Leo looked away. When he walked past him, he turned his head towards him but he ended up gulping hard seeing him standing an inch away. Zaiden’s eyes were fixed on his hands. When he looked down only then he realized that he was staring at the pads packet that he had brought for Emma. Hastily he took his hand back. He was about to walk away but Zaiden said out, “use the elevator.”   His cold tone sounded like a sweet rhythm as it drifted in the air and hit Leo's ear. Even though he didn’t want to obey he ended up nodding. Zaiden paced towards the elevator and got in. They stared at each other until the door was shut.  “Seems cold but is not actually cold,” murmuring to himself Leo walked to Emma’s office. As soon as he entered Emma questioned, “did you use the elevator again?”  “No, I didn’t…” he replied spontaneously. “I don’t trust you!” He looked sideways and took a deep breath. Then he reached out for the tissue paper and wiped the sweat from his forehead.  Then showing it to her, he said, “do you believe now?” “Eww! How disgusting!” She scrunched her face. “You asked for it,” he replied, placing the pads packet on the table in front of her.  Emma glanced at the packet and then at him. “Are you kidding me?” “What? You asked me to buy it, didn’t you?” He scratched the corner of his forehead. “Which era are you living in? Do you think I still use these ache and irritating pads during my period?” “How? How would I know what you would use?” “I told you to bring a tampon, not these damn pads,” she grumbled, folding her arms. “But you didn’t say that first.” She glared at him. Her wide eyes were enough to alarm him. “So he hastily said, “I will get it.” Restraining his wrath, he walked out of her office. As he was about to hike downstairs, Zaidne stepped out of the elevator with a coffee cup in his hand. Leo was about to walk but Zaiden spoke in a cold tone, “I told you to use the elevator.” “But…” Leo glanced towards Emma’s office.  He was already in a bad mood so he didn’t want to argue with Zaiden. He stepped towards the elevator and got on it. From the distance away Emma clenched her fist seeing him entering the elevator. “How dare he disobey me again?” she grumbled and called out Beth. Zaidan entered his office and placed the coffee on the table in front of Kai. Kai looked up in surprise. “Is that for me?” he questioned. Zaidan plunked on his chair without saying anything and grabbed the magazine he was reading a while ago. But Kai kept on staring at him. “If you don’t want it then just throw it away. Stop gawking at me,” he said with his eyes fixed on the magazine. Kai hastily grabbed the coffee and drank it. But it burnt his tongue. “God, Zaiden who drinks this hot coffee on this hot day?” he complained, scrunching his face in distress. Zaiden glanced at him. “You…” “Fine, fine… thanks for your effort. Please don’t make this kind of effort again. Or else you might end up losing your hard-working manager. And trust me, you are not going to get another manager as good as me.” As always Zaiden stayed quiet ignoring his words and kept on reading. Kai got back to his work wondering what suddenly had got into Zaiden that he brought him coffee. It was totally strange as Zaiden had never bought anything for him before. An hour later someone knocked at their door and shortly a lady pushed the door.  “Um! Mr. Kai, we need to call the maintenance team. The elevator is malfunctioning.” Hearing it, Zaiden got up at once.  “It’s alright, Zaiden I will…” before Kai could complete his words Zaiden rushed out of the office. Entering Emma’s office he saw her sitting casually on the couch scrolling through her phone. “Where is Leo?” he inquired. “Zaiden… What a pleasant surprise?” She got up in excitement. “What a lucky day? For the first time, our Moon is visiting my office. What should I serve?” “Where is Leo?” he questioned again, keeping a straight cold face. “Um! He…” Emma glanced at Beth asking for her to reply. “He went to the store and has not returned for an hour,” Beth replied hastily, getting the hint from Emma. “He has not returned for…” he paused and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Just leave it…” He exited the office. Beth and Emma glanced at each other in shock. Running toward the elevator he saw Kai standing at their office door and gazing at him. So, he ordered hastily, “hurry up and call the maintenance. Stop staring at space.” Kai nodded, shoving his hand in his pocket and fetching his cell phone. Impatiently Zaidned pressed the elevator button but the door didn’t open. Heart running wild and chillness running down his spine, he murmured, “be okay, be okay…”
