Damian's blood ran cold immediately. The image of Ivy's car crumpled on the highway flooded his mind. The nonchalant dismissal he had felt a few minutes ago towards the accident vanished, and was replaced by a sickening dread.
"Who found the car?" he barked at Samantha, his voice tight with a sudden urgency he hadn't felt all day.
He completely ignored Clara who stood frozen by his side with a smug expression still plastered on her face, but now laced with a flicker of curiosity.
"It's one of your men who found the car.
But who found the car isn't important right now. She must be at the city hospital. Let's go there." Samantha replied, with panic plastered on her face.
The whole group of guests started murmuring again, some had a little worried look on their face while some couldn't care less.
Damian's mother, Sarah spoke up, "Who cares if she was involved in the accident. She's not a member of this pack anymore. She's no longer part of us. Let's continue the party as we celebrate our future heir."
"Mother," Samantha called out, "Even if Damian has openly rejected and denounced her as his Luna in front of everyone here, she's still his wife by law. They are still lawfully married. Anything that happens to her would affect us also since the whole world knows she's the wife of the billionaire Damian. So we've to go to the hospital."
Damian didn't waste another second as he sprinted past Clara towards the door. Clara also scrambled after him together with Samantha.
The car ride to the hospital was a blur of tense silence. Damian gripped the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles turned white. He kept replaying all that had happened tonight. Was it his harsh words that had pushed her to this? To be irrational and impulsive? He shouldn't have let her leave like that.
His eyes remain fixed on the road with his jaw clenched. The city lights blurred together as he sped towards the hospital with his mind consumed by the thought of Ivy.
Clara's voice cut through the silence, with her tone hesitant, "Alpha, maybe you should slow down a little bit for the sake of our unborn..."
Samantha turned her gaze to her, her eyes flashing with anger. "Just be quiet, Clara. Nobody asked you to tag along."
Clara snickered, but she remained silent and turned her face away.
Damian didn't reply to them. He had no time to. His head was filled with the thought of Ivy. He cares deeply for eye even if he refused to admit it.
When they finally pulled up at the entrance of the hospital, Damian was the first to get out of the car; he nearly knocked someone out on his haste to the emergency ward.
The worried faces of other family members who were also involved in the accident filled the room. There was chaos everywhere, but despite the chaos, Damian weaved through and rushed over to the receptionist desk.
"Ivy Blackwood! Where is she?" he asked the receptionist loudly, after he pushed through the crowd.
The receptionist, who was a young woman, was startled by Damian's booming voice and looked up at him with frightened eyes.
"Ivy Blackwood?" she repeated, "I... I'm not sure if she's among the victims, sir. The accident was a major one with many casualties..."
"Casualties? What does that mean?" Damian asked, as his heart hammered against his chest.
The receptionist, who was visibly shaking, avoided his gaze and tried to explain, "We're still trying to identify the patients. If you can provide a description of the person you're looking..."
"She has blond hair, with brown eyes," Damian cut her through, his voice hoarse. "She's about five feet tall and slender, with long legs."
The receptionist nodded slowly, with her fingers flying across the keyboard. "One minute, sir."
minute, sir."
Damian paced around anxiously with his eyes scanning the faces of the other people waiting anxiously.
Damian felt a shiver, a strange sensation he had never felt before. His own father had died, but this felt different.
"Find her faster," he urged the receptionist who kept typing faster on the keyboard. But the noise from the crowd grew intense as they also shouted and urged the receptionist to also find their loved ones. While dominating the space with their desperation.
"Have you found her?" Damian asked the receptionist as he fixed his eyes intently on her.
"I'm still trying sir. Please just give me a minute," she replied, heaving a heavy sigh.
The crowd around them was growing agitated. One woman was crying miserably while another man was shouting at the receptionist, demanding to know where his son was.
As the noise grew louder and louder, Clara stepped forward and reached out a hand to Damian. "Damian, maybe she's not here..."
Damian brushed her hand away without sparing her a glance. "She's out here," he muttered, his voice was barely audible. "She has to be here."
He turned back to the receptionist, his voice now a loud growl. "Do you know who I am?" he asked her angrily. "Find her. Now."
The receptionist shrank back in fear, then nodded frantically and began typing again. She doesn't want to get on Damian's bad side.
Damian is a well-known billionaire CEO in the human world, even though no human knows he's a werewolf. He owned the biggest acting agency in the whole of New Orleans. And he's among the top ten multi-billionaires in the whole of the city. He's popular with both the humans and the werewolves.
The receptionist knew him very well, and she knew better than to offend him.
Meanwhile, as the chaos unfolded, Clara shifted to a corner and leaned against the wall. She took out her phone and dialed a number, her eyes were scanning the entrance of the hospital for any incoming patients.
"Hello, father. Ivy was involved in the ghastly accident on the highway," she informed him, and returned her gaze to Damian. "And we haven't found her yet."
The voice from the other side came expectantly, "That's very good. Is she dead?"
Clara shook her head even though he couldn't see her. "Didn't you hear me? I said she hasn't been found yet."
Her father sighed in disappointment before responding. "I was hoping it was all over. You know you have to become the Luna by all means. She has to be dead. No matter what. For our plan to go accordingly." her father said.
