Ivy rushed out of the mansion shoving past both servants and guests. She could feel the weight of all their gazes on her back, but she refused to give them the satisfaction of a reaction, of her crying.
The cold night air struck her like a blast. But the blaze in her chest overwhelmed it all.
She sprinted to the garage and requested for the driver to give her the keys to the only vehicle present in the garage at that time.
“Ma'am, this vehicle has some issues, it's not really safe to operate it..." the driver attempted to tell her, but he was interrupted.
"I don't care." Ivy stated, her tone icy. "I refuse to remain here even a minute longer."
The driver’s expression dropped and he hesitantly gave her the car keys.
"Ma'am, it's really critical for you to drive this car at the moment." the driver warned, his voice urgent. "Ma'am, please don't drive this car. It's not safe. It got faulty a few days ago , and it hasn't been fixed yet." His eyes widened in alarm as he realized Ivy was about to drive away.
Ivy hesitated for a moment, with her hands on the gearshift. But then, her face hardened and she put the car on gear. "I don't care." She said again.
Her hands trembled uncontrollably while she ignited the engine. Tears clouded her sight streaming down her face and stinging her skin.
The driver's face fell, and he stepped back as Ivy pulled away from the garage. His face was filled with concern as he watched the car disappeared into the distance. He was wondering if he should alpha Damian so as to report the situation to him.
Ivy sped onto the highway with her chest rising and falling, and her breath jagged. She gripped the steering wheel tightly and tries to focus on the road ahead. But her mind was filled with different emotions and her heart was heavy with Damian's words.
“How could he… how could he betray me like this?" she wept. "On our anniversary… my own partner…”
She couldn't believe what had just unfolded at the anniversary party. Not only has Damian cheated, but he has decided to humiliate her public. In front of all their guests. In front of those people wh once respected and looked up to her.
Ivy's sobs grew louder. She felt like she was losing herself, like she was drowning in a sea of pain and heartache.
Ivy's eyesight grew hazy as tears streamed down her face. She was uncertain about her destination; all she understood was that she needed to escape. Escape from Damian, escape from his toxic pack, escape from the memories that tormented her.
But she knew one thing was for sure. She would never go back to Damian and never again subject herself to his cruelty, his indifference, and the insults of his mother.
She held the steering wheel firmly with both hands, attempting to concentrate on the path in front of her. However, her thoughts were a tangle of feelings.
Marrying Damian was the biggest mistake she ever made. She knew very well that Damian didn’t have feelings for her. But the wolves within them selected one another as partners. Damian’s father and her father were delighted. They organized the wedding, which she and Damian had agreed to. Now she saw herself as a fool, for committing to a marriage that is devoid of love. A marriage that she has been nothing but loyal to Damian.
And what did she get in return for her loyalty? A betrayal from Damian, humiliation from both him and his mother, and Clara betraying her and getting what she wants.
The feeling of regret was suffocating her, making it hard for her to breathe.
She slid one hand off the steering wheel and wiped her tears away from her face, but more kept pouring out like a torrent and she found herself breaking into uncontrollable sobs. Her life was really f****d up.
As Ivy continue driving, the city lights gave way to the dark stretch of the highway. She had been driving for what felt like hours and the tears hasn't subsided one bit, yet there was a numbness that has settled all over her.
Ivy pressed the accelerator watching the speedometer rise rapidly. But as rounded a curve, she saw a huge truck rushed toward her out of nowhere, and Ivy's heart nearly jumped out from her chest as she kept stepping on the brakes, while attempting to slow the car down, but the brakes failed to react.
"Come on, come on," she whispered as she desperately continued hitting the panel with all the strength she could mastered as though her life depended on it. Her eyes widened at the windshield as she saw that the truck was very close to her and she desperately kept slamming the brakes with her trembling legs.
“No! No! No!" she shouted as panic take hold.
She jerked the steering wheel to the left attempting to switch lanes to dodge the truck. But the highway was filled with cars and Ivy's vehicle slipped uncontrollably. The truck’s horn blared loudly resonating in the darkness.
"Release me!" her wolf, Mira, who hadn't spoken all night snarled within her.
For a split second, Ivy thought of shifting, but she couldn't risk it; there were CCTV cameras everywhere, and she couldn't afford to let the whole world know there were werewolves among them. They have been keeping that as a secret for centuries.
The truck's large, cylindrical body loomeed before her, a potentially explosive pay load that made her blood ran cold.
As the truck approached, her screams intensified increasingly.
She experienced all emotions all at once.
Pain.
Fear.
Betrayal.
She attempted to turn the steering wheel to the left in one last attempt but it was already too late. The truck collided with her vehicle with a deafening impact, forcing it into another car on the highway and sending Ivy's face slamming against the steering wheel.
The clatter of metal and breaking glass echoed around as Ivy's surroundings faded to black accompanied with a sharp pain burning across her face.
