CHAPTER TWO

1000 Words
Viyora’s phone rang, saving her from her thoughts. It was Klein, her best friend from Munich, Germany. V: Don’t you think it’s high time you crawled out of your shell? It doesn’t mean you won’t be buried there if that’s what you really want. K: (laughs out loud) Viyora De la Rosa!!! V: That’s not even American!! K: The name Viyora isn’t B or. So, what's up? I checked the weathercast for Texas and figured you’re lying upside down on your couch with your two left legs against the wall thinking of your most recent relationship. V: jeez Klein cut me some... K: pie Babes. (Both laugh out loud. And the conversation went on). Klein talked about who was new in Munich and who left. How the airports these days are more occupied with Africans and why on scholarship and how she doesn’t think it makes any sense for someone to still find Germany worthwhile studying. She told Viyora of this young man she had slept with recently, ‘V he’s lit!!!’ was her response when Viyora asked about his net worth. Klein always had her ways with men. Klein is Viyora’s best friend and they have been since 4th grade, when Viyora’s family had to move to Munich due to her father’s job. It had not been so easy for her, but Gem helped her settle down and they wore the same dress for literally everywhere till Viyora moved to Texas in search of a job. Klein is German with dark hair and a pointed nose. She had dark eyes too and a full lip. One would think she was African, but she wasn’t even of her fourth generation. Her eyes were like a cat’s and her eyelashes seemed fake because they were so long. Once at their college, she was nominated for Miss Africa. She and Viyora still laugh about it till today. Viyora would tease her about DNA, but her parents are both Christians and won’t have such. Viyora loved a lot about Klein; her social life was Viyora’s imagination. Unlike her, Klein hated academics and was the life of every party. She loves moving but has never moved an inch from Germany since her birth. She works as a flight attendant and that means she has traveled the globe but never seen a reason to leave Germany. Now she talks about this Arabian when Sven, her boyfriend, lives a block away from her. That was totally Klein. The bold and fear less one. She met this man on a flight from Munich to Houston; he was on a business trip, so he said. Klen loved how he pronounced the darling word, so he introduced himself as Mr. Navabi, which further swept Klein off her feet. She dated only the wealthy and her job as a flight attendant helps a lot in these discoveries. Viyora couldn’t help feel jealous because she had nothing close to what Klein’s life brought along. She blamed herself for not even being able to attract the kind of men she desired. Klein had been in a relationship with so many men, but one seemed to persist and that was her boyfriend since high school, Mark. He understood Klein’s ways around men but never seemed to get over her. They had broken up a million times and came back together. He was rich because his parents were rich. He didn’t have to work; he had gotten Klein a car on her eighteenth birthday and left her for another girl afterwards. He was literally like her, so they understood each other. Klein talks about wanting to spend her entire life with him but Mark’s parents weren’t only skeptical about her, they didn’t like her at all. They knew all about her because Klein had never bothered about impressing them. The fact is, she hated Mark’s father for marrying and being in love with his mother all those years. She hated his mother because, in her opinion, she was ugly and had a long nose both literally and figuratively. Klein hated her for wanting to be involved in her son’s life and wanting to control her son. She complained to Viyora all day about how Mark’s mom had strongly warned him to severe ties with her because she was a flight attendant. Klein and Mark’s relationship was a beautiful one. They did a couple of years several years back in school. They broke up three times a week every school week and it was either Klein kissed a boy or Mark had s*x in the girl’s washroom. Mark had just proposed to Klein last week and she was hesitant and nervous for some reasons she couldn’t place her hands on. Viyora wished she had wings like Klein. It was Klein’s birthday and aside from the man she had unprotected s*x with on that trip to Huston, she wasn’t going to have a boring birthday. Viyora wasn’t in the right state of mind to come to Germany and Mark was on a business trip in China. So, Klein tells Viyora of her intentions to go clubbing that night. It was late and Klein was bored. The next day, she called Viyora to tell her about a one-night stand she had in the club. What's up with, Brian Klein asked? I’m pretty sure he’s the one intruding your thoughts in this cold weather. Brian had asked her to follow him to his parent’s house, a trip Viyora knew she was never going to make. She loved him but not to the point where she would present herself as his wife or a step towards that. She didn’t like his parents. Brian was a good man. He was kind, always listened and never expected anything from Viyora and that was the problem. Viyora needed someone with a stronger pull, someone who would always keep her burning; she knew she didn’t want just love and commitment. She wanted passion, she wanted drama. Viyora knew it was odd but satisfying.
