CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT Remi tensed as they came up to a niche in the right-hand wall packed with bones. Long bones—those from the arms and legs—were stacked in orderly piles with the ribs and smaller bones for the fingers, toes, and spine packed in as filling. Atop this sat tidy rows of skulls. They were all packed so tightly as to make almost a solid wall of bone. Daniel gave her a horrified look. Perhaps he had never been into any catacombs before. She had—in Paris, in Rome, in several other European cities—but this sort of place always gave her the shivers. They passed the wall of bones, only to come across another less than a minute later.
