Drew pushed her hair back behind her ear as she absently paced about her room, Gal and Kaloni were sitting on her bed, watching her as she moved back and forth, unable to calm herself down. She had been pacing since Noah had left, begrudgingly. She had to force him out, despite that he had tried to argue with her, tried to get her to see reason.
It was a half hour of silence before Kaloni finally spoke up, “There are false positive mates.” She shifted some, fidgeting as she felt Drew glare at her, though the glare seemed to soften a bit as Gal chimed in.
“False positive mates are rare… but it happens when a wolf meets another wolf who either… is related to their mate or spends a lot of time around them.” Gal and Kaloni shared a glance between each other. “Drew, we’ve all come to the conclusion you aren’t related to Adelina... so, it must be from close contact.”
And this caused Drew to start laughing, to the point of tears. She turned to the two women. “You mean when she would literally beat me because I didn’t make her coffee right? Or when she would spend an entire day following me around berating me for how I cleaned the pack house?”
Kaloni had a horrified look on her face, but it was because she was looking past Drew, and not at her - while Gal stared horrified at Drew. At that, Drew spun around on her heel to look at the door, her eyes widened when she noticed Noah was standing there, the look of rage clouding out any other emotion present in his eyes or on his face. “NOAH-” Drew shouted, but it was late.
Noah had stormed off down the hall, the most terrifying roar left him. Drew took off into the hall, kicking off her shoes in the process. She ran as fast as she could push herself, and when she didn’t catch up to Noah, her eyes widened, suddenly fearful for what might happen to Adelina. She followed his scent, straight to the room Adelina was being held in.
She threw the door open to the room in time to see Noah strangling Adelina, holding her up off the floor. Drew ran forward and grabbed Noah by the shoulders; it seemed that contact suddenly snapped Noah to his senses, because his grip loosened on Adelina, so she could breathe again. “Noah.” Drew whispered. She closed her eyes before pressing her face against his back and pulling him towards her, embracing him as tightly as she could.
“You. Will. Tell. Me. Everything.” Noah snarled.
All Adelina could do was nod, and nod vigorously.
Noah released her, dropping her down onto the floor. He stepped back slightly, leaning into Drew’s embrace. He didn’t say anything; his eyes focused on the blonde before him gasping for air.
“It -” Adelina wheezed, “- was -” She wheezed again. “- my father’s idea.” She finally choked out. She drew in a deep breath and screwed her eyes shut. “A silver haired woman showed up on our pack door step one day.” She was holding her throat, trying to soothe it, “-She was heavily pregnant. She begged for us to give her shelter, and protect her baby. A month past, and she gave birth to…” Adelina pointed a finger at Drew. “But shortly after… the woman just… disappeared, leaving her baby with us. My father decided that my uncle would adopt her, and she’d be the pack slave. So my uncle and father raised her that way.” Adelina finally managed to catch her breath. She sat back and stared up, wide eyed. “But when… when a man came demanding her…” Adelina glanced at Drew. “My father told him that I was… her. The man brought me here. My dad knew that you were looking for your mate.” She shifted onto her rear. She closed her eyes and took another shaky breath.
Noah c****d his head. “What did the man look like?” He demanded, “Because we were told you had come on your own accord, when you showed up at the palace.” He snapped a little angrily.
Adelina’s eyes widened. “He had golden hair, it looked like it was shining. And he had golden eyes… his skin was…” She pointed at Drew, motioning to Drew’s tan complexion. “On the way here, he told me… his name was Helios.” She reached up and rubbed her throat.
Noah’s jaw set. He glanced at Drew for a moment, then he turned around in her grasp and scooped her up. He walked out of the room and slammed the door shut behind him. He started walking, Drew in his arms bridal style, towards his room. He ignored everything else, didn’t speak to Drew the whole time.
Once in his room, he laid Drew on his bed. He held up a finger to stop her from speaking before he closed the door to the room and locked it. He walked over to her, climbed up on the bed and pressed his forehead to hers. “Your father picked up your fake cousin and brought her here.” He murmured. “Your actual father.” He added, a tad quietly.
