Chapter 5: Iris POV

Everywhere was pitch black and I was beginning to get scared but tried very hard to get my eyes open. Regaining consciousness, I saw that I was in a place I had never been before and I got scared so I jumped out of my bed and saw a doctor there. I took that small knife they use to operate on people.

“Who are you and what do you want from me? Where am I?” I asked with the knife in my hand pointing at the doctor.

“calm down okay? You are in the Dark Moon Pack. Your friend brought you here after you guys were attacked by some other wolves and you were badly bruised so we fixed you up please put the scalpel down.” he said cautiously.

So that’s what they call this tiny knife. Anyway, I wasn’t buying anything he was saying.

“If my friend brought me here, where is she? You’re lying. What do you want from me?” I said screaming while throwing some stuff at him.

Suddenly, my friend and a guy ran into the room looking shocked by what was happening. I dropped the scalpel and ran to my friend crying.

“Ashina you’re here. I thought they did something to you, I didn’t see you and he said you brought us here and I thought he was lying so I tried defending myself then…”I started explaining voice shaking and tears pouring down my face.

“It’s okay baby, it’s okay. I’m sorry for leaving you here alone. I just went to eat, I was hungry. Just calm down okay, we are safe.” She said rubbing my back in a soothing way which calms me down.

“Anyways I want you to meet someone okay, don’t freak out because I was just as surprised as you’ll be once I tell you,” she said nervously

“come on, spit it out. You’re not dying for sure so what could be so bad that you can not say it?” I said looking at her with concern

“Okay Okay, This man right here is the Alpha king and we are in his territory and he’s your mate,” she said carefully as she pointed to the man who came in with her

I was so shocked but then I realized she might be playing a prank on me so I started laughing until tears were coming out of my eyes then I realized that no one was laughing with me and Ashina looked serious which meant she was not lying.

Suddenly everything started rushing back to me; how we fought the wolves, how Ashina carried me all the way here, how the Alpha King came out from inside the crowd and called me mate, and lastly, how I fainted right in front of everyone.

“You’re not joking, are you?” I asked Ashina looking frightened as hell.

“No love, I’m not. I understand how you must feel. As I said before, I was also shocked when he called you mate” She said trying to come close to me to calm me down.

“No, that is not possible. My mate rejected me as my best friend and banished me from the pack for good. You know this” I said in a high voice. Am I going crazy or maybe this is all just a crazy dream?

“Wait….your mate rejected you as how? I don’t understand, I’m your mate” The alpha said looking confused

“Alpha I think that was her first mate. She was rejected without any good reason and so the moon goddess might have decided to give her a happy ending like everyone else and give you to her to be her second chance mate.”

“It’s written in the ancient books at the library. The second chance mates were given to werewolves who were wrongly judged, rejected or their mate died before they could ever meet them” The doctor said

“So let me get this straight, the moon goddess decided to comfort me by giving me a second chance mate? This is so unbelievable, I have never even heard of the second chance mate and my dad told me everything I needed to know about our culture. I need to sit down.” I said feeling even more confused than I was before. I sat down and my tummy growled making the alpha chuckle.

“Seems you are hungry. They made spaghetti, would you like that?” he asked me with a small smile

“yes please, thank you,” I said as he walked out to go and get it.

Then the doctor left saying he had another patient to attend to. As soon as he was outside the room, Ashina ran to my side and asked me a question I didn’t think she would ever ask

“Iris, the doctor saw bruises all over your body. What happened to you in your pack?” she asked looking genuinely concerned.

“I don’t want to talk about it. Nothing happened, I was just really clumsy,” I said turning my face away from her direction.

“Hey, look at me and tell me the truth else I’m leaving here and never coming back,” she said getting upset

“Okay, I’ll talk. Just please don’t leave me here,” I said pleading.

“I won’t now talk”

“After my parent's death, I was demoted to being an omega and blamed every day for my parent's death. I slowly accepted what they said. Soon the small slaps started then punches then a full-out beatings. They began starving me and I just had to get used to it until on my bday yesterday when I found out the alpha is my mate and he rejected me and threw me out and chose my best friend over me.” I said sadly

“Wtf, how dare they hurt you like that and blame you for your parent's death? Those bastards,” she said getting very angry.

“Forget about that, I'm over it but please, please, and please promise me never to tell the alpha king about this” I begged

“Don’t tell me what?”
