Chapter 5 - Heather

1004 Words
In fact, after some time it turns out that Sebastian's company isn't as bad as expected. I don't want to deny that he seems to be damn in love with himself, but every now and then he also has his relatively friendly moments and if he wants it, he can even be charming. A few hours ago I really wouldn't have thought that possible. Besides, he looks quite good, admittedly. Whether this is good or bad, I can't say exactly at this point. "How long have you been living here," I'm trying to spark a conversation. I notice, however, that he doesn't like my question, but if he knocks on my door, it's his own fault. I look at him expectantly. "One or two years, he replies briefly, but tells me that he was probably not born here, just like myself. I look at him with interest: "You are quite closed. "I haven't known you for a day. What do you expect", he argues and suddenly stops. I walk a few more steps before I notice this and then turn to him in surprise: "Why are you stopping? Wordlessly, he makes a hand movement to the right, thus pointing me to a building that I identify as a supermarket after a few seconds. I didn't notice it because I was just about to marvel at the buildings across the street. "In there", I ask. "Yes, that's the closest supermarket", we approach it together. Once inside the store, Sebastian seems to want to turn the tables: "And what brings you to this city? I swallow and can now understand quite well that he doesn't necessarily want to tell a person he doesn't really know personal details about his private life. At this moment I don't feel any different. That's why I decide not to answer this question honestly. After all, I don't harm anyone, which in my opinion doesn't even make the whole thing a lie. I just don't tell the whole truth and it's just an exception and won't happen again. Anyway, I hope so, "I got a place at Columbia," so I only tell half of the story. The story with my ex-boyfriend is none of his business. "Oh", he seems surprisingly surprised by this fact: "What are you studying?" I look at him a little offended because he pretends not to be trusted. I say "Jura" after a few seconds and put some water bottles in the shopping basket I got at the entrance. "Really? That is, you want to become a lawyer later and ride people in the s**t?", now he sounds a little impressed, what makes me wrestle with a winning grin. "Yes, but I actually want to get people out of the s**t. But that's the way it works", I try to shrug my shoulders as neutrally as possible while I pack food every now and then. And of course the frozen pizza should not be missing. "You don't just eat pizza, do you?" He gives me a skeptical look. "I don't accept any criticism about my diet from a guy running around in jogging pants in public," I grin and pack a second pizza extra. "This is an exception. Otherwise I don't go out like that," he tries to argue, but he can't hide his grin from me: "Only sometimes." "Why don't I believe you?" I say and then make my way to the cash register. "Don't you want to buy something?" I ask while I put the products on the cash register tape. "Uh, but", he also puts something on the tape. Surprised I look at the object. I didn't even notice that he took anything with him. "I look at him questioningly, "Milk? "Condensed milk", he corrects me with a grin: "Only if you want to borrow something again". I go through my shopping again and find out that I have actually forgotten the product in question. It was clear that I would take any crap with me, but I wouldn't pack it. But I try not to let it show up: "I might come back to the offer sometime". "Oh God, please don't," he jokes while we wait at the checkout. Before I can reply, it's our turn and I'm waiting for the cashier to scan all the products and ask me for money. But no matter how much I try to concentrate on this process, from the corner of my eye I continue to watch my handsome neighbor, whose gaze has strangely turned on me. I hand the man at the checkout a note and then pack the purchases into a paper bag, which I bought with me. As soon as he has also paid, we make our way back to the exit. It is already dawning outside and I am looking forward to seeing the evening lights of the big city around me for the first time. After all, I've never been to a metropolis like this before and I've never seen the real New York of the night with my own eyes. "Where are you going now?" he asks me as soon as we arrive on the street. "Home?", I suggest. I won't be able to carry the bags in my hands around the city for long and I don't want to. "What, no? We can't go home after all. You haven't seen anything of the city yet," he throws in and crosses his arms in front of his chest. "But I can't carry the bags all the time," I point out to him how loaded I actually am. "Give me," he demands, and I hand him both paper bags with raised eyebrows. He grabs it and nods in a direction in which he moves after a few seconds. "Thank you', I look at him surprised, but smile. "For you always", he winking charmingly at me, whereupon he only takes a not exactly convinced look from me, followed by a rolling of his eyes. Not too long ago it sounded quite different.
