Gun

2015 Words
“Stop crying Camille.”   That must be the tenth time he had told me that while we were still in the water. I don’t know how he can even tell that I’m crying when beads of sea water trickle down my head.   “I….” I hiccupped. “I can’t….” I exclaimed as more tears threatened to fall.   I don’t know what I want anymore. I don’t think I’m even thinking at all anymore. Sometimes I want to get away, and then sometimes I want to say. Sometimes I want to live and then sometimes my breath just stops, and I wouldn’t even budge.   I would kill to get the answers for my unlimited questions. I’d pay so I won’t feel this way anymore. I’d trade anything for this pain to go away.   “We need to go back to the shore,” he said while holding his hands on my waist and traveling up to my shoulders. As I looked at the far view of the shore, I didn’t realize how far I must have swum before running out of strength.   I looked at him again and I saw worry in his eyes but then I was able to quickly turn my head when I thought I saw people on the shore. I squinted my eyes to see better, and he must have noticed what I did so he looked at the shore too.   “f**k!” I heard it was violent cussing.   “Are those…. Are those people on the shore?” I asked weakly. I’m so tired and all I want to do right now is sleep.   I didn’t hear Trevor answer my question and the next thing I knew; we were swimming back to the land.   As we got closer, I realized I was right. There were at least five armed men on the shore with their big guns very visible as they held it with their hands. Instantly, I was awake. Weak but awake and aware of my surroundings.   “Trevor,” I pulled at his arm when we were less than a hundred meters from the shore. “Why are we not swimming away? They have guns,” I exclaimed, worried all over my face.   “We don’t have any other choice. We won’t last even if we swim away from the island Camille. There are no nearby islands,” he explained as we came closer and closer.   When we were on the shore already, two of the men immediately went to me and grabbed both my hands. “Trevor!” I called him, panicking.   “You don’t have to grab her arm,” Trevor exclaimed as he went to me. Two other men were on him, but they didn’t try and grab him like they did to me. I have to refresh my mind and remember that he’s one of them.   “Orders from boss. You two are called to the base,” the bald one with a tattoo dragon on his neck said. He has piercings on his nose and all over his ears. Actually, they all look like goons. I thought that mafia members looking like tattoos with a body are just stereotyping but they’re proving me wrong.   “Ouch! You don’t have to pull me like I’m some animal!” I couldn’t help but shout to the two men who were dragging me like I’m some dead weight. Their grips are like steel. I just know that their hands would leave a red mark on my arms.   “We’ll go with you. You don’t have to grab her,” I heard Trevor calmly said again.   “And what Trevor? Let her run away?” the one who looks like the leader of the five spoke. He has hair but his whole left arm is covered with tattoos. He wasn’t as tall as Trevor but he’s muscular and big. They’re all wearing jeans and black shirts, but he has the aura of someone higher in ranking. And also, the fact that he’s leading us instead of grabbing me and Trevor so I figured he might be the boss.   “She won’t run away,” Trevor answered. I looked at him and I immediately wanted to go to him. He doesn’t have any expression on his face, but his eyes feel different. I just knew that he’s already mad. “Says who, Trevor? Didn’t she run away from you twice already?” I heard the boss with his mocking voice. I know I’m probably nothing to them and that they can kill me instantly here, but I just really want to kick his balls before I go.   “Heard a lot about you being the best assassin and all but a girl gets past you twice? What? You became a p***y?” He added as he chuckled with the other four. They looked like they were having fun as Trevor just looked at them.   “He let me run away on purpose and he ran after me! I didn’t get away!” I shouted at them not even sure if what I’m saying is right. I just figured that Trevor might have followed me every time I run away because he always finds me and I’m not able to get away that easily.   The men stopped laughing but the humor in their eyes is still annoying. Their leader went near me, and he held my cheeks with his hand.   “Don’t talk, you slut!” he shouted at me as he pinched my cheeks so hard, I felt like my teeth were going to come off.   “Stop that or I’ll show you how good of an assassin I am.”   His voice instantly gave me goosebumps and the man holding my chin let go of me. Even without looking in a mirror, I knew my chin is red right now because of the pain I’m feeling. When I looked at Trevor, I saw burning rage in his eyes and I knew I’m right.   “Let go of her,” he exclaimed with his voice so cold that I think I forgot that we’re under the burning sun.   I sighed deeply when the two men holding me let go of my arm. I massaged my chin as I stare at Trevor who has his fist clenched and his jaw locked.   “Why did you f*****g let go of her?!” the leader of the gang shouted at the two and they immediately grabbed me again.   “Let go of her Morris,” Trevor exclaimed again. “You’re not the boss of me Trevor,” Morris answered, chuckling nervously. Well, I'm sure he’s nervous because Trevor looked scary right now. He looked like someone you don’t want to mess with. He’s clenching his jaw and his fist is red like he’s ready to punch anyone right now.   “You’ll let her go if you want to live.”   “You don’t scare me, Trevor.”   “I’m not trying to scare you. I’m giving you a favor by giving you a choice. If you want to live, let her go.”   Morris laughed like anything is funny with our situation right now. But I know he felt how mad Trevor is. I know he does. A tree would feel how angry and how much energy is coming out from Trevor right now.   “Go f**k yourself--”   I didn’t know how it happened but all I heard was grunts and punches. The next thing I saw was the two men near Trevor were down on the sand while Trevor and Morris’ gun were pointed at each other. The two men near me are clutching both their eyes like they were hurt by something.   I looked at Trevor, but he wasn’t looking at me. His eyes are red, and he looks like he’s ready to kill anyone who’s on his way.   “Let go of that gun Trevor,” Morris looked tough, but I can see how he’s trembling and how his eyes are unfocused. Even when Trever has only told me stories, the reaction of men around us already tells me how dangerous he is. Morris knows that Trevor can kill him in a split second.   And I must be really mad and crazy because I don’t even fear him. I don’t fear Morris because I know Trevor can protect me and I don’t fear Trevor because I know he’ll never hurt me. Trevor will never hurt me. The realizations that are hitting me in this kind of situation are making me dizzy.   “You know that I’m faster than you Morris. Let the gun go so you can see the light of another day,” Trevor exclaimed sarcastically. He looked pissed now and I don’t even know how I know! And how the f**k am I not screaming right now? Am I too stunned to even shout? “f**k!” I heard Morris cursed as he held his gun and pointed it in the sky. “Okay, okay! f**k you, Trevor!” he shouted as he let go of the gun. “You motherfuckers better stand up!” he shouted as he kicked some of the men who were still curling like a ball on the sand.   “Are you okay?” I almost jumped when I heard Trevor whisper to my ear. He was beside me all of a sudden. I was too distracted to even notice.   “Yeah…. I think I’m okay,” I exclaimed as I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. I wasn’t sure how I’m still standing right now. I’m not sure why I still haven’t fainted. I don’t know how I’m still breathing!   “You’re trembling,” he said as he held both my hands, which I didn’t notice was really trembling.   “I’m sorry.”   “Why are you saying sorry?” he asked, and I didn’t even know what to say. I didn’t know why I said sorry.   “I don’t know,” I exclaimed.   “Breathe Camille,” he exclaimed again, and I just noticed that I wasn’t breathing anymore so I breathed in and let my fears wash away on the waves as we stood on the shore.   “Okay,” I answered as I regulated my breathing. That was such a rush! I looked at him again and he was staring at me. But then I noticed something.   “Where’s the gun?” I asked, referring to the gun he was holding earlier.   “I dropped it,” he answered, which left my mouth open.   “Why?!” I almost shouted at him. “They might point a gun at you again!” I exclaimed, worried. I saw how mad Morris is and he hurt the other four a lot that they’re still limping and crutching their chest. Of course, they’d be mad as well. And he just dropped our only protection?   “They won’t,” he answered so confidently that there’s no way in hell he’s lying.   So, I did.
