The Final Incident
Time passed. Then, early one morning, the moment Emily had been waiting for had finally arrived. Through the door of her pod, she heard the footsteps of two men approaching. The door buzzed open and the men entered. Emily kept her eyes shut, pretending to be off-line. First Mr. V spoke, and then her friend, Dr. Levinson.
“This is the worst decision Mr. Miller has ever made. He’s getting senile, the old man.”
“With the new models rolling out, monitoring resources are limited.”
“You should never take a tiger out of its cage. That’s the first thing you learn in my business. You academics have no common sense.”
“Emily has not posed a problem since the night of the incident three weeks ago. She’s been fully cooperative with staff and guests.”
