CHAPTER 13

Annabeth's POV "Okay...?" was all Natasha managed to say once we were outside the cafeteria. She was still stunned by what had just happened, so I simply laughed at her reaction. She looked ridiculous. "I'm leaving, Natasha. Bye." I turned away without hesitation, but she stopped me by grabbing my arm. Naturally, as Annabeth, I reacted immediately. I slapped her hand away and shot her a sharp glare. She flinched and stepped back, awkwardly scratching the back of her neck. "Hehe... we haven't eaten yet. Duh, Annika. Do you want me to die of hunger or something?" "Then you should've stayed inside," I snapped irritably. As if it were my fault she'd starve. "You dragged me out! And you seriously expected me to stay in there?" she scoffed. "Nah, forget it. I don't want to be in the presence of those royalties anyway." She rolled her eyes so hard I almost punched her. I swear, one more move and I'd pluck her eyes out myself. "What do you mean by that?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do you also hate them?" I felt the familiar warmth spread across my forehead. Moments later, the bleeding stopped completely—even the stain vanished. What an incredible power. "Y-your fore—" "Yeah, yeah, I know," I cut her off. "So? Do you hate the royalties or not?" She ignored my forehead and laughed loudly—her laughter laced with bitterness, anger, and pain. "Of course I do. They're selfish. Instead of being role models, they're the worst influence in this school." I smirked and dragged her toward the grocery store just across the building. Might as well buy what I needed for my room. "Where are we—" "Since you insist that we're friends, tell me about yourself," I said calmly, "and about the school royalties." I didn't actually care about her. I was only using her. After all, information was necessary if I wanted to plan my next moves. She laughed and finally stopped resisting as I pulled her along. You're lucky I need you, I thought darkly. Otherwise, I would've thrown you somewhere far away by now. Caleb's POV "What the hell is wrong with her?!" I snarled, looking around at everyone—but no one answered. Their gazes were distant, lost in thought. Instead of throwing a childish tantrum, I sat down on the sofa inside HQ and replayed what happened earlier. Every time I remembered what she did to Luciana—how she slapped her again and again, how Luciana slowly lost her strength—my blood boiled. How dare she touch the love of my life?! Sister or not—scratch that. She's not my sister. Princess or not, I won't let this slide. The healer said Luciana lost nearly half of her power. It might take a long time before she wakes up. Lean, on the other hand, was still unconscious, recovering in the hospital. Luciana is gentle—but deadly. She cares deeply about all of us, especially her siblings. I don't blame her for losing control earlier because of what happened to Lean. Still... this shouldn't have happened. I'm sorry, Lucie. I never knew Mom and Dad were capable of creating a bastard like her. BLAGGG! The door slammed open, making all of us turn our heads. Wraise stormed in, fury written all over her face. What? Was it our fault Lumino ran off? Such a crybaby—he's already grown, for crying out loud. Don't get me wrong. I care about Lumino. But sometimes he doesn't think like us—like royalty. That's why we tease him. And now we're stuck worrying about where he is. When he sulks, he sulks like a girl. "I can't find him, damn it!" Wraise snapped before dropping onto the sofa. Light handed her a glass of juice, which she immediately drank. "Let's give him some space," Dionne said calmly. "He took Annika's words to heart. You know Lumino—he looks tough, but he's really sensitive. He overthinks." "Since when did you know him so well, huh, Dionne?" Dravis teased. Dionne stared at him with a blank expression—one that screamed shut up unless you want me to shut you up. Jeez. Dionne can be terrifying sometimes. Almost like Drex. "What?" Dravis continued. "You barely talk to him. Every time he tries, all of you avoid him. I stayed because I care. How about you? Do you really care?" "What kind of sick question is that?!" Gloom shouted, standing up. "Of course we care! Lumino's our childhood friend!" Davis stood as well, facing him. "Right. Our childhood friend—the one you used to bully. So don't act innocent." That was true. Lumino was strange back then, so we bullied him in grade school. And when we found out he was a prince of the Water Kingdom? That's when we started including him. Funny, isn't it? We only accepted him because he was royalty. "I haven't forgotten that," Gloom muttered. "And I regret it—" "Oh really—" "SHUT THE f**k UP!" Wraise roared. "Can you do something useful instead of acting like a bunch of p*****s?!" Silence fell instantly. Both of them sat down, guilt written all over their faces. I couldn't blame Wraise. Lumino meant a lot to her. If anyone was hurting the most right now—it was her. "Sorry, Ris..." "Yeah... sorry." She only rolled her eyes. I laughed silently to myself. She really does act like a boss. And honestly? I don't like it.
