Clara tightened her grip on her phone when she heard what her father said. "Father, right now I'm more concerned about Damian's behavior. He seems not to be reacting well to the news. He's losing it."
"I don't care how he feels. Just keep me updated. I just hope she's dead for good." Her father's voice took on a sinister tone. "And make sure you're well prepared for any outcome."
Clara's eyes were locked on Damian who was still frantically searching for Ivy. She took a deep breath and then replied, " I will, Father." Then she hung up the phone.
Her eyes never for once left Damian's face. She knew she had to keep up with the plan, at least for now.
Meanwhile, at the receptionist desk, the receptionist finally looked up from her computer with a sympathetic expression on her face. "Mr Damian, I'm sorry. I've checked the list of all the patients brought in from the accident, but we do not have anyone by the name Ivy Blackwood."
Damian's face fell, his eyes widened in shock and disappointment. "What do you mean you can't find her? She has to be here. She was involved in the accident."
The receptionist's expression turned sober, "I understand, sir. But we've had multiple casualties from the accident, and some of the victims... weren't identifiable. Some were burnt beyond recognition. We're doing our best to match all the victims with their identities. But that would take some time. It's a slow process."
Damian's eyes narrowed as his voice took on a desperate tone. "What are you saying? Are you saying that she might be here, but you don't know who she is?"
The receptionist nodded hesitantly. "I'm afraid that's the case here sir. We'll need to take your contact information and let you know if we found a match to her description that you've just provided."
"What do you mean that's the case here?" Samantha, who has been quiet and trying to act calm finally burst out. "Are you saying Ivy might be among those who died in the accident? Oh my God Damian, if anything happens to Ivy, just know that it's all your fault. You make it happen."
Damian's face twisted in anguish as he realized the truth. Ivy might be dead. Her unidentifiable body might be among those in the morgue. For a moment, Damian thought he was going to collapse.
Damian tried using their bond as mates to see if he could locate or feel her presence, but he felt nothing. It was as if she were no longer in existence.
Or was it because he had publicly rejected her earlier on that's why he could no longer feel her? he thought to himself.
The receptionist's voice cut through the chaos in his mind, "Sir, I think it would be best for you to go home and wait for us to contact you. We'll do everything within our means to find out what happened to your wife."
Damian's mind was racing, but he knew he had to take action. He quickly pulled out his phone and called his Beta.
"Roland, I need you to drop everything you're doing and get to the City Hospital right now. I need you to come handle things here. Ivy has not been found yet."
His Beta, Roland, was calm and efficient. "I'll be right there, Alpha. What's the situation?"
Damian took a deep breath and tried to process the chaos around him. "I'm not quite sure. The hospital is overcrowded and filled with a lot of people, but they can't seem to find Ivy. I need you to use our resources to get to the bottom of this. Find out what happened to Ivy and where she is."
"I'm on it, alpha," Roland replied smugly. "I'll get our team on it right away. Do you want me to meet you at the hospital?"
Damian nodded, even though Roland couldn't see him. "Yes, get here as soon as possible. I need someone I can trust to handle this."
After Damian ended the call, he turned to Clara, who was standing nearby and watching him with a mixture of concern and curiosity. "I need to go," Damian said to Clara firmly, and then turned to Samantha, who was also standing nearby. "I have made calls and asked for them to help me found Ivy. Let's wait a little bit more, they would surely find her."
Clara nodded and took a step closer to Damian, "I'll leave you alone to handle it by yourself then." Her voice was dripping with insincerity.
Damian's eyes narrowed at Clara's word. He turned away from her and pushed through the crowd, determined to find Ivy and get answers
The thought of Ivy being dead didn't sit well with Damian at all. But deep down, he felt that Ivy might be among those dead. She might be dead already. Because he could no longer feel her through their mate bond. He was still able to feel her at the party, even after he had rejected and denounced her as his mate and Luna. But now, he feels nothing.
Damian began to wonder if Ivy is still alive or if she's already dead.
