Chapter Thirteen
The Experiment
When she opened her eyes the next morning, Emily was trapped in a dark, confined place. Her first thought was someone had placed her there to stop the wedding from happening. Other than Richard and Mr. Miller, no one was particularly nice to her at DMI and there might be someone, human or android, who opposed the wedding. In the dark, she touched her finger and discovered someone had taken her engagement ring away from her. Her anger and frustration with her situation grew. She thought of Richard patiently waiting for her and had the impulse to pound her fists through the top of the enclosure. As soon as the obedience collar began tightening around her throat, Emily took a deep breath and tried to calm her mind.
