“Mace, can you hear me?” Ruby strained her ears. He must be driving through a bad reception area. “Mace?”
“I’m here. Why didn’t you call?”
“I’m sorry.” She’d grabbed her cell to find over twenty messages and texts. “I left my phone in the car.”
“So you’re there? You’re with Jessi?”
“Well, I’m at the hospital. I’m not with her anymore, but I just came back from her room.”
“How is she?”
