Chen Feng was hesitant as she stared at Li Luxian with pleading eyes. He gave her an assuring smile. Willingly or unwillingly, she was dragged away by her clingy mother-in-law.

"Um... Ms. Li? Where are we going?", she asked hesitantly pondering over the possibility that she might be taking her to an altar to butcher her.

Chen Feng had a legit reason behind her reluctance. Mothers-in-law are supposed to be evil and averse to the unpermitted marriage of their sons. This was how it has always been since the beginnings of time.

According to the countless cliche dramas she had watched so far, mothers-in-law are gullible creatures easily persuaded by the evil one-sided lovers of the husbands and they are destined to fight by the side of those suitors to demand a divorce.

"To your wedding room sweety", Li Shanguan said softly, "And just call me mother"

Chen Feng’s head was numb as her brain inspected to smell some conspiracy. But she could find none. Either her mother in law was overly cunning hiding under a duplicitous mask or she was an overly innocent and kind-hearted woman. Chen Feng thought that a direct discourse was inevitable in this regard to unravel the truth.

"Ms. Li-I mean mother. May I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead sweety"

"Are you not angry at me?"

"For what?", she said cheerfully as nothing had happened at all.

"Um...for marrying your son behind your back without even notifying you let alone getting your permission, I guess?"

Li Shanguan laughed, opening the door to a beautifully decorated wedding room. The interior was designed elegantly and surely meticulously. Everything was red and rose petals scattered over the white sheets of the bed gave an aesthetic effect to the scenery.

Strange hotness warmed Chen Feng’s face.

Was it all prepared by her mother-in-law? Did she already know about the wedding? Those questions emerged in Chen Feng’s mind.

"Who said I was not notified?", said Li Shanguan with the same cheerfulness in her tune.

"Li Luxian told you?"

"No. I’ve other means to know", Li Shanguan eyes glinted mischievously.

Chen Feng was speechless. She didn’t know what to say. After a pause of silence, she slowly asked.

"So are you not against us?", she asked demurely.

"Of course not!", Li Shanguan said, "If not for you, I was afraid I would never be gifted with grandchildren"

"What do you mean? Li Luxian was already engaged..."

"Yes, he was...", Li Shanguan said as she went inside the room to close the curtains, "But what use would it have? Li Guang might have been able to get them married legally but he wouldn’t be able to force them to make babies"

Chen Feng made a weird face. She was seeing from where Li Luxian inherited his certain attributes.

"I’m grateful to you. Li Luxian has always been repulsed by females. But the way he looks at you... I know there s something. something his heart has been yearning for so long", Li Shanguan sighed, "And I wish for nothing more than my son happiness"

Chen Feng had felt it too. He always looked at her differently. But she had always dismissed it considering that it was all the part of an act. Could he act so well that he even deceived his own mother? Or did he really like her that much?

Chen Feng weighted her next words carefully.

"What if I’m a greedy person who married your son only for his money?"

Li Shyngun looked at Chen Feng. Worry appeared in her eyes as her expressions tensed. Then her expressions eased and a warm smile lit her soft, motherly features.

"I trust my son’s choice", she said grabbing Chen Feng hands and looking at her with deep, affectionate eyes, "The girl my son chooses, can’t be a bad girl"

Chen Feng felt a strange warmth surging in her heart. Her eyes almost watered witnessing the trust and love between the mother and the son. For someone who had never experienced parental love before, it was a sensitive topic for her.

"Tell me Chen Feng", Li Shanguan asked slowly, "Will you be a good wife and take care of my son?"

"I’ll do my best", Chen Feng said promptly without thinking what would she mean by promising it.

Li Shanguan took a deep sigh like a great burden had been lifted off her shoulders.

"Now I can rest assured", she looked at Chen Feng and smiled mischievously while walking out of the room winking at Chen Feng, "By the way this room is soundproof, so you guys don’t need to worry about us hearing anything. Be wild. Be yourself"

When Li Luxian entered the room, he saw Chen Feng sitting on the bed with a red face. His mother had just walked out. Li Luxian, aware of the teasing nature of his mother, concluded that she must have said something to her. He shook his head inwardly.

"Your mother knew", Chen Feng said quickly getting up.

"Zhang Xin noticed and informed me that she had some people after us all the time. My mother can’t just suppress her curious nature. I knew that she was not a danger to us so I let it be"

"Your grandfather? What did he say", Chen Feng asked impatiently.

Li Luxian smirked thinking about the time just a moment ago when he subjugated his grandfather with his ploy.

"He asked me to leave you"

"What!", Chen Feng’s eyes widened, "What did you say?"

Li Luxian laughed as he threw away a heart-shaped cushion from the couch and sat on it leisurely. Chen Feng would lie if she said she was not nervous. The atmosphere was very romantic and it was hard to ignore it. But anyway, she tried her best to behave as if everything was normal.

"I told my grandfather about that business investment that required my being married", Li Luxian had previously explained all to Chen Feng about it, "They have also added that ridiculous term of not being divorced in a period of one year under Wang family persuasion. "Yes, he did want to investigate the matter as to why was such ridiculous term added but if he was to do so, Wang family conspiracy would be disclosed"

"Yes. Wang Zhihao tried his best to dismiss the matter and stopped pressurizing my grandfather about the marriage matter. Because if this matter was investigated, their conspiracy would be disclosed. Chen Feng’s eyes brightened.

Chen Feng’s heart fluttered as she tried to mask her heated face. Indeed, he told her earlier that he had a plan. After a long pensive silence, Chen Feng said quietly.

"Of course they wouldn’t but...", he stood up and neared Chen Feng. Grabbing her hand and staring into her chocolate brown eyes with great intensity, he said, "...as long as we are together, they can’t harm us"

Chen Feng looked at him and saw so much in his deep eyes-so much that it almost scared her. She didn’t want to get her hopes up. Because if she did, she was scared she would get hut in the end. Like the time she got hurt with Fu Jianguo. She quickly withdrew her hand. She was nervous.

They were alone. It was their wedding night and the room was decorated accordingly. She was scared he must be having expectations.

"Alright. Let me arrange the bed for you. I’ll sleep on the couch", she said in one breath and ran away from him.

Li Luxian chuckled as he slowly walked to her. She was clearing the bed to distract herself from his presence.

Suddenly she felt a pair of arms around her waist. She gasped as Li Luxian pulled her back and pushed her against the nearby wall. Her heart jumped into a hyperactive state almost instantly.

Chen Feng tried to get away. She had hardly moved a step to a side when suddenly Li Luxian placed his hand on the wall on her side and smiled at her mischievously. She tried to escape from the other side but he placed his hand, completely entrapping her. She couldn’t escape. She had no choice but to face him now.

"W-What are you doing?"

"What do you think I’m doing?", Li Luxian said in a flirty tune holding a husky edge in his voice as he leaned in to get closer to her. His face was inches away from her and

"What?", he laughed lightly finding her nervous look cute, "Are you not going to give me my wedding night, wife?"

Cheng Feng eyes widened as she stared at him. Blood pumped to her face and a deep crimson crept to her puffy cheeks, turning it to a burning tomato. She almost forgot to breathe as she stared at him.

Right at that moment, Li Luxian broke into waves of laughter.

"W-What?", Chen Feng stuttered, still confused and inwardly struggling to steady her heart-beats.

"You-You should have looked at your face", he said and once again broke into fits of laughter.

"Huh?", she blinked and slowly everything sunk in.

Was he making fun of her?

"You! How dare you!"

Blinded by fury, she picked a nearby lamp and threw it at her husband who was too busy laughing. Li Luxian eyes widened as he stared at the incoming lamp. He bent backward to dodge it the last minute. It flew over him by a distance of few inches and hit the wall behind him with a loud crash.

"Woman!", Li Luxian stared at his wife who had gone berserk.

"How dare you make fun of me!", Chen Feng said angrily and picked up another lamp and threw it at him.

Li Luxian stepped to a side and hardly dodged it.

"Calm down!"

She picked a pillow and threw it at him. This time Li Luxian dodged it effortlessly.

"Is this the best you can do?", Li Luxian challenged her smugly with a mocking tone.
