CHAPTER 69 Elliot stood back while Connie nearly threw her arms around Ruby when they returned from Jessi’s funeral. Connie wiped her hands on the sides of her apron. “Oh, I’m so glad you got here when you did. The guests will be arriving any second, and we need to have a talk.” She pulled out a seat, but Elliot stood at the door uncertainly. “Should I go?” “No, no, hon.” Connie gestured to another chair. “You stay here too. This is hard news, and she’s going to need someone she can rely on.” Elliot held his breath. More bad news? Could Connie have picked a worse day?
