Chapter 6

I didn't know how long it had been. I was lost in a struggle within my dream when a familiar voice suddenly cut through the haze. "Victoria, just let this go. I believe Mr. Sinclair didn't mean to say that about me. It's probably because I'm just not good enough to catch his eye." Victoria was frustrated. "James, stop that nonsense! If you let him off the hook this time, he'll only get worse next time. You don't want to be bullied again, do you?" James fell silent. Their argument jolted me awake, and I found Victoria and James standing at the head of my bed. When Victoria saw I was awake, the warmth in her eyes quickly turned to disgust. She said coldly, "Now that you're awake, stop playing naive and apologize to James." I opened my mouth, my voice hoarse but resolute. "No way. I will never admit to something I didn't do." Victoria's anger flared as she looked at me coldly. "You're still being stubborn? James is kind. He'll let it go if you apologize. If it were up to me, I would expose your crimes for everyone to see. Harvey, don't push your luck." Sadness washed over me, and I replied indifferently, "Go ahead. It's best if you hurry and expose me." A hint of panic flashed in James's eyes as he grabbed Victoria's arm, but her next words cut him off. "Harvey, how did you end up like this? After being a president for a few years, you've forgotten the days when you were almost stripped bare." She leaned in closer, "If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have saved you. You've become one of those people." Although I had already lost hope for her, hearing her say this still pierced me. She knew it was a pain I would never forget, yet she used it to humiliate me for James. 'Victoria, you once promised to protect me; you broke that promise.' I slowly calmed my emotions, lifted my head, and looked at her defiantly. "Whatever. I won't apologize." But then Victoria suddenly laughed, confidently threatening me. "What about the Sinclair Group? If you don't back down, I'll make the Sinclair Group go bankrupt." I found it amusing. "But I remember, the Sinclair family is still more powerful than your family, right? Victoria, you've resorted to tricks like this for him." Unexpectedly, Flavia burst into the room, pledging her loyalty. "Harvey, the control of the Sinclair Group is now in my hands. If you don't want our parents' hard work to go to waste, you'd better bow and apologize quickly." Worried I wouldn't believe her, she even handed me the news about the board member changes. Flavia's name stood out prominently. When I was hospitalized, they had already joined forces and secretly pushed me out of the game. But compared to that, the coldness and disappointment I felt were even more piercing. I had spoiled Flavia, making her mistakenly believe that keeping the company was easy. Anger surged within me, my heart pounding, and I shouted at her, "Flavia, are you crazy? Do you know what you're saying? That's our parents' hard work!" But Flavia brushed it off, saying, "It's just a company. If James likes it, what does it matter?" "Do you really like him that much?" "Of course." Seeing the pride on James's face made my heart sink. It was true—he effortlessly captured all of Flavia's affection. I felt utterly defeated. I couldn't risk even the slightest chance of losing the Sinclair Group. My parents treated me so well after all. 'An apology? Fine, I'll do it!' I struggled to get out of bed, dragging my legs along the ground as I inched toward James. With determination, I closed my eyes and bent down. My voice echoed in the empty room. "James, I'm sorry. Please forgive me." James came over to help me, pretending to be concerned. "Mr. Sinclair, I'm not mad at you at all. It's just that Victoria thinks I've been bullied, so you should get up." He feigned support but stumbled, accidentally kicking my stomach. The freshly stitched wound split open, and the familiar pain made me curl up involuntarily. A stream of yellow liquid pooled on the floor, and at that moment, my dignity shattered. James quickly stepped back, his disgust evident. "Oh no, is that urine?" I was mortified and frantically tried to cover up the evidence with my hands. Victoria and Flavia looked at my disheveled state, their brows furrowed with disdain. They tried to help me, but I managed to dodge their attempts. Feeling slighted, Victoria wore a gloomy expression as she said, "Harvey, you look tough enough. It shouldn't be anything serious. James, let's not bother with him. Let's go." James added softly, "Mr. Sinclair, please don't be angry. I forgive you." Then, he was pulled away by Victoria. Flavia hesitated for a moment but ultimately turned around and joined them. I was left alone to deal with the mess surrounding me. Watching their retreating figures, I lost count of how many times this had happened. In a short span, I had lost both my wife and my sister, leaving me feeling like a useless person. I swallowed my bitterness and closed my eyes, thinking, 'This is what I owe you all. I have paid my debt.' I just hoped we would never meet again in our lives. But I never expected their revenge on me was far from over. Two weeks later, I completed my discharge procedures. However, as I reached the hospital entrance, I was forcibly taken away. When I woke up again, I found myself in an abandoned factory. The leader, looking fierce, approached me as my eyes opened and slapped me hard, gripping my hair with a sinister grin. "Damn it, you were hard to find, hiding in the hospital." My tongue felt sliced, and my mouth filled with blood. I endured the pain and asked, "Who are you? I have no grievances with you; why are you kidnapping me?"
