Chapter 3 - Sebastian

624 Words
"What was that all about?", Aiden's disappointed voice sounds from the hallway as soon as he closes the door. I just dropped back onto the sofa and picked up my Playstation controller. Hypocritically, I look at him and give him an innocent look: "what do you mean? My best friend stops with his head crooked in the door frame and looks at me reproachfully: "Don't pretend, Sebastian. You know exactly what I mean. "No", I shrug my shoulders and continue our game. I know exactly what he's alluding to, but I don't feel like talking about it. Aiden has been trying for weeks to arouse my interest in any women we can find. However, I have little desire to do so, because relationships are usually not mine. Somehow Aiden can't really accept that. With a serious look he pushes himself away from the door frame and approaches me. I expect him to say something, but he just lets himself fall onto the sofa next to me and reaches for his own controller. I look at him inquiringly and wait for him to continue speaking. I'm more than sure that he hasn't finished his sermon yet. As expected, I don't have to wait long for that: "You really weren't nice." "So what? Why should I?" I ask, slightly annoyed. "Because she is your neighbour and you will therefore run into each other more often from now on," he tries to explain to me: "I would consider very carefully whether you want to take the risk of a bad relationship with her in your place. "But I'm not interested in my neighbor," I stubbornly contradict him. "You know what, maybe Heather's better off without you," he rises again to my surprise and puts down the controller. There's a trace of anger in his movements: "You're a real asshole right now". With these words he goes into the hallway. When I hear that he's taking his jacket off the rake, I speak up. "What are you up to," I ask confusedly. "I'm leaving," he says annoyed: "Today I still have enough to do. "What, is that serious?" I ask in disbelief. He can't just go now. "Yes, it is," he opens the front door and sets out to leave: "Will we see each other tomorrow? I nod as a matter of course and watch my best friend close the door behind him. As soon as he's gone, I go over to the kitchen and drop down on a chair. Probably I really did wrong to my friend. After all, he just wanted to help me. But I don't like it when people tell me what to do. Especially when it comes to women. But what I like even less is the fact that my best friend calls me an asshole. After all, he was always the one who believed in me, no matter what others thought of me. Suddenly the thought comes to my mind that he might be right. Maybe I'm actually blocking something if I'm unfriendly to my new neighbor. In the other apartments there is only one single man who feels like he's gone the whole day and one extended family. There's the new one - I think Aiden mentioned that her name is Heather - probably the most interesting tenant in the house. At this moment I have an idea that I can't classify exactly. A grin creeps up on my lips. I could kill two birds with one stone if I started to spend some time with the new one. On the one hand I could prove to Aiden that I'm not such a big asshole and on the other hand he might stop trying to fix me up all the time.
