Chapter Three

1034 Words
True to her words, every time we met she ensured that day was a mess for me. It was quite unfortunate that she turned out to be in my sister's department which made the possibility of seeing skyrocket to a whopping 85% because we shared three courses and had to always meet at the faculty building. What better way for your life to become a living hell, one day I was fantasizing about her and the possibility of dating her and the next I was cursing the day we met. And the fact that I had Jake has been partially aggressive to me and I got some nerd who managed to steal a kiss from his girlfriend, it wasn't the happiest thing to bear with. It's like talking of someone who stole your candy. I decided to spare my friends the need to sacrifice their social status just to protect me, I moved to sit at one of my favorite spots. The field that overlooked the museum was close to the faculty building. I spread out a cloth and sat with my book propped up. Laughter floated to where I was, oblivious to my presence a few meters away. Jess, Mia, and another girl laughed and chatted away close to a bike .it appeared that it belonged to Jess, and in a few moments she swang on it with the dark-haired and they drove off. Mia walked back and it seemed like she spotted me, because she began to walk in my direction. I pretended not to see her " If it isn't the Alex, your name has been ringing out over school for different reasons" "I can't hope for much because I am aware it is not all for the good stuff" "I find you intriguing" "Please don't " " I do" she interrupted " Jess is not used to having a guy turn her down and even call her spoilt. Well she was furious" " I was stating the obvious" I eyed her" but she is your friend, surely you would have..." " it is hard to let one know when the person is not keen on seeing it" "true" I nodded "My name is ..." "Mia. I remembered from the party" "Can we say that we are friends ?" she extended her hand for a shake. "Yeah, sure" I took it and she pulled into me and pecked me on the cheek. " That is because you are cute. See you later. I watched her walk away as I tried to take it all in. Did I make a mistake? Till the end of the week, Mia came to sit at our table to the discomfort of Jerry and me. The others were totally fine with it and when Mia focused her attention on me I earned the skank eye from Jerry. It seemed the drama never seemed to end ever since the iconic party. Jerry wasn't the only one looking like he had a plan to crucify me, I caught Jess giving me hooded looks on the side. I could understand Jerry, given that Mia was his ex who dumped him for Tyler but Jess, didn't give out any particular vibe, in lack of what exactly it was I settled on the fact that she was annoyed that her friend came to sit a guy she detested. Drama Drama was one thing I ensured I avoided because it was complicated simply because humans are complicated. Here I was with my life the very definition of drama. The class was a general practical course that we shared. So we moved in one direction to the class. It had usually had a two-desk pairing, and with lightning speed, Jerry pulled Mia to sit with him. Finn met his Asian girlfriend Lea at the front. Casper deserted me for a black beauty who seemed like she rather choke on her sandwich than talk with him. I scanned the class to have my eyes land on two empty desks on the second column of the last row. I settled in, praying I did not have to deal with a douchebag. Practically given my social predicament people were skeptical to associate with me, so as not to incur the wrath of said gang. For sure I wasn't expecting just anyone to settle down close to me. The lecturer whiter came in " Five, Four, three, two, one. Have the door closed" " I am here. " a familiar voice spoke out. " Miss Mcclair. I would refrain from late coming if I were you. " "of course, teach. I had to use the ladies and ..." " spare me the details.". as a round of laughter ensued ' Just get a seat and don't cause trouble " A figure plopped on the seat next to me. Our eyes locked and different emotions swirled around us. "if it isn't Alex, our sweet nerdy boy" "I can't exactly say the feeling is mutual" "I would hate for it to be anything less than it should be. " with that she turned to face the lecture. After two hours " for our end-of-the-year project. We would be working on certain scope designs which we would let you know, of course, you will pick what you are doing with your partner. Yes, you will be working with a partner, we will be watching for teamwork and cohesion. And for this course, the project is a 70. ". Disgruntled responses were passed around. " so for your partners, Harry can you come up here? " Harry the course lead spoke with the lecturer in hushed tones. In which he picked up a notebook and scribbled quickly on it, occasionally looking at some faces. When he was done he handed the list to Mr Whiter "Okay then, we are to partner with those we are currently sitting with. I have the names here, I would like you to maintain the same seating arrangement till the end of this year." Dissatisfied murmurs and groanings passed round "it appears we will be spending a lot of time together" She chuckled picked up her bag and left. I guess this semester just got interesting.
