Shadow Born

The city of Ebon City never truly slept. Its streets glowed with neon lights. Sirens echoed through the night. Criminal empires ruled entire neighborhoods while politicians pretended nothing was wrong. Seventeen-year-old Kairo lived in the forgotten district called Ash Block, where abandoned buildings stood like broken giants. He worked after school repairing electronics just to help his grandmother pay rent. He dreamed of becoming someone important. Dreams, however, did not pay bills. One rainy evening, while searching an old scrapyard for machine parts, Kairo noticed something impossible. A blue fireball tore across the clouds. It didn't burn. It didn't explode. It landed. The ground shook as if the earth had been punched. Ignoring every instinct telling him to run, Kairo climbed over broken cars toward the impact site. At the center of a smoking crater floated a black crystal. It wasn't resting on the ground. It hovered silently. Blue lightning wrapped around it like living snakes. When Kairo reached out, the crystal moved first. It flew into his chest. Pain exploded through every nerve. His scream disappeared beneath the thunder. Dark energy surrounded him. His heartbeat stopped. Then started again. Stronger. Faster. His eyes opened. Everything had changed. He could hear conversations blocks away. He could see electricity flowing through power lines. He could feel people's emotions like invisible waves. Before he understood what was happening, three armed thieves entered the scrapyard after stealing money from a nearby bank. "There he is!" one shouted. Thinking they were chasing someone else, Kairo stepped aside. The bullets came anyway. Instinct took over. Time slowed. The bullets froze in the air. Not completely. Only for him. Kairo reached out in panic. Every bullet turned into black dust. The thieves stared in horror. "So... what are you?" one whispered. Kairo didn't know. Neither did the crystal inside him. Far above Earth... On a silent moon hidden beyond human telescopes... An ancient machine awakened after ten thousand years. One red eye opened. "Host detected." "Power Core recovered." "The Shadow Guardian has returned." Across the galaxy... Something smiled. And began its journey to Earth.
