Don't separate us!!
My name is Maya Blank. My parents died in a car crash mysteriously, and somehow all trace of their identity was lost so I was given the option to make my own last name. I chose Blank for obvious reasons. Yes I do live a sad life but not as sad as you think. Although most of the kids in my orphanege dislike me, I have one little bitty ray of sun in my life.
My little brother Jacob runs into my room and jumps on top of me. "Maya! Maya!" He shouts in excitement. One day soon I'm gonna be eighteen and I'm going to adopt Jacob and we're going to live the happiest life! Jacob bounces on the bed. "You won't believe it, Maya!! I'm getting adopted!!" He smiles brightly. "Uhm.. What?" I'm struck dumbfounded. Adopted? My brother? Before I'm eighteen? No.
"You're joking around, right?" I ask desparetly. "Nope!! The couple is bery nice they told me to start packing cause they'll come back tomorrow for me!!" His eyes sparkle wide like a million flashlights in my face. "Are.. Are they still here?" My voice shakes. I have to try something. If Jacib is gone I'll have nothing left to love here. "Yeah they're talking to Ms. Eleanor about the adoption for details." He said slowly trying to recall the used words.
I run. I run like my life depended on it. Down the hallway, around the corner, down the stairs and across the living room. I frantically look around trying to spot the couple. At first I can't find anyone but then Ms. Eleanor's bunned hair peeks from the door frame to the dining room. I feel my face light up in hope. I leap across the room and there they are. The couple to adopt Jacob.
"Um!!" I interrupt them. Now that I think of it... I have no idea what to say. "Maya?" Ms. Eleanor calls out to me. "Is anything wrong?" She looks at me with worry. "Wrong... Yes. Something is wrong. " I say slowly gathering up my courage. "Well then? What is it?" She begins to sound more stern.
I finally gathered up my courage and dare myself to speak. I look at the couple. The man seems professional but somehow still gives off a friendly feeling. The wife, on the other hand, is proffessional and intimidating. "The boy you are planning to adopt, Jacob. Is like a brother to me. If he was gone, I would have nothing left to love... He means everything to me and I really don't want to be away from him. So, I hope you take into consideration..." I bow respectively recalling it in a movie once. "Please take me in as your daughter as well!! I promise to make you proud as my parents!!" I shout at the top of my lungs.
I look up. I can see they are extremely surprised. For moments the room is sorrounded in silence. "Well..." The father begins. "I guess, it wouldn't hurt, would it?" He smiles at me. The feeling of joy envelopes me for a brief two seconds. "Not hurt?" The mother starts. "We did not plan on anything but a young son! Preparing a grown girls room would be a waste of money and time! She looks like she'll not even last a year with us!!" She yells at her husband while pointing at me.
While I can't imagine living happily with her, I can imagine an even worse time without Jacob. "Please! I know it'll be for a short time and a lot of spent money but I promise I'll make it worth while!" I plead to her. "How? How can you make it worth our while?" She asks obvioysly expecting no answer from me.
"Jacob and I are close! And you two look like your very busy, so I'm guessing you'd probably have to pay often for baby-sitters! But if you take me in, you wont! I can baby sit Jacob whenever! And I myself am low maintence! I'd just need to ask for lady essentials but almost nothing more! Please... Please allow me to stay with Jacob!" I look at them in desparation.
"Well, we do spend a lot of time working... And if you say your low maintence... Hm.. I still don't know..." The mother squints deep in thought. "Come on, dear. She loves Jacob just as mych as we will and cares about him just as much as we do. It would be heartless to separate them." The father looks at his wife lovingly. "Yeah! Please don't separate us!!" Jacob barges into the room out of nowhere. "Jacob? What- were you eaves-dropping?" I ask ruffling his hair. "Hehe, yeah I was!" He looks at the mother. "I love Maya too, please take her with us!!" He tugs on the mothers skirt.
"Sigh, alright. We'll take her too." She says to Ms. Eleanor. I jump for joy. Excitement fills my every inch. I'm gonna be adopted! And more importantly, I'm gonna live with Jacob a while longer!! Nothing could ruin this.
