Prologue
The cloaked figure walked towards the brick house in the dark of the night, knowing full well that there was no one home but the kid and her nanny. He opened the door to the house with the key the kid's father had handed him.  What a trusting fool he was! Just as quietly, he walked up the steps to her room upstairs, skipping the fourth one on his way because he knew that it creaked. The second door to the right was her room, right next to her parent's. The nanny had left it slightly ajar, for she knew that was how the kid slept best so it did not make any noise at all when he opened it all the way.  Yet, the nanny, who had been rocking in an easy chair next to the kid's crib stood to attention when he entered the room. Too bad she's up. Now she's just gonna have to die. The cloaked figure thought to himself, tsking slightly as he did so. "Oh, Mr.-" The cloaked figure looked at her and held up a hand.  The old lady stopped talking almost instantly upon noticing his usually bright blue which were turning a black so dark, it made her blood run cold. The color of his eyes quickly made it clear that he hadn't come to the house that night with the noblest of intentions and the old lady quickly picked up the kid from her crib, who stirred a little but otherwise remained asleep.  She had seen a man's eyes look that dark only once before that, and those had been her father's.  Right before he'd killed her mother with his bare hands in front of her when she was a child.  The thought of the man standing in front of her harming either her or the child she was holding in her arms drained her eyes of all color out of fear, turning them the palest shade of yellow, so much so that they looked nearly white.  "Why- why are you here?" She managed to stutter out. The cloaked man grinned, coupled with his dark, dangerous eyes, he looked positively menacing, sending another wave of fear chilling the nanny's spine. "To take the child, of course." Her eyes widened, but she held the child closer to her. She gulped, her parents were going to arrive soon, she had to bide her time till then. So she spoke, trying to guilt trip him into sparing them, "Why are you doing this? Her parents trusted you. Why are you betraying them so?" The cloaked man's eyes shifted a little, turning the slightest shade of purple as guilt began to worm it's way in but he blinked and it was gone as fast as it had come.  "That's none of your business. Hand the kid over and I might consider letting you live." He sneered, his eyes turning darker.  "No!" She answered defiantly, thrusting her chin up, her eyes getting back some of their usual blue color as some semblance of confidence returned.  In a flash, the man had covered the distance between them and was standing but a hair's breadth away from the woman.  In the next instant, the woman's head was swiped clean off her shoulders with a single, bold stroke  of the blade the man had concealed beneath his cloak.  Quick as lightning, the man maneuvered the still sleeping kid into his arms before the woman's body fell backwards with a wet thwack, blood gushing out in rivulets all over the floor.  He took one look at the woman's lifeless head which had lolled a few steps away, her horror stricken face halfway open in a silent scream before he left the room as quietly as he'd come, the child tucked safely to his side, the blade back in its place.  It was only once he'd left the house and begun walking towards his car he'd parked a few blocks away that the kid stirred, looking up at him with her bright blue eyes.  She giggled at him, as she always did when looking at him. He smiled down at her, his eyes an equally happy bright blue now. "Hello, baby. Let's get you far, far away from here. You're gonna be happier with me. And so much safer." He told her. The one year old only giggled up at him in response, her pudgy hands reaching out to touch her uncle's face fondly.
